Introduction Welcome to NFL Blitz! The classic arcade style football game originally for Nintendo 64 returns in this faithful remake by EA for XBLA. Fans of the original will feel right at home with the hard hitting gameplay (without the late hits, sadly). Along with a traditional Play Now mode, this game includes Blitz Gauntlet (12 game ladder with boss battles), Blitz Battles (online head-to-head or team play), and Elite League (think Madden Ultimate Team-lite). You can also purchase unlockables from the Blitz Store with Blitz Bucks (which I will abbreviate as BB from now on). This game requires a lot of your time to get the full 200, due mainly to the Monster Squad achievement. Thankfully, the online achievements can be boosted easily, but are still time consuming.
Step 1: Blitz Gauntlet (Offline) Blitz Gauntlet is a ladder style playthrough featuring 12 games, three of which are boss battles. In this step, you will be working toward the Monster Squad achievement, and getting most, if not all, offline achievements along the way.
Monster Squad requires that you unlock all 12 fantasy characters, which you unlock by defeating them in Blitz Gauntlet boss battles. You only unlock three bosses per Gauntlet, meaning that you need to play through four Gauntlets (or 48 games) to unlock all 12. Each game takes about 20 minutes, meaning that this will take roughly 16 hours plus loading screens. Thankfully you will never face the same boss twice and each Gauntlet can be played on easy difficulty with whatever cheats activated that you want. Boss Battles will also present an opportunity to activate two power ups per boss. There are a total of eight, and activating all of them will unlock I’m a Wizard!
Along the way, you should also easily unlock En Fuego, Double Down, Squibittydoo!, Goin’ Beast Mode, Fast Fingers, and Safety Dance. You may also unlock BRAAAAINSSSSSS! and I Know Kung Fu, but it may be easier to wait to boost these online or in Play Now matches. Once you have Monster Squad and most, if not all, offline achievements, it is time to move on to the online achievements.
Step 2: Blitz Battles & Elite League (Online) At this point you should be ready to head online and get the rest of the achievements. While working towards the Head-to-Head and Blitz Team achievements, you will be earning Blitz Bucks which you will use to purchase Elite Team card packs, and eventually Pro Players, Ultimate Players, and Ultimate Power Ups.
I personally started with the Head-to-Head Blitz Battles achievements ( Local Celebrity, Tristate Triumph, and Nation Domination). You need to progress through the State, Region, and National battle boards. Each of these has 4 boards: Rookie, Pro, Veteran, and Elite. These are easily boosted because before you start a game, you can see who you are paired up with. If you are not matched with your boosting partner, simply back out and try again. Winning games legit or via forfeit earn you 4000-6000 rank points. You need approx. 130000 rank points to get these three achievements.
Next, start up a Blitz Team with a friend, find another team to boost with, and repeat the process listed above. This should unlock Big Fish, Small Pond, Movin’ On Up, and Hail to the King, Baby!
You should be accumulating BB while playing these games (5000-6000 per full game win, 3000-4000 per full game loss, <1000 per forfeit win). Buy Elite League packs but don't turn in completed team sets right away. When you complete a team and not turn it in, you no longer get those players in packs. This increases the odds of getting power ups in packs. You need to turn in eight sets of all eight power ups. Do not turn in any teams until turning in all eight sets of power ups.
Step 3: Elite League Clean Up You should have more than enough BB at this point to complete every team collection and all 8 sets of 8 power ups. First, make sure all 32 teams are complete but NOT turned in. Turn in a set of power ups, which will unlock an Ultimate Power Up for purchase for 5000BB. Then purchase a 12 card pack, which will give you all eight power ups again. Turn in that set, and repeat the process 6 more times to unlock the rest of Ultimate Power Ups. Once you have unlocked them, start turning in your team collections. Each team or set of power ups you turn in nets you a bonus 3000BB. Purchase all Ultimate Power Ups for a total of 40000BB to unlock Buy the Power of Grayskull.
Each team you turn in unlocks 1 of the 32 Pro Players, which you can purchase for 2000BB each. Completing a full conference or division worth of teams will also unlock 1 of 12 Ultimate Players, which you can purchase for 10000BB each. You will need a total of 184000BB to purchase all Pro & Ultimate Players and unlock Winners Can Be Choosers and Stack the Deck. When you buy a Pro Player make sure to put him in your lineup, because you cannot turn in a team collection if any of the players are in your lineup. You are going to need a lot of BB, so keep playing online until you have enough to purchase everything.
To earn the Yoink! achievement, go to Elite League and start up a Risk and Reward game after you have purchased at least 1 pack of cards. Trading wins with your boosting partner (forfeits don't count) will net you both the achievement.
Step 4: Clean Up At this point you should have every achievement except possibly BRAAAAINSSSSSS! and I Know Kung Fu. These can be tricky against AI opponents, but are very easily boosted with a friend locally or online. Consult the guide for specific techniques on how to get these.
Conclusion At this point, you should have the full 200. This definitely takes more time to finish than the average arcade game, but thankfully the game is not overly difficult and is easily boostable. With dedication, you should have no problem earning every achievement. Good luck, and please consult the guide below for specific achievement techniques.

You can use the exact same boosting method as the Head-to-Head achievements to earn the Team achievements (refer to Nation Domination for specific details). Please note that you can form a team locally with a guest, which means you only need one other person to boost this with, provided you both have two controllers. You and your boosting partner just need to both form separate teams with a guest account as your teammate. You need approximately 130000 rank points to get these three achievements, which means it will take 20-30 wins to earn this.
You need to progress through the State, Region, and National battle boards (for example, Minnesota, then Midwest, then National). Each of these has 4 boards: Rookie, Pro, Veteran, and Elite.
These achievements are easily boosted because before you start a game, you can see who you are paired up with. If you are not matched with your boosting partner, simply back out and try again. Winning games legit or via forfeit earn you 4000-6000 rank points. You need approximately 130000 rank points to get these 3 achievements, which means it will take 20-30 wins to earn this.
Please note that, while doing this via forfeits may be quicker, there are advantages to playing full games. The first is that playing full games gives you the option to rematch, eliminating the need to keep trying to find your partner. The second is that forfeits earn you very few Blitz Bucks (<1000), and considering how you need around 200000 to buy everything, you might as well play full games and earn 5000-6000 each.
You need to accumulate Blitz Bucks by playing Blitz Battles and purchase card packs in Elite League. These packs contain player cards or, occasionally, regular power up cards. Each team set contains 12 player cards. Once you complete a team set, don't turn it in because you will not receive cards of completed teams in packs. Once you have 12/12 cards in each pack and have unlocked all 8 Ultimate Power Ups (see Buy the Power of Grayskull), start turning in your team sets. Each team you turn in gives you 3000 Blitz Bucks and unlocks a Pro Player. Go to the Blitz Store and purchase the Pro Players for 2000 Blitz Bucks each (or 64000 total).
Please note that you cannot turn in a team if any of the players are in your lineup. To get around this, put the purchased Pro Players in your lineup, and/or buy some more packs after turning in some teams and put those players in your lineup.
Refer to Winners Can Be Choosers. The difference is that after you turn in an entire conference or division’s worth of teams, you also unlock an Ultimate Player. There are a total of 12 Ultimate Players, which can be purchased in the Blitz Store for 10000 Blitz Bucks each. You will need 120000 total Blitz Bucks to buy them all, so keep playing Blitz Battles until you’ve earned enough.
You need to accumulate Blitz Bucks by playing Blitz Battles and purchase card packs in Elite League. These packs contain player cards or, occasionally, regular power up cards. There are eight regular power up cards, and turning in a set of all eight will unlock one Ultimate Power Up. Therefore, you need to turn in eight sets of all eight regular power ups to unlock all eight Ultimate Power Ups.
When you complete a team set, don't turn it in. Once you complete a team, you will stop getting those players in packs. Once you complete every team, you will only get power ups in packs. Once you reach this point, keep buying 12 card packs until you have turned in all eight sets of regular power ups and have unlocked all eight Ultimate Power Ups.
Once all of the Ultimate Power Ups are unlocked, start turning in team collections. Each team you turn in nets you 3000 Blitz Bucks. Once you have enough, go to the Blitz Store and purchase all eight Ultimate Power Ups for 5000 Blitz Bucks each (40000 total).
Risk and Reward is a game mode in Elite League in which two teams play for the opportunity to steal a card from their opponent. You need to have purchased at least one card pack in Elite League to do this, so you have cards to bet with. This game mode is accessed by going to Elite League, Play Now, Risk and Reward.
This is very easily boosted with a friend, because you can see the team name of your opponent before deciding to start the game. Once you and your friend are matched up, you must start and win a full game (forfeits don't count). After the game, select the card you wish to steal, and the achievement is yours.
This will likely be one of the last offline achievements you will earn. To earn this achievement, you will need to unlock all 12 fantasy characters. You can unlock them by defeating them in boss battles in Blitz Gauntlet.
Each Blitz Gauntlet consists of 12 games, 3 of which are boss battles. Therefore, to unlock all 12 characters, you will need to complete the Blitz Gauntlet 4 times for a total of 48 games. Thankfully, each Gauntlet can be played on easy difficulty, and you do not have to worry about facing the same boss more than once.
Each game takes about 20 minutes, so it will take about 16 hours to complete this achievement. It would be smart to go for the rest of the offline achievements while going through the Gauntlets.
Three consecutive completed passes to the same player
Sack the opposing quarterback two times in a row
When boosting with a friend, either one of these methods is very easy to boost. To obtain this by yourself, use the first method of catching fire listed above.
Start a 'Play Now' or 'Blitz Gauntlet' game on easy difficulty (I did it in Blitz Gauntlet). When on offense, you will be using the play Da Bomb.
Typically, when using Da Bomb on easy difficulty, the running back (the leftmost eligible receiver running the shortest route) will be open at some point. It doesn't matter how many yards you gain, just force the ball to him and complete three passes, which will cause the running back to catch on fire. However, if the player catches the ball behind the line of scrimmage, it will not count toward the three catches he needs to make, even if you still gain positive yardage.
Once the running back is on fire, let the quarterback get sacked (preferably for as few yards as possible so you can make more progress towards the achievement on the same drive). This will eliminate your team/player's fire.
Once your fire is gone, repeat the above steps two more times during the same game, and the achievement should be yours. This is very easy to accomplish and should take very little time.
This is a very simple achievement, and probably one of the first you will get. To earn this, select a play on offense where a receiver stays behind the line of scrimmage (for example, “Criss Cross”). Pass the ball to this player. Once he has the ball, pass it to another receiver and score a touchdown. This is easiest done when you are close to the end zone.
It has been suggested that the achievement will not unlock unless the first player you throw to is not only behind the line of scrimmage, but also behind the quarterback. Do this to be safe, as it is not difficult to accomplish.
An onside kick can be attempted after scoring a touchdown. When in the play selection screen, place the cursor over any play, as it can be attempted after an extra point or a two point conversion. Then, hold down and . While holding these buttons, press to select the play, and the onside kick will be attempted after the extra point or two point conversion.
Recovering the onside kick is a bit luck based, but it helps to press to dive after the ball. Eventually, you will recover one.
To unlock this achievement, you need to have unlocked the Zombie fantasy character. This achievement is easiest if boosted with a friend locally or online. Start up a game with a friend, and enter one of the following codes:
NFL Logo, Whistle, NFL Logo (Zombie character)
Goal Post, #1 Foam Finger, Goal Post (Zombie team)
Let your friend gain fire using one of the methods listed in the En Fuego guide. Have him throw to the receiver on fire, and tackle him from behind while holding turbo. This doesn’t always trigger the necessary animation, but it eventually will.
I would suggest running goal line defense when your friend is on offense, so the on fire receiver is wide open. Then, it is just a matter of running up from behind and tackling him.
This one can be a bit tricky if you are going out of your way to do it, but you will probably get it on accident at some point. You will need to utilize spin moves (double tap or , or press ), jukes ( or ), and/or stiff arms ( or + ) when a defender tries to tackle you.
I personally earned this by doing one spin move into a group of defenders on a kick return. Returns are a good opportunity to do this, as there are many defenders coming at you. With practice (or just luck), you will eventually get this.
Enter 10 unique cheats in one Play Now or Blitz Gauntlet game by one user (Lead profile only)
Be sure to do this achievement offline, so you do not have to purchase any of the necessary cheats to earn this. Before you start a game, you have an opportunity to enter cheat codes in the loading screen.
While the game tells you to press , , and a certain number of times each to enter a code, I found out that you can instead press , , and . I think this is better, because it allows you to naturally keep your fingers on all three buttons at the same time. Once you type a cheat, enter it by pressing or moving in any direction.
These are then ten easiest cheats to enter. I have listed them below by the number of times you need to press each button. The format is presses- presses- presses (or --):
You are presented the opportunity to step on and activate power ups during boss battles in Blitz Gauntlet. You get two unique power ups per game, and there are a total of eight. This is a cumulative achievement; each power up saves to your profile as soon as it is activated. Therefore, as soon as you get the two power ups, quit the game and restart it. When you restart it you will get two different power ups. Repeat this process until all eght have been activated. The achievement will unlock as soon as your last power up has been activated.
To unlock this achievement, you need to have unlocked the Ninja fantasy character. This achievement is easiest if boosted with a friend locally or online. Start up a game with a friend, and enter one of the following codes:
When you are carrying the ball as the ninja, you need to jump at a defender with or , and then press to jump kick. This doesn’t always trigger the correct animation, so boosting with a friend will give you more opportunities. I personally found this easiest to accomplish on a kick return.
