NIER Achievements

Combo Master

Pull off a 100-hit combo.
These achievements should be fairly easy to pull off. If you need help, here are a few places you can get them. Getting hit stops your combo, so don't get too greedy and dodge accordingly.

1. When you reach the part in the story where you go underneath the mansion, there is a room with a massive amount of shades, at the beginning of Underground Facility: B2. Equip your weakest 1 handed sword and go at it, dodging when needed. If you get hit, die and try again.

2. On your second or third playthrough on your way to the Shadowlord, you should be able to kill the 'reviving pig' in 20 hits or so. Spam your sword and you should be able to kill him while he is reviving, before he hits you. Your weapon attacks faster the higher combo you have, so once you get the first 20-30 hits locked, you should be set.

First battle and it is easy to get, roll between enemies to keep the combo alive, do not use the magic in the fight and you will hit 100 with no problems!

Alternatively, shortly after freeing Kainé , you receive a side quest to investigate a shade in the study of the mansion/manor house. The shades Shield can take a whoopin' so as soon as you enter hammer him into the corner and keep pounding on him, or if your too strong switch to a weaker weapon.

i got this achievement here , was shy of level 20 i think and had the phoenix dagger equipped.

I found I got both combo achievements easily in the very first battle, in the prelude.

An easy but annoying way due to the camera is when you meet Grimoire Weiss, weak shades keep spawning by groups of 3 when he offers a deal, keep killing'em (2 hits and roll if they are far). Annoying, but really doable...

In the first battle, after the little guys, it's key that you can roll and attack when coming out of the roll. Was having a hard time until I understood that, and then ended up with 159.

In the first temple, mash Y to Shoulder Bash, it does no damage and you can trap an enemy in the corner to spam the counter.

Another way is in the last boss battle of Part one, the second part of the battle. The boss will stay stationary with two attacks, a slam with one hand that does shockwaves on the ramparts, and a bullet-wave magic attack towards same hand. Wail on the other hand as it stays in place. Bash the shield shades and attack them to kill them (more combo) when they climb up, and try to perfect your timing jumping over the shockwave. The head is the final target, so you can keep attacking the hand.
