Crow's Nest10
Discover 10 pirate nests

Every so often you will encountered a pirate convoy while on the nautical map, either by sailing past it while it is in range or by having one directly attack one of your ships. When this happens you need to follow it (keep it in range) as it moves along the map. Eventually it will reach a point on the coast and disappear and a pirate nest will be revealed on your map. It is also a good idea to check a town’s palace as any pirate sightings made by other ships will be noted with a rough area of where it appeared. The sightings will include a town or area where the sighting was made. From there all you need to do is sail around the area until you locate the ship, then follow it as mentioned above.

You can also learn the location of pirate nests from the occasional person in a town’s tavern, but this will cost you a sum of gold that is scaled based on your overall rank. Also, if you are married, your spouse will occasionally inform you of a sighting similar to the stranger in the tavern but without the gold fee.

TIP: If you encounter a stranger in a tavern offering you gold in exchange for information on a pirate, save your game, pay the fee and learn the location, then reload to save the gold. The pirate nest will still be there. Also be aware that the tips are very vague and usually consist of “last seen off the coast of X,” so you may need to expand your search if you don’t find them in the immediate area.

NOTE: Although the achievement requires 10, some people have reported the achievement unlocking before or after 10 nests discovered, so if it doesn’t unlock, keep on the look out for more. There is no shortage of pirate nests as you progress through the game.

there`re no pirates at the beginning of an new game.wait a couple of years (in game) and start searching for pirates by boat.you`ll find some pirate ships somwhere, just follow them.it`s a little bit time consuming

I've discovered more than 20 nests over all and more than 10 in the same game yet this achievement won't register. Very frustrating as it's the last one I need.

You only get this achievement for discovering the pirates nests yourself, when you see a pirate convoy follow it and it will eventually lead you back to its hideout and afterdoing this (10) times it should unlock, mine only unlocked after around 15 though

I'm not sure what you mean by discovering them yourself. Basically I get the info from a tavern, go to the spot indicated and wait until a pirate goes in or out and the nest gets discovered. I just started a new game on a new save and discovered 11 more and it still won't register.

Thanks for the ideas, this finally popped for me. I'm suspecting this may be bugged in the new patch as I finally ended up playing without the patch on and got it within finding a few more nests. The patch does add a nice feature in that after talking to an informer about a pirates nest there will be a bouy placed at the exact location so you don't have to hunt around for it.

Both DLC installed: Countless pirate nests discovered personally(following a ship), no achievement.

Cleared cache, No DLC: Up to 15 and nothing.

Great bugged ass achievement.

I discovered more then 10 with patch on so i cleared system cache and declined update. After that basically what I did was built up a decent economy with 3 convoys and established raw material buildings in 5 towns while I waited for pirate sightings. Then as I discovered them, some automatically, I fast forwarded time so they would get stronger, the best way to tell who is strongest is who has the most money reward offered. Then I would wait by the hideout until a ship left then attack and destroy the hideout, then immediately search the area the ship was heading, it has a new flag, follow it to discover new hideout (make sure your convoy is strong so that the ship you are following doesn't attack you for the loot you just got from their old hideout), buy ships, (for more sailor capacity)

stock sailors and weapons while passing time for pirates to gain strength, rinse and repeat. I only attacked 1 hideout when 5 where active and discovered though. I got the achievement at 5 nests discovered, 8 destroyed-13 total. Last flag of last pirate was red, i dont know if that is relevant or not, before that I never say a red flag

I didn't get mine until I had discovered 18 and the destroying the hideout when I got 14. You don't need them all at once, I only had 6 on my map when I unlocked it.
