Kill 53,596 Hammer-ons and Pull-offs.
You will need to play on guitar for this as bass hammers do not count toward the total, and HOPOs do not show up on Easy. A few Medium songs have them and many Hard songs have some but by far the most appear on Expert. Also, you actually have to hammer the note, it doesn’t count if you strum. You will probably make a lot of progress toward this while going for other achievements, but not as much as you might think. Playing through the Endless Setlist on Expert won’t gain you much more than 10,000 HOPOs, but if you play enough you will unlock this naturally. If you want to speed things up, throw some HOPO heavy songs into your regular rotation. Songs like Less Talk, More Rokk by Freezepop (DLC), Ramblin’ Man, Alabama Getway (RB2), and Everybody Wants to Rule the World work well for this. A list of good songs can be found here. You can always check your progress in Career Goals Guitar > Epic Guitar Goals > HOPO-Cidal Maniac.

I like this... 2 more than DR, 1 more than L4D. We'll get it done quickly too.
I love HOPOs.

I was a bit disappointed when this wasn't continued in Left 4 Dead 2 but I never imagined it showing up in Rock Band. Mad props to Harmonix for such a creative way to incorporate it.

This shouldnt be too hard. already over 1/5 of the way there. Hysteria by Muse will probably get me this achievement because I can get over 500 HOPO's each time I play that on bass.

Try "Elements" by Texas In July (Rock Band Network - 80 MSP)
Almost 1000 HO/PO in Expert each time you pass it.

this also is the same number of zombie kills in Prototype if anyone played that....so its not necessarily following the trend...just tying it...Prototype had it first...

Yeah Elements is a great one. Plus I actually know this band personally so if anyone actually likes the song or any of the other three on DLC, please feel free to check out their myspace and give them some feedback.

Another easy song for it is 'Prequel To The Sequel'

Apparently everyone forgot how to count after Prototype was released:
Dead Rising - October 08, 2006 - Defeat at least 53,594 zombies.
Left 4 Dead - November 20, 2008 - Kill 53,595 Infected.
Prototype - June 09, 2009 - Kill 53,596 infected.
Dead Rising 2 - September 24, 2010 - Kill 53,596 zombies.
Rock Band 3 - October 26, 2010 - Kill 53,596 Hammer-ons and Pull-offs.

so far, the top 3 to keep playing every once in a while is prequel to the sequel, hysteria, and the easiest and most effective is probably less talk more rokk

Could someone explain the full significance of this number? I mean, I understand the path from dead rising, but what inspired people to advance from that number?

Left 4 Dead did to basically say, Hey, we are better than you.

@12, In Dead Rising the population of the town was 53,594 people. So basically they were saying if you get it you killed everyone.

Anybody going for this achievement do yourself a huge favor and purchase "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac. Not only is it a beautiful classic song, but on expert guitar, practically the entire song is HOPOs. If you're good enough you can get around
800 HOPOs every 3 minutes!
I just got the achievement in no time at all going from around 15,000 to 54,000.

you can play green grass and high tides even with no fail on and still count
towards achievement, i get about 1600 each time i play it

@19 & 21 yeah but a lot of players won't be able to hit all those in Green Grass and High Tides. Plus how long is the song? Because "Landslide" is just over 3 minutes and is easy to play. Does someone want to break their fingers playing Green Grass over and over.

I may be wrong, but isn't the numbed related to Dawn of the Dead? Population of the town I think. That's why its always in zombie games, but again, I might be wrong.

If you buy Guitars SUCK, turn on no fail and slide up and down on the solo buttons, you can pretty much churn out 1,000 hammer ons per play. Of course, it's really tiring, but the quickest way.

You forgot DoDonPachi Daioujou BL X! There's an achievement for killing 53596 enemies, and it came out before Prototype (February 19, 2009). Though I guess they shouldn't be held responsible for not knowing about and obscure game from Japan..

Dude I'm nailing more than 1,000 every time I play Less Talk More Rokk and it's not a long song. Every once in awhile I do Freebird just to mix it up a bit, but if you are in a rush to get this achievement..... go with Less Talk More Rokk.

Ok I may have spoken too soon. I didn't realize that Less Talk More Rokk is actually 5:04 long. Sure doesn't feel like it! Now I'm going to try that Fleetwood Mac song you were talking about, Landslide.

Ok I stand corrected. FLEETWOOD MAC's song LANDSLIDE is the way to go people! Holy crap... 99% of the notes are HOPOs and it's slow and easy. WOW!

I just got this, these were the most useful songs I used
I play on expert but am not excellent, found these songs pretty easy to hit 98% or more of the hopos on Expert mode.
Something Bigger/Something Better (expert 600+ hopos)
Everybody Wants to rule the world
Rainbow in the Dark (solo is hard but the riffs clock up easy hopos)
Break on through - the doors
Dig (very easy on expert, lots of hopos)
Freezepop - Less talk more rock (loads of hopos)
Allman Brothers Band - Blue Sky (great song, 3min solo which is mainly hopos, not very difficult either)
I Wish - Stevie Wonder (tricky on expert but lots of hopos)
Tribute - Tenacious D (helps with Dave Grohl achievment to - short song so proportially quite a few hopos)

She's Always a Woman- Billy Joel
Tons of HOPO's. Very easy to play. I would estimate 500 HOPO's. 3 minutes.

While i generally do go for HOPO's i seem to spend alot of time in SP while they appear and they are not always easy to notice in that mode, then if you miss one it screws up. Could take me a while for this one. Am not going to buy a song either for just one achievement.....then again the extra 250 points for this game come from bought songs...so maybe, one day, when the price of songs at least halves from the 160 mark :P lol

The best song that I can find to play for this achievement is
Prequel to the Sequel - Between the Buried and Me
I can hit around 97% which gives you around 750 HOPO's
Fun song to play, so playing it over and over again is not to bad.

Don't bother playing the same songs over and over. Just play the game enough on guitar and you will get it eventually

Chiron - All That Remains
Texas Flood - Stevie Ray Vaughn
These are a couple of good ones. Coupled with Less Talk More Rokk aswell as Green Grass and High Tides.

Landslide is far and above the best way to do this. In 30 minute sessions, I've knocked out 20,000 in 4 days. That's about 5000 every half hour, not too shabby.
