Introduction:
Welcome to Ryse: Son of Rome a swords and sandles epic tale of betrayal, revenge and divine intervention. You step into the greaves of Marius Titus, a young Roman soldier fighting for family and the honor of Rome. Developed by Crytek it's expectedly gorgeous and among the best looking Xbox One launch titles. The Hack 'n' Slash combat is easy to pick up but surprisingly more difficult to master, which you will need to do to some extent to make it through the game on Legendary.
Walkthrough:
Step one - Story:
First thing is first you're going to want to jump into the story mode where you will be picking up the majority of the achievements. A minimum of two playthroughs are required for the completion, your first can be on any difficulty as the difficulty achievements will stack. Completing the game once will unlock Legendary for your second run. Playing through the story once at the Centurion difficulty level will net you 19 achievements for 580:
- To Protect And Serve
- I Have A Story To Tell
- Forever Lost
- I Will Avenge You, Father
- Saving Private Marius
- Who's That Girl
- Trouble In Sherwood Forest
- The Bigger They Are
- Heart Of Darkness
- Inner Demons
- Siege Me If You Can
- From The Dead
- Never Give Up, Never Surrender
- Ave, Caesar
- Not My Type After All
- Settling Old Debts
- Veni, Vidi, Vici
- Empire Of Dirt
- Bad To The Bone
A Second playthrough on Legendary will net you a measly 40 and the achievements:
- I Have A Story To Tell (Legendary)
- I Will Avenge You, Father(Legendary)
- Saving Private Marius (Legendary)
- Trouble In Sherwood Forest (Legendary)
- Heart of Darkness (Legendary)
- Siege Me If You Can (Legendary)
- Ave, Caesar(Legendary)
- Settling Old Debts (Legendary)
**WARNING: Although the achievements themselves don't appear to be glitched, the game seems to have trouble recognizing when you are selecting 'Legendary' difficulty for some people. To be sure you are playing on Legendary as soon as you start Chapter I check to see what your base execution bonus number is, for Legendary it should be '0'.**
During these playthroughs there are also a number of misc. achievements you will want to be working on, along with the collectibles, take a look at the relevant sections of the guide for more information on those.
Step 2 - Multiplayer:
This is where you will be spending the majority of your time if you are going for the full 1000. The achievements aren't too hard to come by and most will come naturally on your way to level 100, which will take a fair amount of time. Check the relevant section of the guide for some multiplayer leveling tips. NOTE: Only 3 of the 12 MP achievements need to be done with another player, the rest can be accomplished in the 'Solo' playlist.
Step 3 - Mop Up:
If you are still missing any of those misc. achievements or collectibles you can just go to 'Timeline' and choose any level to replay on whichever difficulty you want, making mop up a fairly easy endevour.
Mars' Chosen DLC
The DLC introduces a new game mode to the multiplayer: Survival. This mode puts you in the Colleseum and tasks you with surviving for as long as you can against an infinite string of enemies whilst also fighting a bleed effect that increases the longer you surive. The DLC also introduces two new Gladiator skins for you to wear in the arena.
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
Step One -
Play a round of survival on the Courtyard map and survive for seven minutes.
Step Two -
Play a round of survival on the Firestorm map and survive for seven minutes.
Step Three -
Play a round of survival on the Dockyard map and survive for seven minutes.
Step Four -
Reach level 130. Purchase a Tier 6 booster pack, and equip an item from said pack. Now, start one final round of any kind on any map.
Duel of Fates DLC
Introduction:
Welcome to the second piece of DLC for Microsofts' Ryse: Son of Rome. Entitled 'Duels of Fate', the DLC was released on 24th April 2014 at a cost of £8.99/$8.99 with a download size of 8mb.
The DLC introduces a new map to the game; Island. It also includes two new solo maps, Invictus and Barbarous. The DLC also introduces two new Gladiator skins for you to wear in the arena, Glott and Marius.
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
Step One -
Play a round of survival on Island with thirty enviromental executions.
Step Two -
Complete the solo map Invictus.
Step Three -
Complete the solo map Barbarous.
Step Four -
Reach rank 150.
Conclusion:
Another easy piece of DLC for Ryse which shouldn't cause anybody any problems with completing. The only snagging point, will be the amount of time it takes to reach Rank 150. If you are just starting out at Rank 1, you are in for a time consuming grind. If you are already past this milestone, it'll take seconds.
Morituri DLC
Introduction:
Welcome to the third piece of DLC for Microsofts' Ryse: Son of Rome. Entitled the 'Morituri Pack'. For those who like a bit of culture in their achievement guides, 'Morituri' is Latin for 'We who are about to die'. It's part of a longer oath of 'Morituri te salutamus' which means 'We who are about to die salute you'. So there you go.
The DLC introduces three new multiplayer maps to the game; Sulphur River, Revolution and Forbidden Forest. It also includes two new solo maps, Beacon and False Gods. The DLC also introduces one new Gladiator skin for you to wear in the arena, King Oswald.
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
Step One -
Play a round of survival on Forbidden Forest with thirty environmental executions.
Step Two -
Complete the solo map Beacon.
Step Three -
Complete the solo map False Gods.
Step Four -
Reach rank 200 / Make 1000 Executions. Fortunately, both of these are retroactive if you have already passed the totals and will pop when you start your first multiplayer round.
Cloud Update DLC
Introduction to Title Update Achievements:
Well ladies and gents, it seems three little achievements snuck their way into our Ryse: Son of Rome achievement lists. Luckily for most of us, these achievements may actually unlock without having to play much of the game, if any at all. Adding a whopping 250, this title update delivers no new content, although it does boost gamerscore and takes roughly one hour to complete baring any Xbox Service issues.
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
Start out by going to your achievement app and seeing what, if anything, has already unlocked and what you have left to do. We will tackle "Et tu, Brute" first. If it has not unlocked, or says "Done, unlocking..." then there is a quick little way that has been reported, and confirmed to work for some people. Load up the campaign and head into the first chapter simply replaying it on the easiest difficulty. After completing the first chapter for a second time you should unlock the achievement even if it says that it is "Done, unlocking..." If it does not unlock after the first chapter replay, you will need to re-do the final chapter as well. Now let's shift focus to those two multiplayer achievements.
If you are like most people and are returning to these achievements, you probably have already unlocked "Beware the Ides of March" for 15 executions in a single multiplayer game. This is a relatively easy achievement to grab if you do not have it. Simply load up the multiplayer, go to solo, and choose Barbarous as your map. Now if you have already completed the achievements for this game and did not play it strenuously for fun, you may only have one or two map completions for Barbarous out of the required seven. For "Madness in March" to unlock you must complete the map, not simply start and quit. So load up Barbarous, get your 15 executions (remember the little symbol above an enemies head and then ), finish the map, and keep replaying it until you snag seven Barbarous completions. You can keep your achievement tracker snapped to keep your progress locked in.
Conclusion:
Ryse is a fun, albeit fairly short game, like most of the launch titles the achievements aren't that taxing and pretty enjoyable to obtain. Just have fun, enjoy the eye candy and welcome in the next gen with style.
