Introduction
Welcome to Soul Calibur II HD Online. This is a remake of Soul Calibur II, first released in 2002, and as the name suggests, this version has been touched up graphically and has added online multiplayer. Two of the three previous platform specific characters, Heihachi Mishima (PS2) and Spawn (Xbox), are playable in this version, while Link (GC) is still missing for obvious reasons.

This game has 30 achievements for 400, and is a fairly simple completion as far as fighters go.

Step 1: Weapon Master Mode
The majority of your time spent playing will be in this mode, and as such you will unlock the majority of the achievements in this mode.

-> The easiest and quickest way to work through this mode is to use Raphael. You can walk through this mode by spamming 6 and throwing in the occasional and 3
-> There are a few missions that require you to do your damage by smashing the opponent into the ground or the wall, so for those you should switch to Astaroth and spam 66
-> Avoid switching characters too often as weapon prices increase for characters the more you use them
-> Save buying weapons until the end because you will get a number of them for free as you work your way through the mode
-> Only buy the one costume required to unlock "Expert Style". Other than that costumes aren't required for anything so save your gold
-> If by the end you still need gold you should replay these missions:
Chapter 6 (Aldebaran) > City of Nashira (Extra) - gives 16,000 gold
Subchapter 4 (Procyon) > Lynx Arbor (Extra) - gives 19,200 gold

Step 2: Other Modes
You will need to complete the following modes one time each:

Original Mode > Arcade
Original Mode > Time Attack > Standard
Original Mode > Team Battle
Extra Mode > Extra Survival > Death Match (10 victories)

The last mode listed is not unlocked by default, so see "One Shot is All" for details.

As in Weapon Master mode, you can walk through these using Raphael.

Step 3: Online
The online portion of this game is short and sweet. You need to play 10 matches online, winning only five. The matches do not need to be ranked, so if you want to boost these you can find partners here.

Step 4: Mop Up
You should have unlocked the majority of the miscellaneous achievements working through Weapon Master mode, so at this point the only achievements you should have left are "Hard-earned Fortune" and "Bloodluster", but you may also need any of the following:

Guard Breaker
The Abyss
Azure Soul
Comeback Kid
Mind's Eye
Moment's Notice
Eternally Unscathed

See the achievement guide for details on any specific achievement.

Conclusion
You will unlock "Tale of Sword and Soul" at the same time you unlock your 29th achievement, at which point you have completed this game. Congratulations if you made it this far. Weapon Master mode becomes a little bit of a chore after a while but hopefully you still found the game enjoyable.

[XBA would like to thank dakisbac for this roadmap]

Tale of Sword and Soul10
Unlock All the Achievements (4)

This will unlock when you unlock your 29th achievement.

Flame Wielder10
Victorious over Inferno in Arcade

Before starting, go into the game settings and change the Difficulty Level to Easy, 1P Fight Count to 1, and turn Neutral Guard Off. You can also modify Life Gauge and Round Time if you'd like, but it's not necessary.

Select Original Mode > Arcade to begin. You have to beat seven random opponents and Inferno in round eight. Select whichever character you're familiar with, or you can walk through it using Raphael by spamming 6 and throwing in the occasional and 3 for good measure.

Don't worry if you lose as there are continues.

Swordsman's Soirée20
Unlock All Characters (9)

This achievement might as well be for fully completing Weapon Master mode because that's what you have to do. There are 24 characters total, eight of which you have to unlock.

Requirements:

Chapter 2 (Thuban) > Minkar Mine - unlocks Yoshimitsu
Chapter 3 (Benetnasch) > Carnival - unlocks Charade
Chapter 3 (Benetnasch) > Benetnasch Harbor - unlocks Cervantes
Chapter 4 (Mizar) > Charon's Pass - unlocks Sophitia
Chapter 6 (Aldebaran) > Seginus Temple - unlocks Seong Mi-Na

Subchapter 1 (Schedar) > Stone Temple (Extra) - unlocks Berserker
Subchapter 3 (Pollux) > Castle of the Damned (Extra) - unlocks Assassin

Every stage normal and extra mission - unlocks Lizardman

Some of the Subchapters and Extra Chapters won't be available until you have unlocked Extra Missions, so don't worry if it appears you've beaten everything but this hasn't popped. In particular, note that you cannot unlock Subchapter 2 (Alioth) until you're at least level 72.

You will reach level 72 naturally playing through all of the missions and extra missions, and once you have done that you need to complete Chapter 4 (Mizar) > Merope Monastery (Extra) to unlock Subchapter 2 (Alioth).

As for going through the mode, it's recommend you use Raphael. You can clear most missions quite easily by spamming 6 and throwing in the occasional and 3, not to mention you will make good progress towards "Bloodluster". For the few missions that require you to do your damage by smashing the opponent into the ground or the wall, switch to Astaroth and spam 66. Other than that, avoid switching characters too often as weapon prices for characters used will be higher than the others.

Guard Breaker10
Successful Guard Break

Guard Break is a move that, you guessed it, breaks through and hits a guarding opponent. You can find these moves in the Command List: they are the moves that have a pink GB icon in the help column.

You will most likely get this naturally playing through the various game modes, but if not simply grab a second controller, jump into Original Mode > VS Battle, and do it against an idle opponent. If you previously disabled Neutral Guard in the game settings, make sure to turn it back on first.

I used Nightmare's 4 move.

Ephemeral Battle10
Guard Impact Triple Success

A Guard Impact is either a Parry or a Counter, and is achieved by pressing 4 or 6 respectively as an opponent is about to strike you. You will have to unlock this achievement along the way to fully completing Weapon Master mode as you need to perform two to beat Chapter 6 (Aldebaran) > Crytomeria Ridge, and you have to beat each mission twice.

If you want to get this earlier or easier you can also unlock this in Original Battle > VS Battle or Original Battle > Practice using a second controller.

The Abyss10
Ten Ring Out Victories

You can get a Ring Out by luring your opponent to an edge and using a launcher to knock them off.

You will most likely get this naturally playing through the various game modes, but if not simply grab a second controller, jump into Original Mode > VS Battle, and do it against an idle opponent. Turn off Neutral Guard in the game settings before starting.

I used Raphael's 3 move.

Azure Soul15
Three Successful Soul Charge Hits

To do a Soul Charge hit you must hold until you glow blue before striking.

You will most likely get this naturally playing through the various game modes, but if not simply grab a second controller, jump into Original Mode > VS Battle, and do it against an idle opponent. Turn off Neutral Guard in the game settings before starting.

One Shot is All10
Ten Victories in Extra Survival Death Match (2)

You must progress quite far in Weapon Master mode before you can even attempt this achievement since this mode is locked at the start. To unlock Extra Survival Death Match:

  1. Complete Chapter 10 (Antares) > Tartaros to unlock Extra Missions in Weapon Master
  2. Complete Chapter 8 (Merak) > Crystal Mine to unlock Subchapter 3 (Pollux)
  3. Complete Subchapter 3 (Pollux) > Castle of the Damned (Extra) to unlock Subchapter 3 (Pollux) > Hero's Trail
  4. Subchapter 3 (Pollux) > Hero's Trail to unlock Subchapter 4 (Procyon)
  5. Complete Subchapter 4 (Procyon) > Mount Procyon

To reach 10 victories in the mode, choose Raphael and select Estoc or Queen's Guard as his weapon if you have them; these increase his reach. Once more, spam 6 and you'll walk through this mode since Raphael's speed and increased reach almost guarantee first hit, and in this mode you only need to land one hit.

Hard-earned Fortune10
Victorious in Sudden Death (4)

Sudden Death occurs when either both fighters are knocked out simultaneously or time runs out with both players having the same life left. You'll want to go for the latter method as it's much easier. In this round, two or three hits will knock out the other fighter so be careful.

Unfortunately this achievement cannot be unlocked using a second controller, but it's still not all that difficult. Go into the game settings and change the Difficulty Level to Easy and the Round Time to 30 seconds then start Original Mode > Arcade. The strategy is to just avoid your opponent for the duration of the fight. Constantly move away, and if they do manage to get up close just guard and let them attack once before moving away again. Two characters you might want to try with:

Taki. She's the fastest character and you can leap forward a fair distance with .

Yoshimitsu. He's also quite fast and can actually regenerate a small amount of health with if you do manage to get hit.

Alternatively you can do this online. Besides extreme luck, boosting is pretty much the only way this will happen, so look here for boosters.

Sturm und Drang10
Standard Time Attack Cleared (1)

Time Attack is harder than Arcade because you cannot change any settings and there are no continues. It's set at 2 rounds, 50 seconds, presumably on Normal difficulty.

Select Original Mode > Time Attack > Standard to begin. You have to beat seven random opponents and Inferno in round eight. Select whichever character you're familiar with, or you can walk through it using Raphael by spamming 6 and throwing in the occasional and 3 for good measure.

Comrade in Arms10
Team Battle Cleared (1)

Before starting, go into the game settings and change the Difficulty Level and turn Neutral Guard Off. You can also modify Life Gauge and Round Time if you'd like, but it's not necessary.

Select Original Mode > Team Battle to begin. You have to beat five teams of three opponents, all of whom are random except for third slot on the fifth team, which is Inferno. Select a team of three for yourself, choosing whichever characters you're familiar with. You can walk through it using Raphael by spamming 6 and throwing in the occasional and 3 for good measure, so you should put him on your team even if he's not your primary character.

Don't worry if you lose as there are continues.

Comeback Kid10
Ten Successful Counter Hits

A Counter Hit is just a regular attack that hits the opponent as they're attacking you. You will definitely get this naturally playing through the various game modes.

Mind's Eye10
Five Successful Throw Escapes

A Throw Escape occurs when you attempt a throw ( or ) right after your opponent.

You will most likely get this naturally playing through the various game modes, but if not simply grab a second controller and jump into Original Mode > VS Battle. With both controllers in hand, throw with the second controller and then immediately with the first controller.

Moment's Notice15
Used Guard Impact against a Guard Break move (1)

A Guard Impact is either a Parry or a Counter, and is achieved by pressing 4 or 6 respectively as an opponent is about to strike you. In this case, they have to be attempting to strike with a Guard Break move.

Unless you use Guard Impacts frequently, it's not very likely you will get this naturally. While you can of course get this against the AI, you cannot rely on it to use Guard Breaks frequently so it's recommended you grab a second controller and jump into Original Mode > VS Battle.

The timing for this is a little bit difficult when using two controllers yourself, so unless you can get someone to help you'll want to use a Guard Break move that's fairly slow. I used Nightmare's 4 move, though remember it will be 6 for player two.

Eternally Unscathed15
Twenty Perfect Victories (1)

You will most likely get this naturally playing through the various game modes, but if not simply grab a second controller, jump into Original Mode > VS Battle, and do it against an idle opponent. Turn off Neutral Guard in the game settings and set the idle player's Life Gauge to 5% before the fight starts to finish this quicker.

Bloodluster20
Ten Thousand Hits (7)

Do not worry about this achievement until you have finished off everything else. After fully completing Weapon Master you will likely be very close, so you'll want to go into Original Mode > VS Battle to finish it off. Turn off Neutral Guard and change the Round Time to infinite in the game settings, and set the idle player's Life Gauge to infinite before the fight starts. Use Raphael and spam 6. Use a turbo controller if you have one.

First Trial5
First Trial Point Cleared in Weapon Master

See "Swordsman's Soirée".

Soul-Consuming Sword20
Acquired Complete Soul Edge in Weapon Master (3)

You will unlock a Soul Edge weapon for each completed stage in Subchapter 2 (Alioth) if you wait until you can get there, or you can buy some once you reach Extra Chapter 1 (Castor). To access the shop press and select Shop.

Soul Calibur30
Acquired Soul Calibur in Weapon Master (1)

You can buy Soul Calibur once you reach Extra Chapter 2 (Cepheus). To access the shop press and select Shop.

Incessant Swordsman5
Became Lv 6 "Platinum Neophyte" in Weapon Master (1)

See "Swordsman's Soirée"

Legendary General5
Became Lv 40 "Gold Mercenary" in Weapon Master (1)

See "Swordsman's Soirée"

Edge Master20
Became Lv 72 "Iron Edgemaster" in Weapon Master (2)

See "Swordsman's Soirée"

Skilled Shopper5
Purchased New Weapon in Weapon Master Shop

To access the shop press and select Shop. Note that the items change depending on where on the map you are.

You will need to buy all the weapons if you're going for "Master of Arms", but even if not you should be buying weapons as you work through Weapon Master since they are better than the default weapons.

The cheapest weapons are sold in Chapter 1 (Regulus) for 600 gold. Note that weapons for characters you use will start to cost more than the others at some point.

Expert Style10
Obtained New Costume in Weapon Master Shop (1)

To access the shop press and select Shop. Note that the items change depending on where on the map you are.

Though you can obtain costumes playing through Weapon Master, you can only obtain this by buying one. Costumes are quite costly so make sure you only buy the one required for this achievement, otherwise you're creating more work for yourself; you need to save all your gold to buy all the weapons.

The cheapest costume is sold in Chapter 5 (Altair) for 17,000 gold.

Master of Arms30
Obtained All Weapons in Weapon Master (2)

You will have to buy the majority of weapons but you do unlock some along the way. Since the ones you unlock are random I suggest holding off on buying weapons until you've beaten Weapon Master and have unlocked all that you can for free. You can unlock weapons in these locations:

Chapter 4 (Mizar) > Windmill
Chapter 4 (Mizar) > Deserted Village
Chapter 4 (Mizar) > Charon's Path: 4 right, 2 up
Chapter 5 (Altair) > Paradise of Altair
Chapter 6 (Aldebaran) > Underground Juno: 2 right, 1 up, 3 up
Chapter 7 (Rigel) > Forbidden Grounds
Chapter 10 (Antares) > Court of the Dead: 5 right, 1 down, 1 right
Chapter 10 (Antares) > Court of the Dead: 5 right, 4 down

Chapter 4 (Mizar) > Charon's Path (Extra)
Chapter 8 (Merak) > Phantom Cave (Extra)
Chapter 10 (Antares) > Court of the Dead (Extra)

Subchapter 1 (Schedar) > Stone Temple: 2 right, 3 up, 2 right, 1 up, 2 right, 1 down, 1 right
Subchapter 2 (Alioth) > Celbarai Fortress
Subchapter 2 (Alioth) > Ceres Stronghold
Subchapter 2 (Alioth) > Ancient Library
Subchapter 2 (Alioth) > Temple in the Clouds
Subchapter 4 (Procyon) > Ruchba's Mandible: 2 right, 2 up, 1 right, 3 up, 4 right, 2 down, 1 right
Subchapter 4 (Procyon) > Ruchba's Mandible: 2 right, 2 up, 1 right, 3 up, 4 right, 5 down, 1 left

Extra Chapter 1 (Castor) > Swordsmen's Grave: fight 14
Extra Chapter 1 (Castor) > Swordsmen's Grave (Extra)
Extra Chapter 1 (Castor) > Gateway to Hell (Extra)

Extra Chapter 2 (Cepheus) > Er Rai (Extra)
Extra Chapter 2 (Cepheus) > Hero's Tomb: fight 12
Extra Chapter 2 (Cepheus) > Hero's Tomb (Extra)

You will require a significant amount of gold to buy the remainder of the weapons, so unless you're keen on having everything don't bother buying anything besides weapons, except for one costume to unlock "Expert Style". If you need to replay missions for gold your best bets are the gambling missions because they have the best gold to difficulty ratio and because the amount of gold you win doesn't decrease after each replay. They are:

Chapter 6 (Aldebaran) > City of Nashira (Extra) - gives 16,000 gold
Subchapter 4 (Procyon) > Lynx Arbor (Extra) - gives 19,200 gold

Exemplary Fortitude20
Defeated 50 Male Characters

See "Resplendence"

Resplendence20
Defeated 50 Female Characters

Do not go out of your way for this or "Exemplary Fortitude" as you will unlock them naturally playing the game. Since there are more male characters than female characters you will unlock this achievement after the other, but you will have them both before fully completing Weapon Master mode.

Mark of the Gladiator5
First Victory in Online Mode

See "Battlefield Luminary"

Against All Odds20
Won 5 Times in Online Mode

See "Battlefield Luminary"

Battlefield Luminary10
Fought 10 Times in Online Mode (11)

To complete these achievements you only need to play ten matches, winning only five. Though you could probably beat randoms quite easily using Raphael or whoever else you're good with, you can also boost this since the matches can be Player or Ranked. Look here to find other boosters.
