Warning: Wielding the powers of these heroes may trigger intense cravings for pizza. Enter the world of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and battle to save New York City in this game based on the Nickelodeon animated series. Play as one of your favorite characters and experience an action-packed storyline set between the show's first and second seasons. The side-scrolling brawler brings plenty of TMNT attitude and martial-arts mayhem in big melees and cool, animated cut scenes. Play the adventure in single player or team up with friends to become a force of four and use Turtle Powers to save the city in drop-in/drop-out local co-op play.
Step 1: Regular Playthrough [Non-Timed Attack]
Start the game by playing through the story line. There are sixteen levels. Each level is fairly short and enemies aren't difficult. During this playthrough you will pick up a handful of the achievements. As you play keep a few achievements in mind like; In Your Face!, Snag 'Em and Bag 'Em, Ninja Aim Yo!, I Like Breakin' Stuff. These will all come naturally as you play, and some might even unlock without you knowing. Also there are collectibles in this game. They are all very simple to find and shouldn't give you a hard time.
Also you will need to collect Energy Shards. These will help you upgrade each turtle. The Energy Shards are shared between the four turtles. Chances are you will not be able to fully max out all four turtles in one playthrough. But don't worry. You will need to play the story line one more time in Time Attack and also play 35 waves of Survival Mode. Which will give more than enough Energy Shards to upgrade each turtle.
Step 2: Time Attack Playthrough
Time Attack will need to be unlocked by collecting 11 Mutagen Canisters.
In Time Attack you will need to play through the story line again and beat each level under the time given. The times to beat are very generous. Having one or more turtles fully maxed out does help in defeating enemies faster and will save you time. See the related achievements below in the guide for more details.
Step 3: Survival Mode
Survival Mode will need to be unlocked by collecting 18 Mutagen Canisters.
Survival Mode is a horde based game mode. In which you will need to defend yourself from waves of evil enemies trying to defeat you. See "Turtle Power!" for more details.
[x360a would like to thank MeonOner for this roadmap]
You will encounter Fishface in the level 1-3 Docks and he will possess no real threat. This will be a three part fight. Just wait until Fishface jumps onto the dock to be able to hit him. If you take damage or are close to dying, pick up the food source at both ends of the dock.
You will first encounter the Mega Mouser deep in the subway tunnels in level 2-2 Subway. The mega Mouser will take a few good hits to defeat it. Try clearing out as many mini mousers and other enemies first before attacking.
You will encounter Baxter Stockman at the beginning of level 2-3 Stockman Labs. This will be a three part fight and it will start as soon as the cut scene has ended. Baxter is very slow, but makes up for it by summoning a wave of mini mousers and shooting bombs. The only way to attack Baxter is to wait till he is in the middle of the lab and has summoned a few boulders. Hide behinds one of the boulders and wait until he finishes his laser attack. Quickly run out and attack him to lower his health.
You will encounter Dogpound on level 3-3 Dogpound. This will be a three part fight and proves no real challenge. To attack Dogpound, wait until he jumps into the air and slams his fist into the ground and gets stuck. Quickly go and attack Dogpound at this time. You do not have to worry about any other enemies during this fight.
You will encounter Justin the Supermutant on level 4-3 Super Mutant. This is a three part fight and another simple enough one. Simply wait until he puts his tentacles on the platform and attack them. During this fight there will also be small waves of foot clan enemies.
You will encounter Shredder on level 4-4 Shreeder's Throne. This will be a three part fight. You can start to attack Shredder as soon as he jumps off his throne and onto the main floor. In between this, you will also have to face off with waves of foot clan enemies. If Shredder gets a hold of the turtle you are playing as, quickly switch over to another turtle and attack Shredder to free him.
There are a total of 33 Mutagen Canisters found through the game. Once you are near a Mutagen Canister you will here a loud humming noise. Search the general area to locate the canister. The majority of the canisters are impossible to miss. You should be able to collect all the canisters in one playthrough.
See "Master of Secrets" for locations of all Mutagen Canisters and Secrets.
There are a total of 9 secrets found through the game. And they can only be found by locating and activating a secret switch. To find these secret switches walk through the levels and search every possible area of that level. You will know you have found the secret switch when you see a button prompt at the bottom right of your screen to press or when one of the turtles says "I am picking something up on the scanners.".
All secret achievements will unlock after completing the level.
To unlock Survival Mode you will need to collect 18 Mutagen Canisters. To access Survival Mode, from the main menu select Extra > Survival Mode.
Survival Mode is actually pretty easy. You will need to beat wave 35 to unlock this achievement. You will get five lives to start off with, so make them count. I would recommend at least having one or all of your turtles fully maxed out. I personally used Leo all the way through. Felt like his attacks and special ability were more effective.
There are three Survival maps: 1-3b Fishface, 2-1b Dojo, 5-4 Shredder's Throne. Probably the best level to do would be 1-3b Fishface. The enemies will drop down in waves onto the raft.
A few tips for Survival:
1. If an enemy flashes red, immediately run out of the way. The enemy is using an unblockable attack and even using a special attack with the B button will not connect.
2. Always take out Rat Kings first (they are the Rats with the Raiden hats that like to toss bombs at you. Also any Krangs with a ranged weapon for that matter.
3. Don't be afraid to spam the Special attack when the meter is filled. Using Leo was a good choice for me because his special attack seemed to always regenerate after 3 secs.
To unlock the Time Attack events you will need to collect 11 Mutagen Canisters, but will need to complete the game at least once to have all story levels unlocked. To access the Time Attack, from the main menu select Extra > Time Attack.
The times to beat for each level are very generous. Try not to waste to much time collecting energy shards and you should finish the level with a few minutes to spare. You will need to complete each individual level again to unlock the specific achievement. Also it would be recommended having one or all your turtles upgraded.
To throw enemies at the screen you will need to lower down there health first. Then once an enemy is stunned, you will see a prompt above their head. Press + down, this will causes the enemy to be thrown at the screen and slide down it. This can done at any point of the game with just about every enemy.
To throw enemies into containers you will need to lower there health first. The containers in which you can throw enemies in will be marked with a green arrow above them. Once an enemy is stunned, you will see a prompt above their head. Press + towards the direction of the container, this will causes the enemy to be thrown into it and be trapped. A good amount of the levels have containers, so this should come naturally.
To throw enemies into breakable objects you will need to lower there health first. Once an enemy is stunned, you will see a prompt above their head. Press and use the to throw the enemy to the nearest breakable object. Many level have breakable objects, so this should come naturally.
A good place to grind this out if you are having trouble is 5-2 Streets. There are many creates and park benches.
This will come naturally through your play through. There are a lot of breakable objects spread out through each level (eg. wooden crates, garbage cans, etc). Simply break all the objects you coming contact with and you wont have a problem in getting this.
