Torchlight Achievements

Achieve maximum fame

To achieve the maximum fame, it must be level 33 (Demigod). You can still gain more levels in fame even though the achievement calls it maximum. This will require you earn 756,000 fame experience points. You earn fame by defeating Champions (rare monster who have specific names). They're usually either bigger than other enemies, or glowing (or both). You should see a couple of them a floor, especially in higher numbered floors. As you level enemies level, as will the fame you get per Champion monster killed. You'll be getting around 10k for each Champion you kill once you're a specific level.

Each class has a specific skill that grants you more experience and fame. You will want to max out right away to save time. This skill is called Adventurer. You'll have to kill roughly 200+ champions to get the max fame level. You can check how many you have killed in your stats screen. You will be able to get this skill, with any class, at level 10.

Just to give everyone a heads up: Fame runs parallel with XP, and can be achieved by defeating unique monsters.
If you're the type who enjoys hunting rare drops, then this should come as second nature with a little bit of a grind.

This seems to be the hardest achieve in the game.
Never finished it on PC though, so not sure if you max out by the time you finish it or if you have to grind.

Easily the last achievement you will get from what I've read maximum fame is 55 and I've beat the game and my Fame sits at 15 so that is still quite a grind to go!

Thanks for the info. I'm glad that it's 33 instead of 55, but it's still going to be a grind!

#12/MuppeT May Cry, in the catacombs the amount of XP and fame you gain rises quite quickly, it took me 5hrs after i finished the game to fame achieve, i did this in 2 sittings and had overly powerful dual swords, so maybe 7hrs or 15 catacombs levels will see you get the achv.

Remember to spec into talents that give you additional fame, such as Adventurer for the Alchemist. At lvl 10, it increases the fame earned by 20%, so that's quite a lot less grinding needed with it.

I just got it, it is for sure Level 33 Fame !!! It took me another 4 hours of play after beating the last boss but it was worth it. Really fun Action-RPG and I look forward to a sequel. Why dont they make more Action-RPG's these days ???

Not a bad achievement. Got it at Fame level 33, as the others stated above, only had to go down to level 5 of the catacombs to get it, but I had done every village member quest (make sure to go back to the village every two levels in the main dungeon) as well as all the side-quests from the guy beside the waypoint, and quite a few phase-beast levels and Map levels. The quests from the guys in the village all give around 1000 fame, and then if you do the side-quest dungeons too they all have at least two or three "yellow" boss enemies that give mucho fame too.

Alternatively, once you finish the main game you can talk to the woman NPC at the top of the village near the chest, and she will let you "retire" your current character and you can pass on all of your current characters Fame and a

When you finish main story there are 2 characters by the crypt who'll give u endless quests so you can keep leveling up. Does start getting a bit boring though!

Agreed, Klobberific. I figured that it was going to be much closer to the end of the game (and was hoping I'd get it before the final battle) but I've still got a ways to go.

There is also a skill set that if you increase to maximum gives you 20% more exp and 20% extra fame. It also increases the effectiveness of potions by 80% makes this achievement that little bit easier.

Oh my gosh, this took forever lol. It took me 3 more nights of playing this game after I beat it to get my Fame up to level 33 for the achievement to pop. But still, good game and I'm glad to have this completion done. :)

Since no one has mentioned it so far.. After beating the game you get the option to retire your character but keep your "fame". This is however terribly misleading. You keep your notoriety with the people of torchlight as far as story progression goes, BUT you DO NOT keep your fame level!!! I did this thinking sure I'm fame 26 so I'll finish it out as a different class, but that's not how it works. Fame reset to level 1. Just wanted to throw out the warning to anyone thinking of doing what I did.
