Overview:
Toy Soldiers is a new and interesting twist on the tower defence genre. Based around World War I, you're given two campaigns to play. One as the British, the other as the Germans. These campaigns are like most tower defence games, in where you have to defend an object from the opposing sides forces. However, you can take control of your towers and manually fire them for extra cash bonuses. On top of the two campaigns, the game also sports a Survivor mode and competitve multiplayer (local and Xbox Live).

Step 1:
You should play the campaign on casual. I suggest you do the tutorial to familiarize yourself with the controls, and also pick up the "Fire in the Hole" achievement. As you progress through the campaign you will unlock "Jumped the Bags," "Old Contemptible," "Flying Pig," "Old Sweat," and assuming you finish a level with no enemies reaching your toy box, "Foot Slogger." When you finish the campaign, you'll unlock "Coffin Nails" and assuming you got General rank on every level, "Sweet Fancy Adams" too.

Step 2:
Before starting campaign+, I suggest completing some of the easier achievements. Load up local multiplayer, win against yourself on all maps and unlock "Pickled Monkey." Complete the first level on elite difficulty for "Throw a Seven," and finally survive 5 rounds on the Survivor game mode to unlock "Pip, Squeak & Wilfred."

Step 3:
Now you've done all that, your final achievement to get is "Brass Hat." This one can be a little bit tedious because the ration tickets are a little harder to get when playing through campaign+. Follow the guide if you're having trouble with any of the ration tickets.

The Kaiser's Battle

The achievements are few and easily obtainable. You can unlock all 3 within 1 playthrough, but considering the short length of the DLC, it is recommended to go back through for the collectibles achievement, so you can concentrate on that without compromising your defenses.

Step 1 - Campaign
Basically, just start the campaign. There is only this 1 campaign mode added with just 3 levels to complete. There are 2 missable achievements and 1 story related, and thus un-missable achievement. 1 of the missable achievements is a collectibles achievement and the guide for these can be found in the description for this achievement below. The other missable achievement is for performing a combo and tips can be found for this in the description for it below.

As previously mentioned, you should consider leaving the collectibles in your first playthrough, as trying to obtain them could compromise your defenses if you aren't paying attention to them.

Invasion!

Step 1 - Campaign
Just 1 step, and it is to play and complete the short campaign. There are 2 missable achievements, 1 of which is a collectibles achievement and the other is for shooting down a certain amount of UFOs. Details for both of these can be found in the guide below, so be sure to read them before starting the campaign, especially if you plan to obtain all of the achievements in a single playthrough.

Overall, Toy Soldiers is a simple 200, with one or two time consuming achievements. Definately one for fans and newcomers to the genre.

There are 18 achievements with a total of 300 points

  • Complete level 1

After completing the tutorial, you will be thrust into the first level. There's nothing special about this achievement, just complete the level.

  • Defeat Tsar Tank

During level 3 (Nonne Bosschen Wood) you will come across the Tsar Tank near the end of the level. Have as many Howitzer guns shoot at it. It should go down before it reaches your toy box. The Tsar Tank will occasionally drop off a group of infantry.

  • Defeat Zeppelin

During level 6 (Fort Douaumont) the Zeppelin will show up toward the later part of the level. Have a Pom-Pom tower on the north side of your base, preferably upgraded to an Old Quick Flak.

When the Zeppelin arrives, it will appear from behind the level on the left side and proceed to fly around the edge of the map. Keep shooting it with your Flak, shoot off it's propellers for extra money.

  • Defeat Uber Tank

During level 9 (Battle of the Ancre), at the very end you will come up against the massive Uber Tank. To take it down as quickly, replace all anti-infantry towers you have with mortars and upgrade them. Note that the Uber tank can, and will crush some of your towers occasionally, as well as drop out some smaller tanks. Rebuild as needed, but spend the rest of your time shooting it with the Whippet tank.

  • Complete the Campaign

This is a story related achievement and will unlock with natural progression.

Complete all 12 levels of the Campaign.

  • Earn General Rank on any level

You should get this during the first level. Survive all the waves without a single enemy entering your toy box and you'll get General rank at the end of the level.

  • Win a Multiplayer Match on every level

You can either get this locally, online, or a mixture of both.

  • Complete any level in Elite mode

Keep playing the game until you unlock the Red Star. Once you have it, load up level 1 (Langemarck 1914). Place the Red Star down at the beginning of the choke point and a Vicker's Machine Gun (upgraded to level 2+) to the right of it.

Lastly, place down a Howitzer on the main build space. Remember that when playing on elite, your turrets won't auto-fire. Most of this level is infantry so the Red Star will be able to take out 90% of the units without much trouble.

Place some barbed wire along the path to slow down the infantry and make it much easier on yourself. When the cavalry comes along, use the machine gun post to pick them off before they get close. The final wave is just one tank that will be destroyed with just one hit from a howitzer.

  • Survive until Round 5

You won't be able to set your difficulty for this achievement, so be prepared as you will be overwhelmed. You start off on a level with an armored rail tank firing at your position, with just 20 points in your toy box. This tank will also occasionally stop to send some armored infantry at you. I have provided a Map to show you how I survived until wave 6. Firstly build the machine gun towers, followed by the chemical tower. After you have enough money, upgrade them all to level 2.

Once done, start building up your two cannon towers. When they're at level 2 is a good time to put down some mortar towers. Then when everything is in place, it's just a case of keeping them repaired. You can put down barbed wire around your fort to help slow down the enemies, but it'll more than likely just get blown up.

  • Guide a shell to its destination

You can get this during the tutorial level. Build yourself a howitzer then manually take control of it. Then press and hold to go into shell camera. Once the shell hits the ground, the achievement should pop.

  • Earn General Rank on all Campaign levels

The easiest way to get this is by playing all levels on casual. Go through each level making sure not a single enemy makes it to your toy box. If one does, go back to it using the level select.

  • Complete Campaign+ and earn all Ration Tickets

To unlock Campaign+, first complete the regular campaign. Then you must obtain all 24 ration tickets (12 from each campaign). Follow this guide for all the ration tickets.

DLC: The Kaiser's Battle

There are 3 achievements with a total of 50 points

  • Find all of the golden cubes in The Kaiser's Battle

There are a total of 15 golden cubes, 5 for each level the list is as follows.

    Blucher-Yorck

    1. In the left of the "England's toy soldiers" box straight in front of you as you start. Best to use a Level 2 mortar placed where the original Machine gun is to hit this one.
    2. To the right of your Toy box there are 3 buildings a long one and 2 short ones the cube is next to the north most small building. You can snipe this or use a nearby tower.
    3. Inside your Sniper Tower on top of the Toy box. Use a AA gun or mortar for this one.
    4. Turn your camera to face the two bridges to the south then look slightly to the right and up a little the cube is next to a small building on the edge of the map. Its best to snipe this one.
    5. Aim directly left of the last cube past both bridges and next to the waters edge you should see a small building the cube is just underneath it. Best to snipe this one as well.

    Operation Gneisenau

I used the Biplane to get all of these cubes

    1. Slightly north of the Biplane in the south east corner next to a hanger style building. Circle round with the Biplane to get it.
    2. Head north from the last cube and the second is right next to the second large turret space.
    3. Head South West from cube 2 (towards your Toy box) and there is a small ruined building (its the northern most one) the cube is right next to it.
    4. Just above the Toy box entrance. Hard to miss
    5. To the west of the map is a ruler being used as a bridge the cube is just underneath the side closest to your lines.

    The Last Offensive

    1. Its on the top of one of the hangers in the south west corner. Best to snipe.
    2. In the north west corner on top of a wall. Looking through the snipers scope its just left of an enemy Howitzer. Obviously Snipe this too.
    3. Get in the bomber and fly straight ahead the cube is near a hanger right in front of you. Best to use the bombers gun to get this.
    4. Turn right and fly over the bridge the cube is in the bushes just before you get to the large turret space. Bomb this cube.
    5. The final cube is inside the large building behind the large turret space. Bomb the building and the cube into dust!
  • Defeat the K-Wagen

The boss of Kaiser's Battle isn't too difficult to beat, but can be a little confusing since it regenerates its health a few times. The K-Wagen drives in a straight line down the bridge in the middle. Just build six level 3 Howitzers and keep turning them to face it using and . It shouldn't take too long to defeat using this method.

  • Get a 40x blast combo

This can be a bit awkward if you are trying to get all the DLC achievements in one play but can be done. On The Last Offensive play through as normal until you get to the wave of planes that come just before the last infantry wave. Turn all but one of your Howitzers to face away from the bridge using or . Then take control of the Howitzer facing the bridge (make sure its level 3) and aim for the north side of the bridge. When the infantry wave starts fire and guide your shell to hit the middle of the mass of troops you should easily get more than a x40 combo.

DLC: Invasion!

There are 3 achievements with a total of 50 points

  • Shot down 40 UFOs with your P-51 Mustang

This achievement is best done in the first mission. The P-51 is on the runway to the left of your starting position. Hop in it right at the start and go at full speed to the far end of the map. At this point, slow down and shoot down UFOs as they spawn on the left and right sides. You can easily get 20-30 here before you have to go build turrets to defend your base. Build up your defenses including two level two anti-air defenses, and then when you see more UFOs are going to spawn, jump in the P-51 and head toward their spawn points. If there are zeppelins around, keep your distance or they will shoot you down.

As you kill each UFO, a counter will increment in the lower right corner to let you know your progress, and the achievement will pop in-game when you reach 40. You do not need to finish the mission.

  • Defeat RoboBob

This is the boss of the third and final level. He spawns in the houses to the right of the airfields and circles the map on his way to the toy box. The best weapon to use is a level 2 anti-air turret. The AI will shoot at him as well, but you will do significantly more damage if you manually fire the turret next to your toy box entrance starting as soon as he spawns. He does morph through three phases, but all three phases should be defeated by the time he gets up onto the final straight away if you have sold any artillery and placed all four large turrets as level 2 anti-air. Note that level 3 anti-air, while important to get to this point, doesn't seem to actually affect RoboBob, so sell them and replac with level 2.

  • Find all of the golden rockets in Invasion

This is glitched for many people, but can be easily remedied. To determine if you are experiencing the glitch, shoot any of the rockets. If you fail to get an alert at the bottom right corner, then you are unable to earn this achievement unless you go into options and delete all game progress. However, this fix does seem to work 100% of the time, and does not impact the playability of the DLC.

There are five golden rockets on each map. They can be hard to see since they blend in with the often brown background very well, and become progressively harder if your life goes below 10. They save regardless of winning the mission as long as you don't quit, and the achievement will pop as soon as all 15 have been destroyed. You must shoot them until they break, and then you will get an alert in the bottom right corner of the screen to track your progress.

    The locations are:
    When Toys Collide
    - To the left of the sniper tower on the runway.
    - To the right of the toy box, next to a building at the end of the trench.
    - In the center of the map at the bottom of the valley.
    - On a castle at the far end of the map.
    - In the back right corner, in a clearing under the UFO launch point.

    Not of This Toy Box
    - To the left of one of the Space Tanks in a fenced in area.
    - On the right at the far side of the map behind a well.
    - In front of the castle behind a large church in the back left corner.
    - In the trees to the left and behind the sniper tower.
    - In the bushes in front of toy box, on the hill that separates the entrance from the main battlefield.

    Revenge of Toyzilla
    - In the dip at the right edge of the bridge in front of Toy Box.
    - In front of a house on the right edge of the map.
    - Between a pair of rocket barracks to the right of the air field.
    - In the trees next to the short leg of the road.
    - In front of a house directly in front of the toy box, all the way at the far end of the map.
