Introduction

You get to pick 1 of the 3 characters available from the start of the game. You can pick any one you want, none have specific achievements related to them. You can pick any power you want, again no specific achievements related. The difficulty can be whatever you want as well, though there are achievements related to difficulty. You can play through on the hardest and all difficulty achievements will stack. You can, however, just start a new game+ from an easy playthrough(continue after beating game) and select the hardest difficulty. Replay the last mission, and the achievements will unlock for the harder difficulties. There are collectibles in this game in the form of challenges, posters, dossiers, and X-Genes. Follow the Collectible Guide HERE to reference where they are at. Just to point out, you do not need 100% of the suits and X-Genes for any achievements. You only need one entire set for an achievement.

Step 1: Brotherhood playthrough on easiest difficulty

This game has a system set like many other games, where your choices make you on one side or another (good/bad, light/dark, etc). The actual status bar has literally no effect on any achievements, so do no pay attention to it. Pick the easiest difficulty and as you play through, always side/choose anything to do with the Brotherhood. The characters in the Brotherhood include Magneto, Mystique, Toad, Pyro, Quicksilver, and Juggernaut. Make sure to always side with them. There is no need to ever dashboard to pick an alternate side for an achievement, it is not worth it.

You will get all collectible based achievements as well as 14/15 challenges. You will be missing Northstar's challenge. When you speak with him in the game, he will talk about his challenge but it will never trigger. Ignore this and move on.

Step 2: Replay specific missions for alternate achievements and challenge

Now you need to replay the specific missions below. They will allow you to get the remainder story based achievements as well as the last challenge. Go to load game in order to replay a level.

Mission 2: Pick to help Nightcrawler. Later on in the level, pick to Go with Cyclops. After you get both achievements associated with those choices, you may quit back to the main menu.

Mission 5: This mission sets you up for getting Northstar's challenge. You must get to the end of the level where Nightcrawler is. He will ask you where you want him to teleport. This time, choose the X-Men.

Mission 6: Now play until you get to to Northstar and you can finally do his challenge, which is the last one you need. Continue on with the mission and fight Magneto and Juggernaut again. When asked who you want to go with, pick Cyclops and the X-Men. This will give you an achievement as well as set you up for another achievement in Mission 7.

Mission 7: Last but not least, play until you have to destroy the 4 devices to save Northstar from mind control. Once done, you will get your last story based achievement.

Step 3: Replay Challenges/Mop Up

Note: The reason this is not the last step, is because once you start a new game on the hardest difficulty you will be playing the challenges on that difficulty. It's true you can change your difficulty in game, but you would have to do this every challenge.

Pick the various challenges that you failed to complete. Once they are done, get your kill achievements. Refer to "The Goon Squad" achievement description in the guide for more details and help. You can also replay levels to grab any collectibles you may need.

Step 4: X-treme and X-Man difficulty achievements

From the main menu, choose continue. The game will tell you about how you will keep your stats but your non-important status with X-Men and Brotherhood will be cleared. Accept the terms, and this time choose X-treme difficulty. Once the game starts, quit out to the main menu. Go to load and pick your character. Choose to play on Mission 8. This will be the hardest part of the game, you may look at the associated difficulty achievements for more info. After beating the last boss, you will get both achievements since they stack. Now you can reload the mission and let yourself die up to 100 times to get your 0 pointer.

Conclusion

This is a pretty short game in general and very easy on the achievements. Not being able to skip cutscenes makes this game longer than it normally would have been. Also, with 3 characters, 3 different power type trees, and 3 different power choices, you could still put a lot more time into this game. If they had achievements based on playing as every character and every power type, this game would have been twice as long at minimum. Seems they give you 1000 points and you only get to experience 1/3 of the game.

If you were lucky enough to pick up Gambit's Defensive X-Gene, you will get an XP boost to help out.

Note: If you replay levels that give you a choice on your powers again, don't pick the alternate power until you have fully upgraded it. If you switch it, the only way to switch it back is to replay that level again. If you do have it fully upgraded and switch it, don't panic when you see the new power at level 1. The achievement will still unlock as long as one out of each row has been upgraded at some point.

  • Equip a complete X-Gene set and suit.

See "How Strong Could It Be??" achievement description.

  • Complete your first Great combo.

See "This can't be happening!" achievement description.

  • Complete your first Insane combo.

A combo starts building as you get attacks in without taking damage yourself. You can get this a lot of ways. The best way is to use an ultra power which you will get late on in the game. Then you can replay challenges that have many enemies. The best challenge to get this on is challenge 9 which is given by Quicksilver in Mission 4. Build up your power and then use it when there are lots of enemies. Great is the first you will get, and Insane is the 5th (but not last) combo you will get.

    Example Character: Aimi

Use Shadow Phase. Press to swoop a group of enemies. Keep doing so and you'll easily get an Insane combo. You cannot be damaged in this state. Remember to have it upgraded to max so that you can fly around for 45 seconds.

    The combos are listed below:

    -Great
    -Awesome
    -Astonishing
    -X-treme
    -Insane
    -Uncanny
    -X-Tinction

  • Trigger X-Mode.

To trigger X-Mode, you must have a matching suit and X-Gene set. Hit and equip them all to match a specific Marvel character. Once you do so, you then must have at least 4 bars of M-Power. This is the blue bar located below your health. Once you have these specific things met, you can trigger the power. Just press to do so.

Suit: This is the piece that shows what the X-Mode power will do.
Offensive X-Gene: This piece will usually add status effects to attacks, among other things.
Defensive X-Gene: Usually associated with dodge or M-Power bar being filled for extra defense buffs.
Utility X-Gene: Gains more M-Power quickly, adds an extra bar of M-Power, or gives you a way to move faster in the game (by holding and ).

Note: You may not get this for a long time depending on your luck. All of the X-Genes and Suits are random, so it's completely based on chance.

  • Break 30 Combat Text Pop Ups.

While fighting enemies, there will be a text pop up telling you how many you have left. This will appear very obviously while you are fighting in big letters, on the screen. Just attack around or at it for it to shatter. Depending on your character and moves, you may have to use a combo or jump attack.

  • Defeat 10 enemies with one Ultra power.

Your ultra power will be available to you during Mission 7 after talking to Gambit. If you have at least 4 M-Power bars (the blue ones below your health) you will be able to use it. Hold and press to use it. Now attack enemies, and you should be able to defeat 10 of them while your power is active. You will now be able to use this in challenges as well.

  • Complete your first challenge mission.

    See "Completionist" achievement description.

  • Complete 10 unique challenge missions.

    See "Completionist" achievement description.

  • Complete all 15 unique challenge missions.

There are 15 challenges found in the game. You can get 14 of them in one playthrough. Play the game picking all Brotherhood based choices.

Brotherhood Includes: Magneto, Mystique, Quicksilver, Juggernaut, Pyro, and Toad.

You will have all but 1 challenge in the game as long as you found all of the hidden ones in the levels. To get the locations for those, refer to this guide HERE. The challenges are all extremely easy and you should be able to complete most of them in one try. You can always replay them by choosing load and then selecting challenge. The key to getting the last one is to reload Mission 5: Uncovered. Make sure you have Nightcrawler teleport you to Cyclops. Now, load up Mission 6: Priorities. You just have to get to Northstar and talk to him. Because of choosing to teleport to Cyclops, he will now let you do his mission.

Note: Challenges are the perfect way to get your kill based achievements.

  • Destroy your first piece of propaganda.

See "Cleaned Up the City" achievement description.

Also, you can go to load from the start menu, go to select mission, and it will show a list of your progress. There are 36 posters in the game, meaning more than needed for the achievement. • Collect your first dossier.

    See "Archivist" achievement description.

Also, you can go to load from the start menu, go to select mission, and it will show a list of your progress There are 24 dossiers in the game, meaning more than needed for the achievement. You only need 15 of them. Also, if you press , you will see "collectibles". Choose that and it will show you the various characters in the game.

  • Defeat 2000 Purifiers.

See "The Goon Squad" achievement description.

  • Defeat 20 Purifier Stalker Mechs.

See "The Goon Squad" achievement description.

  • Defeat 20 Prime Enforcers.

See "The Goon Squad" achievement description.

  • Defeat 30 U-Men in the Secret Lab.

See "The Goon Squad" achievement description.

  • Defeat 500 MRD Troops.

To check your status on how many you defeated, hit and then for statistics. It will show how many you have done. You can replay levels and challenges. This must be done on one character and cannot be split in different save files.

The following below will describe the various enemies you need to kill to get the "defeat X amount" achievements.

Purifiers (Challenge 9): These are the more common enemy in the game. If you need more, you can replay challenge 9. There are 100 enemies as well as a Stalker.
Stalkers (Challenge 8 or 11): This enemy is a mech that stomps and shoots guns. You must attack it's legs, then attack it when it falls. The best challenge for this is challenge 8 or 11. Challenge 8 has a U-Man as well, so it is the better choice.
Enforcers (Challenge 9): This enemy is a mech with a force field around it. You must destroy the force field before it's health can be depleted. The only challenge these appear on is 9.
U-Men (Challenge 7 or 8): This enemy can be normal or giant. There are a good amount to kill on challenge 7, but you can get some while you go for stalker kills on challenge 8.
MRD (Challenge 15): This is an enemy you see more during the final stages in the game. Play challenge 15 to get these kills. An alternate method is when you are fighting a lot of MRD with The Brotherhood, do not continue on. The enemy will keep respawning and you will be able to use your ultra power often to rack up fast kills.

Note: Sometimes you may have to wait a long time before your achievement will unlock for enemies defeated. Example would be defeating 2388 purists before the achievement finally unlocks. Another is defeating 22 enforcers, then the achievement unlocks 15 minutes later while you are fighting normal enemies.

    CHALLENGE KEY

  • Finish the game on X-Man difficulty.

See "Omega Level Mutant" achievement description.

  • Finish the game on X-treme difficulty.

These difficulty achievements will stack! You can start at this difficulty right away if you want, but it would likely cause you to play more hours in the game than needed. You can if you want, but instead, there is luckily a trick like in many other games where you only need to play the last level on the hardest setting.

Step 1: Beat game on easy
Step 2: Continue from menu. Select hardest difficulty.
Step 3: Exit back to menu after game starts. Load up Mission 8.
Step 4: Beat the last level

    Hints for X-treme (Mission 8)

Do not use your powers, save it. It's best to have Wolverine's defense X-gene to give you one more health bar as well as health regen. You will need to level it up.

Groups of Enemies: You will want to use attacks and dodge when things get shot at you. Be careful, one or two hits can put you in a really bad situation. Focus on enemies that use projectiles.

Sentinel: This was the hardest part in my opinion. It's somewhat of a struggle up the building, but there's no real trick but to keep jumping and watching your timing. As far as the boss goes, it's best to have your power bar full if you can. If you have it, equip Quicksilver's X-gene set. When the sentinel's chest opens, press and start attacking. You may also choose to use Wolverine's set. This will let you heal quicker and do more damage, so you would want to wait for when you needed it. You will probably die a whole lot here, but you'll start to get used to the attacks. They are the same every time you play. When the sentinel puts the energy bombs on the ground, you can still attack his chest on the side when he puts one in front of him. You will very much want Wolverine's defensive gene for this fight!

Tip: People have found you can hit the sentinel's arm when he tries to hit you to help with the fight.

Bastion: Not as tough as a fight once you get the hang of the attack patterns. If you have Quicksilver's Utility gene and have maxed out all levels, you will be in extremely good shape! It will allow you to make short work of the teleporting. If not, most other utilities will work for speed. Once you get him to his 3rd time for repairing shield, you'll hopefully have 4 bars of power. Activate your ultra power and finish him off.

  • You were defeated 100 times.

To die, your health must be depleted to zero. Falling does not count as a death. You should not die 100 times through normal playthrough, unless you are struggling through on the hardest difficulty.

To get it easy, load up Mission 8 (last level) on the hardest difficulty. You can also pause your game and change it manually. Let the enemies kill you, it only takes them a few hits. The game will reload you right in harm's way again.

  • Finish the game on New Mutant difficulty.

See "Omega Level Mutant" achievement description.
