Zoid's Assault Walkthrough

Introduction:

Zoid's Assault is a turn based Strategy Role Playing Game (SRPG) that was released in 2008. It is based off a popular Anime show and toy line. As with most strategy games, the game does not rely heavily on graphics; although the little cut scenes (that you can skip) of when your Zoid moves to a point and attacks is kinda cool, but gets old fast.

You are in control of 5 Zoid's, 2 Wolf, 2 Liger, 1 Dibison. When you first start you have limited movement and attack range. The battlefield is basically just squares that are highlighted that will show you where you can and can't go to. Your Zoid's will acquire many upgrades and unlockables as you progress and level up your heavy metal animal machines of death.

You should spend approximately 10 to 15 hours during the 2 campaigns it will take you to complete all the - achievements. 5 of the achievements are story related and will unlock as you complete so many missions; generally after completing 3 missions you will unlock a % completed achievement. The final 3 achievements are missable and specific criteria needs to be met to fight the hidden Zoid's.

Playthrough 1:
You will earn 5 achievements upon completion of the 14 campaign missions. Each mission has specific guidelines such as defeating all enemies, destroying certain installations, or even protecting buildings from the enemy assault. As you progress and defeat enemies you will earn and find new weapons and upgrades for your Zoid's. You can upgrade your Zoid's inbetween missions as you see fit. It is highly recommended that you avoid destroying the "S Crates" during this playthrough as they will cause the 'Unknown' Zoid's to appear; and on your first run through they will pound you into scrap metal. It is recommended however, that you destroy the regular crates on the battlefield... if you can. It's possible that they'll contain beneficial items for your Zoid; but it isn't necessary to go out of your way.

Playthrough 2:
Your second playthrough will be easier. You will be starting a New Game + and all your Zoid stats, weapons and armor will carry over. If some levels gave you trouble before, you will breeze through them now. Your main focus for this playthrough is to find and destroy the 'Unknown' Zoid's. As you progress through the same missions again, you will have to destroy "S Container" on certain levels which will cause the 'Unknown' Zoids to appear. The "S Container" are different from normal crates and have a yellow health bar.

Your secondary focus of this playthrough is to attain the Satellite Laser weapon on Mission 6! You will need to have a Missile type weapon to get the "S Container" that contains the laser. The Satellite Laser is by far the best weapon in the game with the 2nd highest damage and the largest range. (It is possible to get this on your first campaign; just highly unlikely, as you won't have a missile type weapon yet. The only way to get one is luck and a data disk drops from an enemy that uses a missile launcher.)

Missable Achievements:
A quick overview on the 'S Containers'. These are different from normal containers as they have a yellow hitpoint bar. They are found on specific levels: 2, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14.

Unknown 1: You will need to destroy 2 'S Containers', one can be found on Mission 2 and the 2nd is in Mission 5. Upon destruction of the 2nd crate, the Unknown boss will spawn in Mission 5.

Unknown 2: Destroy the 'S Containers' on Missions 6, 8 and 10; upon destruction of the last S Container on level 10 the boss and some friends will spawn in that mission.

Unknown 3: Destroy the 'S Container' on Missions 12 and 14, once the last container is destroyed on Mission 14 the final 'Unknown' boss will spawn with a squad.

Please refer to the guide for more detailed information on the Unknown spawns.

Conclusion:
Overall the game isn't too difficult; except a couple of missions. At the time I played it, I wasn't very familiar with SRPG's but I managed to make my way through it. You should spend no more than 15 hours to make it through the campaign twice. As long as you follow the guide, and possibly the walkthrough should you get stuck, you'll finish with 1000.

Rent-A-Pilot50
Here's a token achievement. (6)

Mission 1:

There are 4 enemies in front and 2 more will appear from the back. Just take them out to finish the level.

Mission 2:

You start out with your team split to the right and left. There are 6 enemies in front. After taking out 4 another 3 will appear at the top.

Mission 3:

This may be difficult. I believe on Mission 3 you get to use a system called EMP or thats when I actually started using it and knew what it did. What it does is it Attacks multiple enemies within range from all your Zoids up to 7 times, IF everything is perfectly setup. (might be more but I have not done more than 7 at a time) . Instead of going for cannon power it might be better to equip your Zoids with snipers and machine guns. The only Zoids that I have a cannon equip on is my Mechanic Zoids (Healer) Don't forget to Heal your Zoids. During mission 3 after defeating 3 of the enemy Zoids 4 more will appear at the top. I found it best to move to the right and take out the first 2, let them come to you and when the second wave come hopefully they take the long path around to you.

Zoid Crusher75
You eat enemy Zoids for breakfast. (2)

Mission 4:

After defeating 4 of the enemies Zoids on the field 6 more Zoids will appear. 4 in front and 2 in back. Just keep moving up and let the 2 at the bottom come up.

Mission 5:

Mission Six you need to take down 3 satellite within 12 turns. I found it a bit easier to send 2 sniper and a healer equip with a range cannon to the left and send the other 2 with a range cannon and a Zoid whose has the most movement per turn with a machine gun up front. Around Turn 6-8, 4 more enemy Zoid will appear at the top. This one may take some time to complete. What I did was try to take out only the enemies in the way and head straight for the satellite.

Mission 6:

There are 10 enemy Zoid with range cannons. after taking out 2, 4 more will appear(2 to the bottom and 2 to the right) . After taking out 4, another 4 will appear (2 to the left and 2 to the top). Going with sniper and machine gun up close seems to be the best way for this level. Have the Defensive command skill and use that whenever you don't attack. At the start move your team to the left side of the field and hold the top and the bottom of that side.

Scourge of Jamil100
Jamil soldiers fear your Zoids' wrath.

Mission 7:

You have to protect a satellite. Just sit back and wait for them to come. There will be 3 addition enemies after killing off a few. NOTE: You can Heal the Satellite if it gets damage.

Mission 8:

You have to protect a satellite. There will be an addition 3 enemy Zoid in the left corner after you kill a few. Don't Advance up. Pretty much stay within the area that you start out. There are gun emplacement that does about 500 damage so be patient and let them come to you. You don't have to blow up the gun emplacement to finish the mission NOTE: You can Heal the Satellite if it gets damage.

Mission 9:

You have to Protect a satellite. Just sit back and wait for them to come to you, only difference between mission 7-8 is in mission 9 they will usually just try to get to the satellite so make a blockade with your Zoids. If i remember correctly there should be 3 waves containing 6 Zoids for each wave. NOTE: You can Heal the Satellite if it gets damage.

Pride of Maroll125
Your success brings honor to Maroll.

Mission 10:

This was the longest mission for me so far. My setup was to have a sniper and a healer protecting the top satellite and a sniper, healer and machine gunner to protect the lower side. I just stack myself up against the satellite and waited for them to come. Just use Defensive Command and Heal consistently. After you take down 4 another 3 will come from the top. After you take a few more another 3 will appear at the top.

Mission 11:

This was actually pretty easy. You need to get pass the last artillery gun at the end of the level. There will be enemies in your way but I went with light armor and all stat boost to speed/movement. I just went straight from the start and cast Defensive Command/Heal. You have only 15 turns to reach the end.

Mission 12:

At the start of the level start making your way to the left side of the field taking out all the enemies on that side. after taking out 3-4, 7 more will appear. 2 on the left where you should be and the rest in front. Stay in a bunch formation and start taking them out one by one. Try to take out their Healer first as they Heal quite often.

Mace-6200
Honorary 6th Member of the Mace Squad.

Mission 13:

This Battle Field is narrow. The enemies pack a lot of offensive power so just move through the field slowly. The artillery does a lot of damage so try to avoid those. After killing about 3, another 3 will show up at the top left. After killing a few more 3 more will appear in the same spot. You may have to take out an artillery station if one of the enemy does not move away from its spot.

Mission 14:

In this battle you need to kill 80% of the enemies that appears on the field. I suggest you play it safe and pick an area on the field to defend yourself. They appear on the left, top and right side. I believe 80% is about 15 enemy Zoids.

Defeated UNKNOWN-1100
Congratulations. You destroyed a new Zoid prototype. (1)

On your second playthrough, during Mission 2 and 5, destroy the S-Container on each map. These containers are the crates with the yellow HP bar and are labeled different from normal containters.

Enemy, Mission 5
R-Horn (Level 20)

This mission is timed. You need to get to the top left corner (killing the two satellites on the way) and destroy the S-Container quickly to spawn the boss. Then proceed to gang up and kill him, then move south to destroy the final satellite before time runs out. You're powerful enough that this shouldn't be an issue, but make sure you keep your health up for the final push.

Defeated UNKNOWN-2150
You have found and destroyed the second Zoid prototype.

On your second playthrough, during Missions 6, 8 and 10, destroy the S-Container on each map. These containers are the crates with the yellow HP bar and are labeled different from normal containters.

Enemies, Mission 10:
S-Tiger (Level 40), C-Wolf (Level 30) x2

For this mission you will be protecting those two satellites. Use the same strategy as before and destroy all enemies until only one remains. Don't counter or attack him, then proceed to break the S-Container and spawn the boss enemies. Keep watching the satellites and let them come to you or they'll rush them and you'll lose the mission.
Defeated UNKNOWN-3200
That was the final Zoid prototype. Good work, Mace Squad.

On your second playthrough, during Missions 12 and 14, destroy the S-Container on each map. These containers are the crates with the yellow HP bar and are labeled different from normal containters.

Enemies, Mission 14:
S-Tiger (Level 42) x3, R-Horn (Level 40) x2

This mission is a bit tricky as you have to spawn the boss enemies and destroy them before destroying 80% of the normal enemies to end the mission. I personally scraped by and killed one last enemy after all the boss enemies to end the mission. Start by moving toward the S-Container and pick off enemies until the first group of reinforcements spawns. You'll be on top of them, but go ahead and destroy them quickly and then blow up the S-Container to spawn the bosses. Again, hold fast and let them come to you, keep your heals up and focus on them before the normal enemies.

Thanks goes to axela1980, Galaxy28, and Final Crusader for the Unknown Achievement.
