Hmm.

I've been seeing a lot of love for Gone Home. Designed by Steve Gaynor. He worked at 2K Marin as a designer for BioShock 2/Minerva's Den, and he also worked at Irrational Games as a senior level designer for BioShock Infinite.

What do people think of something like Gone Home? Does it deserve the attention it's been receiving? I've personally never played it.

JAW DROP for Splinter Cell Blacklist being nominated for GOTY, that seemed like a quality title that would slip through the cracks this year and it really has to be honest. Thought it was the best of the last 4 titles. Some Co-op stuff (charlie's horde mode) and iffy MP modes (Everything that wasn't classic) let it down.

Dead Space 3 wasn't that bad. Fucking hell. Just throw the second disc in the bin and make up the second half yourself.
Here's a real disappointment: Crysis 3.

Swap out Remember Me for BattleBlock Theater in Best Soundtrack. That intentionally cutting/glitching stuff can do one.

AC4 for Best Multiplayer? People accuse CoD of copy and pasting but AC4 is just AC3 with new skins and maps. St. Pierre was actually a DLC map for AC3. I like AC's MP bar a few things, but this is really lazy. Nothing's changed. Even the smoke bomb bullshit and Manhunt slapathons are still a thing. Poor show Ubisoft.

Brothers sucked. A sad thing happened, now everyone's sad and here's some sad music so you should feel sad. Hollywood manipulation at it's most cliche.

#2: Depends if you want a no stress game, with no fail conditions that's all about environmental exploration and discovery at your own pace and putting the pieces together. Liking middle class lesbians is a bonus.
Also the speed-running community LOVE it. I think 64 seconds is the best time so far.

I'd vote for BioShock Infinite for Best Story, though I've not played Brothers. Found it a bit strange that The Wolf Among Us was included in that category, given that there's only one-fifth of the game available at present. That said, the first episode was quite good.

As for the others...not sure. There are several in the other categories that I would imagine are good candidates to win but I've not managed to play a few of them yet so will have to reserve judgement.

My game of the year is The Last of Us, but for 360 it would probably be Bioshock Infinite or GTA V, though DMC was a terrific game & I'm glad to see it getting some recognition on the list. It was an uphill battle with Capcom, releasing in January (or Feb, I can't remember) and fans whining (Ugh Dante's hair isn't white, why did they change, blah blah blah)

Best Premise: Remember Me (just a shame it wasn't executed better
Best Story: Bioshock Infinite. Why is Wolf Among Us here, anyway?
Best Multiplayer: GTA Online, despite its many flaws
Best Graphics: GTA V, although Bioshock is a close second.
Best Original Score: Blood Dragon, definitely.
Best New Franchise: The Wolf Among Us
Best Arcade Game: Blood Dragon
Best Innovative Feature: I'm partial to MG Rising's Free Cut system.
Biggest Surprise: Blood Dragon again. I don't think anyone expected this.
Biggest Disappointment: Colonial Marines.
Best Developer: Irrational Games, I suppose. Why isn't Telltale here?
Best Publisher: Rockstar.
Game of the Year: Probably Bioshock Infinite, out of those.

I'm glad Remember Me has some recognition, thought is was a great game. Tomb Raider and Blood Dragon are absolutely brilliant games too. I would have to go with Forza for graphics though, shiny cars, very shiny cars...

Game of the Tear - Bioshock Infinite

Arcade Game of the Year - Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon

I don't understand how A Wolf Among Us can be nominated for "Best Arcade Game" when only one fifth of it has been released so far. It's an incomplete experience. Don't get me wrong, I liked episode one, but you can't really put it up for this award when it's not entirely released yet.

@2 this is a console site so Gone Home is not mentioned. I have never played it also but it does seem to get a lot of love from other non console specific sites. Might check it out.

My GOTY would be Tomb Raider, not played a lot of new releases this year, gaming time has been limited with job, family etc, but I did play and immensely enjoyed Tomb Raider

@6 Yeah, heard about the ending to Gone Home. Adam Sessler seems to have loved it. People went apeshit at him for putting it up as his #1 above GTA V, The Last of Us, Bioshock Infinite etc. There's such a disparity between "gamers" and game journalists. Very interesting to watch the dilemma unfold.

@15 Even though this is an Xbox/Microsoft centered site and I fucking love it, I don't think it should mean that we should ignore other platforms and games not on the Xbox. I love Beyond: Two Souls and I think it deserves a lot more praise than what it's been receiving. Maybe it came at the right time for me but I found it very engrossing. I thought it was an interesting tale of life and death, and the homeless memory segment was something I really loved over The Last of Us's winter.

There's plenty I disagree with on XBA's list here. I think Metal Gear Solid Rising: Revengeance is just supposed to be Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

But I'm not trying to knock down what they thought was the bee's knees. It's their own opinion. I just think they should also give props to well received exclusives on other systems like The Last of Us (though I'm not a fan of the game).

Looking at the best multiplayer category for this year, I can only hope "next gen" brings better multiplayer games than what we've had to endure the past couple of years, half of the multiplayer nominees are broken, the rest are nothing special and aren't even the best multiplayer of the their franchise either. Bad times.

@23 Gears of War Judgement didn't "slip" through any cracks. In fact, it should listed in the "Most disappointing" category and remove Metro Last Light. That game was miles beyond the hack job that People Can Fly put together.

Extremely confused about how Metro: Last Light made "biggest disappointment" category even though it was above expectations, and how BF4 isn't there since it is a broken game and almost unplayable at moments... Anyways, here are my picks:

Best Premise - Remember Me
Best Story - BioShock Infinite
Best Multiplayer - Call of Duty: Ghosts*
Best Graphics - Forza 5
Best Original Score - BioShock Infinite
Best New Franchise - State of Decay
Best Arcade Game - Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
Best Innovative Gameplay Feature - Remember Me – Remixing / Contrast – Shadows
Biggest Surprise - Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
Biggest Disappointment - Aliens: Colonial Marines (or Crysis 3, Gears: Judgment & BF4)
Best Developer - Rockstar North
Best Publisher - Ubisoft
Game of the Year - GTA V

*Based on the fact that BF4 is broken.

I'd list GTA V in the Biggest Disappointment category but I never really had high hopes for it anyway.

Can't say anything about Ryse because I've never seen gameplay footage, I'm not interested in the game and I won't be buying an Xbox One.

GOTY should be Saints Row 4 but since I can't vote for it, I'll put forward my choices for the three categories I could be bothered with.

Best Premise - SR4
Best Arcade - Blood Dragon
Biggest Surprise - Blood Dragon

GTA Online was an absolute sham, now it's infected with hackers

How can you craft one of the most amazing online experiences with Red Dead Redemption and then release GTA in such a shitty state?

Metro: Last Light in the 'Biggest Disappointment' Category? That better be because you just couldn't think of anything else. So the game wasn't the Ukranian equivalent of Battlefield 4, big deal. It's got more immersion and depth than any 5 Battlefield or CoD games combined.

And biggest disappointment should have listed Battlefield 4. But no, it got "glowing" reviews. Too bad the bugs were overlooked...

Ryse? Really? Have you not played it!?
Obviously not.

Biggest surprise about it was that it wasn't completely able to put me to sleep.

Best Premise - Saints Row IV. OK now I know you're mucking around. That was a hideous after thought that runs like a dog and is almost exactly the same as 3 - bar the "Crackdown" elements they stole.

Wow. Did a retarded monkey pick this list. Normally you guys are good, but, wow.

Biggest dissapointment has to be Battlefield 4.

Best online multiplayer - GTA V. Bwaaahahahahaharrr! Come on, come on - stop it, you're killing me!

My GotY is either Tomb Raider or Rayman Legends, so sucks neither is there.
Personally my biggest disappointment was Bioshock.
The only one in that category I played was Aliens, and seeing as I didn't follow any of the pre release, and played with some friends, I actually enjoyed it.

Is there any way to get an explanation of how Metro: Last Light was so disappointing it deserved to be lumped in with the rest of those turds?

Seriously, tell me please because the game is just as awesome as 2033, if not more so.

Innovative game play feature without having the almost instantaneous character switching mechanism from GTA V that you guys touted as a great addition makes a ton of sense to me...

Sorry guys but I can't agree with Lost Planet 3 being a candidate for biggest disappointment given that it was miles better than the first two, and I reckon Splinter Cell: Blacklist was one of the best and biggest surprises of the year after the turgid Conviction, No? Oh well...
