Leipzig: The City of Lost Luggage

Leipzig: The City of Lost Luggage

Today was the day when 4 of the x360a staffers travelled the globe to meet up merely days before Europe’s humongous gaming convention. It was a day of ups and downs, well, mostly downs for some of us, but the fact is, we’re here and getting ready for the most hectic week of our lives.

The trip to Leipzig started yesterday for some of us, well for Minty it did, who after experiencing his first “soccer” atmosphere was feeling a little worse for wear, but nevertheless boarded the plane. The rest of us (Joe, Routine and I) just had to get up at some ungodly hour and travel across Europe which wasn’t too bad.

The first few minutes on German soil were quite disturbing for some of us, incredibly, 2 out of the 4 of us had their luggage “misplaced”.  I don’t mean to gloat, but thank the gaming gods, it wasn’t me... I think Minty will feel my relief as well as he seemed to escape the curse of the Berlin Baggage handlers.

So if Joe and Routine didn’t have enough to worry about with Minty and I throwing a bit of abuse their way, the car trip certainly made things a little more interesting.  Seriously, I kid you not, getting from Berlin to Leipzig and back to the small town of Halle is like running the gauntlet, blindfolded after 40 tequilas.

In the space of 200 miles, we had gone the wrong down numerous one way streets, ended up in a tram only zone, nearly wiped out a local German cyclist and had the Sat Nav literally lead us around in one relatively small 100 metre circle. The words “hold on, we just went past this sign” made us realise that the Sat Nav was in fact as useless as the German Baggage handlers we had just left behind. German efficiency my a%$£.

Anyway, that’s all by the by for now. We’re sat in the hotel, just about to hit the bar and “discuss” our game plan. So till tomorrow, I bid you all a good night. Forgive us if the news is slower than usual, we’re aiming to give you some pretty damn good Leipzig coverage and of course can’t do both at once. Check back tomorrow for how and what our coverage will consist of and we introduce you to a new staff member, Penny the Plushie.

Poor staff, that really was bad luck. :(

Though, the good part is that you are going to a wicked gaming convention. :D

That's hilarious (I mean that in a good way). It's all part of the adventure! Chug a few more then laugh about it.

Oh yeah... GPS/Sat Nav does have the habbit of becoming totally useless when you need it most. Been there - done that - hated it.

Was quite an interesting read actually!

You see, that's dedication for you - travelling half way around the world to cover Leipzig for the site!

Good Job Guys!

me being from Germany, I can tell you GC is great. Unfortunately I've only been there once. And I still don't get why they set it up in Leipzig, everyone hates the eastern part of Germany. Take it from me, the east is really ugly in places.

But hey, great that you cover GC 08!

P.S: consider yourself lucky you didn't go by Deutsche Bahn. they're often not on time and the trains are nearly always overcrowded so you wouldn't get a seat.
