Leipzig Opens Its Doors to the Public

Boy, what a day! First off let me apologise for the lack of live blogging today that we said we’d do. After getting there early and setting up ready to live blog the EA conference, we were beaten by the lack of a good wireless connection and throughout the day were defeated once more by that such dragon. Not a problem, you literally missed nothing!

Anyway, we got over that pretty quick and got involved in the action. The day was extremely eventful and extremely tiring (I suppose it didn’t help that we only had 2 hours sleep). Before I tell you what we did, let me tell you more about Penny the Plushie.

Penny the Plushie is exactly what it says on the tin, it’s a Plushie. This sweet little dear has been with us everywhere today (and will continue to be for the remainder of the event and will be attending PAX at the end of the month) whilst we try to get some of the best developers in the business to scribble their names on it and pose for a photo with it. Our aim is to get it signed by some of the biggest names at the event and then auction it off with all the proceeds going to the charity, Child’s Play. It’s nice to give something back after all.

Anyway, the Plushie met the vast majority of Ubisoft’s hugely talented development as well as LEGO Batman and Sonic amongst others and has a good array of signatures so far which is fantastic.

As far as the day went, apart from the conferences we attended which on the whole didn’t reveal much, the hands on certainly were eye opening. I personally spent the day looking at most of Ubisoft’s upcoming games and they look fantastic, especially Far Cry 2. The map editor on that will implode your head! But the game that most surprised me was most definitely HAWX where the controls seemed responsive and the environments looked stunning.

Minty and co took a look at a few of Activision’s titles and were mostly impressed with Quantum of Solace and were left a little bit unimpressed by Call of Duty: World at War. There are tonnes of photos that we took that will be added soon (150 in fact) and there is more to come.

Look out for the detailed previews that we’ll bring you in the coming months but check back tomorrow, when we visit EA, SouthPeak, Midway, Atari, SEGA and even some more Activision.

Did you guys get to see the new controller with the "improved" d-pad and ugly color? If so, did the d-pad actually feel better?

Sounds awesome.

And for defeating dragons it's best to use the sword of Excalibur.

I'm really glad HAWX is going well. I've been really excited about this since I saw the first video a long time ago.

Did you guys see anything of Borderlands?

I heard a fair bit about that game a long long time back and havn't really heard anything since. Noticed you mention it in diary number 2 and thought I'd ask if you'd seen anything of it in between drinks ;)

How was Call of Duty: World At War? I'm expecting it to be worse than Call of Duty 4, but better than Call Of Duty 3.

@ Sanction- they are introducing the new rules where a car has to turn right :-o

@ Kokiri - Personally I found it the exact same style as COD4 but with WWII weapons rather than modern ones. Some people will love this, some will hate. Personally I think more will hate purely because the name Trearch is involved,

Unfortunately for a lot, me included, the technology is a major factor in the gameplay.
A large chunk o' players would be dissapointed with no scope or silencer.

I'd give a demo a try, but i doubt if i'd buy it myself, maybe a rental jobbie.
