Following yesterday's hugely-anticipated trailer, Rockstar Games has officially announced Grand Theft Auto V (in case you were wondering), dropping the first important details on the game, such as its location and... and... Well, that's about it for now. Except for news of online multiplayer making a comeback.
It turns out that we were right not to jump the gun and assume that GTA would be heading back to San Andreas in our breakdown of the GTA V trailer, as Rockstar has today confirmed that the game will be set in and around the area of Los Santos and its surrounding hills, beaches and countryside, which presumably means that the game will be a fully fleshed-out take on LA, like Liberty City's take on New York in GTA IV.
That means no San Fierro (San Andreas' version of San Francisco) or Las Venturas (San Andreas' version of Las Vegas), but it does presumably mean that Los Santos will be a more detailed, nitty-gritty environment. As well as the usual mission-based storytelling that GTA is known for, online multiplayer will also be making a return for Grand Theft Auto V too.
Set in present day Southern California, Grand Theft Auto V's story will once again focus upon a pursuit for the almighty dollar, which will take you from the sun, sea and sand, to the poverty and desolation deep within Los Santos' seedy underbelly. There's still no word on a release date though... Here's the GTA V debut trailer again, in case you were mad enough to miss it yesterday.
