Assassin's Creed: Revelations Multiplayer Character and Map Pack DLC Incoming

With the Assassin's Creed: Revelations trophies being posted over on our sister site, PS3Trophies.org, there's a few revelations regarding two pieces of upcoming multiplayer DLC for the game, in the shape of a Character Pack and a Map Pack, complete with 10 new achievements in total.

The Assassin's Creed: Revelations Character Pack appears to add at least four new characters, with each getting a specific achievement based around their individual abilities. The new characters are The Corsair, The Brigand, The Privateer and The Gladiator.

Meanwhile, the Map Pack trophies mention six maps, some of which appear to be bringing back some of Ezio's old haunts, like Siena, Firenze and San Donato, whereas Altair's stomping ground is equally catered for with a Jerusalem map. There's also the Dyers map and Imperial District included on the list.

So, that's four new characters we know of for the Character Pack and six new multiplayer maps for the Map Pack. These add-ons have yet to be priced or dated, as they haven't been properly announced yet, but you can expect to see the new Assassin's Creed: Revelations DLC hopefully shortly after the game's launch on November 15th. Here's the trophy list:

Character Pack:

  • Stopped Dead - Obtain 3 Hidden Gun kills during a session of Steal The Artifact as The Corsair (Multiplayer).
  • The Vulture - Obtain 5 Ground Finish bonuses in Manhunt during a session as The Brigand (Multiplayer).
  • Pirate’s Bravery - Use the Bodyguard against your pursuer as The Privateer (Multiplayer).
  • The Juggernaut - Perform 3 kills using the Charge as The Gladiator (Multiplayer).

Map Pack:

  • Carnival - Stay blended for 3 minutes during a Wanted session in Siena (Multiplayer).
  • Wild Rage - Perform 3 Stuns without dying in Jerusalem (Multiplayer).
  • Restrained Violence - Obtain 5 Kill Assist bonuses during a session of any Team Mode in Dyers (Multiplayer).
  • Straw Hat - Perform 2 kills from haystacks during a session in San Donato (Multiplayer).
  • The Spice of Life - Obtain 2 Variety bonuses during a session in Firenze (Multiplayer).
  • Up and Down - Perform 5 Leaps of Faith during a session of Assassinate in Imperial District (Multiplayer).

DLC is now an absolute joke. I always thought it was to extend the experience of the game after the initial game was completed/became boring.

If it's there and ready to be released shortly after a game comes out, I don't see why they can't just put it on the disc.

@5 Because my friend theres probably a 4 Weeks Windows between when a game goes gold and get printed and shipped - and thats the time when they start with the first DLC. (Of course thats not true for every company, some maybe hold back on purpose to cash in after release)

@5 yeah I agree. It's totally ridiculous. Trading Standards or someone should make a ruling that no paid DLC can be released before 4-6 weeks after release of the original game. We are literally paying for half a game now days. Then we are expected to also pay for online passes(if bough preowned), stat tracking tools, and a whole bunch of day 1 DLCs.

I think I might have to go the route of other people and just wait for the GOTY editions.

Oh, for christ sake, here we go again.

Ok, when you pop in this video game will it fully function? Does the single player start and end at a logical place. Are you able to play multiplayer? The answer to all of those questions are yes. You are NOT getting half of the game. And I don't understand how missing four characters and six map is half the game. At most it's a third of the multiplayer.

The problem most people seem to ignore is there is a point in time during the development where certain people are told their job is done. Character animators, for instance probably have to turn in their work a months before the game goes gold, despite the fact that they have a few characters that aren't quite there yet, and probably will become scratched from the game. This is so the programers can make sure that when you push Y your character goes into Eagle/Templar vision instead, I don't know, let's say stab someone. Once that's all done there is extensive testing. They need to make sure the code works right, the animations are fluid and look right. Etc.

So what do you do with the character animators? You can't just let them go on vacation, because their might be an emergency that only they can take care of. Not to mention most people can't afford month long vacations. So developers will probably assign them to new projects (which is what probably happens with most of the staff). But there is also those characters mentioned in the previous paragraph that weren't done being animated yet. They could always finish those up so they didn't waste time.

It won't make it into the final game for numerous reasons. They would have to do a slew of new testing. Depending on how far along the game is it would have to be resubmitted to all the different rating agencies across the world. Sure the developers could push back the game, but that costs a lot of money too, causes them to miss most of the holiday season and generally would piss off their investors. "You want to delay the game a month to add four multiplayer characters? Fuck that!"

So really what it comes down to is even if the game went gold four to six weeks ago, there are employees who finished up their work on it four months ago. Some developers put them on new projects.

TL;DR version: Game development is a lot more complicated than you think it is.

Getting so sick of DLC being announced before the game's even released. Same goes with sequels, AC3 announced for next year before ACR is even on the shelves ¬_¬

Yepp, definitely. I can't say too much, but from my point of view (And I've played every game in the series to completion) it's an amazing installment in the series and tells a lot of the story.

They've done a lot in terms of gameplay, and there's a few side activities that you can sink hours of time into. Some of the new executions are brutal, too.

One of them sees Ezio use a scimitar of sorts, stick it through someones head, wrench it sideways, then use the now sideways sword to snap their neck around 180 degrees (So the head is facing away from you) before ripping the sword out. It's in slowmo, too. :D

@14 that's a nice story and all but; DLC has been around for quite a few years now, but it was never ever abused like it is today. As #5 said, it used to be used properly by extending the life of the games and keep it fresh 1,2,3,4 months down the line. Now it's is simply parts of the game purposely held back from the disc release (in fact a lot of the time it is ALREADY on the bloody disc), and they are using DLC simply as an extra revenue stream.

And if it's the case of people not finishing their work to given deadlines like you said, they need to step up their work rate.

I remember the good old days where when you brought a game, you got 100% of it.

Here's my problem with these, in AC:B I have the DLC, but I still have yet to use a single DLC character in the team-based games. They aren't a possible option if the people in game don't have the DLC as well.

@19, unless it's already on the disc you have absolutely no proof that it was intentionally being held back. You're just speculating (admittedly I'm speculating as well, I'm just a bit more optimistic about it). We also don't even know when it's coming out. Just because some trophies were spotted doesn't mean they are actually done working on it. It still could be another month before we see this stuff. At this point there just isn't enough info.

As for companies using DLC as extra revenue stream, of course they are. Ubisoft and all the other video game companies are a business after all. That was the way it was when paid DLC started existing, and that is the way it will always be. It isn't anything new.

Content on disc that you unlock, yeah, that's just wrong. I've purchased on disc DLC once and that was because I wasn't aware that it was already on the disc. I somehow overlooked the download size while purchasing. Yeah, never again.

Lot's of things get scrapped during development of games, and it's not always because people aren't working to their full potential. When games first enter development most they have these grand scale plans that have to get widdled down due to time and budget. Ultimately it comes down to profits (as previously stated Ubisoft is a business, and in order to stay in business they need to maximize profits). Sure they could have had their employees working hours and hours of overtime or hire additional staff to get everything done, but that can be really expensive and reduce employee morale. It doesn't make sense to dump a bunch of extra money into the project when it probably will have little to no effect on the sales figures. Have you ever heard anyone say "Only eight multiplayer characters? No way will they get my money. Maybe if there was twelve." It's a lot more feasible to have the base release and then give someone the option to get more characters.

You don't have to agree with the business model, but that's how it seems to be these days. If you don't like it, don't participate. No one is holding a dagger to your neck telling you to buy it or they'll end you. The fact remains that the disc that hit's shelves in just a few days will be fully playable. If people want more content they can have it, for a price. It's like buying a car. You really don't need power seats, but some people feel like it's a nice addition so they'll pay a little more for it.

Hmmm, The MP Achievements on the orginal list looked fairly straight forward, if these turn out to be achivements can see some of the map ones being quite tricky to do legit.

@15 Assassin's Creed 3 was announced late last year. Ya know, after Brotherhood launched and they said "We will be launching a new AC every year". How is anyone surprised by the news of AC3? >_> Seriously, they stated a year ago that we should expect one every year....

@19 You mean games that never got updated or had any flaws fixed? I remember those days too, and I'm glad they are gone.

I would personally rather have the DLC when it's ready to go for a variety of reasons, instead of it being finished and waiting 3-4 months to buy it then. First off, as stated, it's ready. I'm not going to complain about getting something SOONER rather than waiting for it >_> But I guess if you'd rather wait 4 months for DLC that is ready to go now, that's your choice. Most people find waiting for stuff to be annoying, especially if they don't need to.

Secondly, people who rent or borrow games can do everything now instead of having to re-rent/borrow/buy the game 4 months down the road when this DLC would launch if you had your way. I personally buy and keep all of my games, so this isn't an issue to me, but I do have friends that borrow games from me who live out of town, and its convenient for them when they borrow a game from me for the dlc to already be available.

Now, that being said, on-disc dlc usually pisses me off, unless I feel that the initial game is worth the $60 I paid. For example, an exception to that rule is Gears 3. Gears 3 came with so many options and game modes already available at launch that it was probably worth more than the $60 price tag on it.

I'm not a huge fan of the achievements forcing me to play in certain modes and play a certain way, but whatever. They don't look like they're gonna be that easy to get for the most part. I wonder if they'll possibly release them as free dlc. It's a stretch, but maybe.

I'm fine with the DLC and understand the timing of it...I just wish the achievements were better. Several are just stupid and others seem to bring back the need to boost.

There's DLC because the people did there jobs fast and with quality, so they had to work on other projects, which could be and apparently was DLC, plus there's other people at Ubisoft who weren't working on ACR, but some other game, who finished and had to work on something else (ACR DLC). Plus, it will probably be free.
