A feature published on Industry Gamers, entitled "United Front: 7 UK Studios To Keep and Eye On" has revealed an interesting morsel of information surrounding Brink developer Splash Damage, hinting that the studio might be working on a new Marvel game for Disney.
The report notes that Splash Damage is currently developing an "unannounced project for a major entertainment brand", which is supposedly "based on one of the biggest American pop culture brands of the last 50 years". That sounds a lot like Marvel to us. That major entertainment brand is also said to be "a company widely believed to have given up on the console publishing business", which could well be the same Disney that closed down Tron: Evolution developer Propaganda Games and Split Second: Velocity dev Black Rock. Disney also purchased Marvel Comics recently.
It then goes on to say that the new project will feature "online multiplayer technology" and will run on "an even more polished Brink engine". Are we talking id Tech 5 here then, or a polished version of id Tech 4, which is what Brink used? Either way, it seems that Splash Damage could well be working on a Marvel title using a version of its Brink engine, which may or may not be a tie-in for The Avengers movie scheduled for release in 2012.
We'll just have to wait and see...
