Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones Game Coming in Early 2012
Written By
View author's profile

Here's one that (stupidly) slipped through the news net... Atlus is teaming up with HBO to make a game of Game of Thrones, with Cyanide Studios on development duties for the action RPG, which will be taking both the bestselling 'A Song of Ice and Fire' books and the hit TV show starring Sean Bean as its inspiration. The original story is also being written under the supervision of the books' original author George R.R. Martin.

To date, the series of books has sold 15 million, while the HBO TV hit has scooped two primetime Emmy awards, making it one of the most popular fantasy franchises of all time. In the game, you'll be able to get involved in the drama as it unfolds, with a 30 hour-plus action RPG, set within the gritty medieval land of Westeros. You'll assume the role of one of two soldiers from Robert's Rebellion, forging alliances and waging war, as you play a pivotal role in the battle for the Seven Kingdoms.

You'll tackle numerous quests and make tough decisions, while exploring key locations within Westeros, from the majesty and isolation of the Wall, to the dark streets and alleyways of King's Landing. Check out the first screens from Game of Thrones below, then unsheath thine steel for the game's arrival in the year of 2012.

If the women in the game have big tits and there are minigames where you can have sex with them then count me in, the show seems to have alot of that anyway.

Can't wait. Just finished the last book so probably have to wait 5 years for the next one to come out.

@5 I dunno. It just says you play one of two characters who participated in Robert's Rebellion.

@6 I know the feeling, I'm near the end of the last book and I'm milking it for all its worth, you just know its going to be at least 5 years til the next one. That said the idea of the game looks interesting, there is a huge amount of back story within all the books mostly talking about Roberts rise to power so this is one to watch.

The RTS Game of Thrones for the PC kind of sucked. Hopefully this is a bit more entertaining.

Heard about this last week on the GoT IMDB board.
Looks pretty good - hope it's gonna be better than the GoT RTS game, heard that was abysmal.

@12.

Please don't let this game be your introduction to Game Of Thrones.
It might suck, and influence how you feel about the books or show.

:p

As a general rule, games make shit films, and films make shit games. Were it not for this, this announcement would have overjoyed me.
Here's to hoping they can pull it off. For now, i'll remain cautiously optimistic.

I'm in. The fact that it takes place in a different time than the books or show gives it room to not suck balls.

Odd. The TV series felt more like political intrigue than action. (never read the books) So an action game seems a bit, I don't know, incongruous with the feel of the show.

But, hey, if it turns out to be a good game, who cares?

No Fantasy Game for the next 5 years will ever feel as good since the release of Skyrim, its epic quality has spoilt me. I expect more now from my games

Reserving judgement on it until i've seen more.

Why don't they just get Bethesda to do it using the Skyrim Engine, it's so obvious!!
Skyrim meets A Song of Ice and Fire!!

Holy Winterfell! Fanboy mode activated. Looking forward to this one, hoping it doesn't blow. Way too much material in that setting to drop the ball. A halo wars style RTS would work wonders in the console. A straight up RPG and/or action/adventure (a la uncharted) can go in so many directions.

Sweet!

@15, good thing neither the books or TV program are a film then!

This could be great, but like previously stated if its not, it will slander the series.

I adore A Song Of Ice And Fire, currently working my way through A Feast For Crows. Jamie Lannister is hands down the best character of the series, his journey is amazing.

Yeh, working through crows as well. If this is the rebellion it should be pretty epic and wont suffer from them trying to make the books into a game. Not much in the books about the war so yeh, lookin forward to this.
Dont know if is ment to be him but the.first guy is the spitting image of james cosmo who played Mormont of the nightwatch

The next book is out in 5 years? Balls. Oh well its another series I can enjoy and I'll let my friend know how awesome the game looks she'll be stoked, she canceled Skyrim for this lol.

The books are amazing! I havnt been addicted to a series this much since Stephen Kings' "The Dark Tower." ...That said, I really hope this game doesnt butcher George R.R. Martin's work. Anyway, "words are wind" - lets see if the Gods honor us with a good rpg ;)

DAMMIT!!!!! Is the 6th book done yet George?!?!!?!?!?!

OK - I'm glad the game writing is being overseen by Martin himself, that's awesome and should keep it authentic and not just some lazy cash-grab tie-in....but....words are wind indeed, lets see that 6th book!
