Bioware are looking to add a multiplayer component to Dragon Age 3, according to a report over on Kotaku.
Coming in the form of arena battles against either AI-controlled enemies or human-controlled players, the multiplayer will apparently allow you to play as a dragon. Which is pretty freaking cool.
Built in DICE’s impressive Frostbite 2 engine, the multiplayer is thus far rumoured to be just competitive. No co-operative element was mentioned.
The move to add multiplayer elements to big RPG experiences is a growing trend, with the upcoming Mass Effect 3 providing a wave-based multiplayer experience.
Furthermore, Bioware have a track record of providing arena battles in their games. Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 1 all offered them in one form or another.
All of this adds weight to Kotaku’s report. Though it should be noted, this is very much just a rumour at this point.
