Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition to be Unleashed This March
Written By
View author's profile

Should you have missed out on the half price Mortal Kombat Season Pass during the 12 days of Xbox deals promotion, this should help ease the pain. Warner Bros. interactive has just revealed the Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition, which comes with all of the Season Pass content, as well as a whole raft of extra skins for the game's kombatants.

The Komplete Edition comes off the back of 3 million units of Mortal Kombat sold, bringing together the game's DLC all in one package. That means you get the four additional characters, namely Skarlet, Kenshi, Rain and Freddie Krueger, alongside 15 Klassic skins and three Klassic fatalities for Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Reptile.

Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition will be koming to consoles all over EarthRealm on March 2nd, 2012. Take a look at the box art below. [Update] It'll also be coming to North America on February 28th, 2012.

I was thinking about picking up the Season Pass during the sale, because I was planning on getting this game sometime in the next month or two. Guess it's a good thing I didn't.

Now they just need to make a complete edition of mortal kombat arcade collection that isn't riddled with bugs played this franchise since the beginning loved the series all through the nineties but MKAK collection was a massive slap in the face to the fans.

Hmm... I wonder if the DLC is featured on disc or as a code!?
Hope they don't do it as a code, cause that way you couldn't get the DLC in for example Germany (where the game isn't sold)... only option would be tempering with IPs, creating UK Accounts etc. which is quite complicated for someone without knowledge on how to do it properly.

@3 sorry i just gotta ask - what bugs are you referring to? i picked up the game on launch and had no issues whatsoever, maybe just lucky but had no complaints ( although MK 2 was a hard slog)

But with reference to the article, i hope i can picj up this copy and not have to do all the cheevos again, dont fancy doing what ive done again thanks!

It's official. I'm waiting before purchasing any fighting game. It paid off for MvC3 and now for MK.

I agree with #3 though, they should fix MKAK.

Depending on the price and what deals you got with the Season Pass/DLC, this Edition might not be cheaper than what some bought. Remember, a good majority of those 15 skins were free also.

And they didn't "pull a Capcom". Its just a Game of the Year Edition with all previous DLC and patches, like many other games out there. This is not a MvC3 - UMvC3 situation at all, so do some research before you cry.

@3 They patched it recently its playable now.

OT: Kinda lame trying to cash in. Especially sucks for people who already bought all this content.

Honestly, to all those complaining, sorry but that's what its like to get Video Games these days.

Here is the method I use for determining a game to buy or not:
1) When was the game released? If its been almost a year, see number 2. If its less than 3 months, buy it... unless its Capcom, then your SOL.
2) Has there been a large amount of DLC? yes? Then wait. No? Then you're probably safe. Is the game involve the word "fallout"? Yes? Don't be an idiot, it will come out in some complete bundle.
3) Has is suddenly dropped in permanent price on Amazon or other retailers (like Best Buy) by over $15? A new version might be coming.

Overall, once you reach the 9th month after a game's release (again, that is not a Capcom game), you run the risk of missing out on a complete bundle.

@5 How is this a Capcom move? Capcom makes the same game over and over but with new dlc, and fixes while this just added all the DLC within one package. So NO, its not Capcom move.

"the Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition, which comes with all of the Season Pass content, as well as a whole raft of extra skins for the game's kombatants."

Seems like the same game with all the DLC, plus the game comes with some bonus extras like a code to download the 1995 film. (Not listed in this article but it's in the official statement.)

I'm not complaining about it. If anything I'm glad because it'll eventually be a cheaper way for me to get the game.

@16 - Yeah, its more of a Bethesda move if anything, e.g. Fallout 3 GOTY.

... seems weird they would bother with the lack of content to the DLC... 3 characters and a bunch of skins isnt worth a completely new disc

Stop moaning. This is great news. I haven't bought all the DLC yet, so will just trade in my old copy and pay the difference. Which will be about the same as the season pass. What's the problem? :s No one is making you buy this?

I love how when a new game is released, people say "I'll buy it next year when the GotY edition comes out", and when they finally DO come out, then people bitch about the company "ripping them off" since they already bought the content.

This is how the industry works people. Release the game, release dlc for it, and after a year or so, package it all together and sell it as a GotY or Complete edition. Its not a hard concept to figure out. If you like something, buy it new and play the dlc as it comes out. On a budget/just plain cheap, that's great! Wait for the GotY edition.

People acting surprised by ANY game that has dlc releasing a new edition later are just ignorant. Fallout/Elderscrolls/Red Dead/LA Noire/etc etc.

The only franchise I can think of that doesn't do this is CoD, which doesn't really surprise anyone. I might have a little more respect for them if they DID release a GotY edition, instead of waiting 2 years to discount map packs.

That's it then? Only 4 new characters? ... Didn't Ed Boon say they wanted to release additional characters on a regular basis? Quite a letdown in my opinion with just those 4 :-/

I hope this edition will not have the extras as DLCs.

So essentially by calling this the Komplete edition, the one I bought is the inkomplete edition? I prefer when they call it GOTY edition, much less of a sting for me imo.

I have the complete, ultimate, or GotY editions of GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire, Borderlands, Uncharted 2, Dragon Age: Origins, and Fallout 3. Fallout: New Vegas is getting one, too, and I can almost guarantee Dragon Age 2 gets one. I just wish Mass Effect 2 would get one.

I'm mildly surprised that MK gets one, but this is very good news. I'll probably eventually get it for PS3 since I like the controller better for fighting games.

@ #28 - Mortal Kombat probably didn't get any GotY nods. I know that doesn't stop some publishers from putting out GotY editions, but this makes more sense.

I dont get why people think Netherrealm is "pulling a Capcom" or why any time a game is re-released with all the additional content the developers are "just trying to cash in on the franchise" cause "everyones already paid for it" the simple fact is not everyone has had a chance to play these games and not everyone has access to Xbox Live Gold where they can purchase the DLC... the developers just want people to enjoy their games and re-releasing them with all the after market content is a great incentive for people to enjoy these games... back in the day before I even had access to the internet at all I purchased the Game of the Year Edition of Oblivion and thoroughly enjoyed ever minute of it... if it werent for that game being released in that format I never would of experienced a little place called the Shivering Isles... despite popular opinion, yes video game companies have to make money obviously, but theyre not always out to milk every single cent they can get out of consumers... developers genuinely want people to play and enjoy their games... simple as that...

I would've got the new characters to see what they were like, but I didn't want to waste more money than I should have to (the only ones I care for to try out is skarlet and rain). To this date I have never seen anyone online using any of these characters. It either shows that they aren't the greatest compared to the original characters the game gave or not playable online I guess for the other reason. (For me, I use Kitana 95% online. These dlc characters probably won't change the fact since I am very good w/ Kitana.)

If this would've had it's own set achievements to it, I would've considered buying it, but don't see much point since it ties in with the original MK's 1000GS.
