Silent Hill: Downpour
A Double Helping of Grimy Silent Hill Screens Hunt You Down

With Silent Hill putting its stamp on a packed March with both Silent Hill: HD Collection and Silent Hill: Downpour doubling up on the scares, Konami has put out some new screenshots to hopefully get you in the mood for some survival horror, as you prepare to revisit the freaky haunted small town.

There's a few screens from Silent Hill 3 HD to check out, featuring female protagonist Heather, making her way through the rusted, filth-encrusted fairground inhabited by pulsating, walking bags of meat and offal. It's like Blackpool Pleasure Beach all over again. Check out all seven Silent Hill 3 shots in the gallery. The HD Collection also includes SH2, obviously, which for our money is the best Silent Hill game ever.

Then you'll find some Silent Hill: Downpour images, which see the latest victim of the deserted town, Murphy Pendleton making do with what resources he can scrape together. He'll also be striving to make good his escape from the surreal Silent Hill where nothing is as it seems, because no one wants to stop there too long for some reason. Bwah ha ha ha! You can take a look at all eleven new Downpour shots in the gallery.

Silent Hill HD Collection is out on March 6th, 2012 and Silent Hill: Downpour will be trickling in shortly after on March 13th. It's behind you!

I will prob just get the HD collection in march. I am sorta OCD about playing games in chronological order so im going to have to fly through Orgins, 1 and Shattered Memories first. I also have to pick up the collecters edition of Mass Effect 3 for the GF, so money will be tight that month.

@10 - Kind of, yes. The town of Silent Hill is large and open. You also enter buildings a lot of the time. The town is kinda like an overworld.

I'd buy SH3 on XBLA. HD Collection will have to wait though. There's no legitimate reason to buy two games I still own on PS2 and can play whenever I want. Granted, I own all the SH games, but I'd be more interested in an HD Collection if I could play all the PS2 games in one collection (4 games), or if SH1 was on it as well. This just seems silly as a 'collection'. Should be called HD Pair.

Will eventually get, but not for full price.

@#6 - Do your eyes magically only see the 3rd screenshot? Or do you really not remember what PS1 games look like and anything that isn't glitstening is clearly PS1?

I thought "Silent Hill 3 HD" read "Silent Hill 3D"... I got pretty excited, SH is one of those games I would love to play in 3D. *sigh*

Looks good though, buying both day one!

@12 Yes, it is a disc release.

@5: Do not play Silent Hill: Origins or Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, you do not want to do that to yourself. Especially if you have never played a Silent Hill game. I would recommend playing it in actual order and play Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2 and then Silent Hill 3. Silent Hill 3 is a direct sequel to the original Silent Hill whereas Silent Hill 2 is kind of a standalone title.

@13: I would love for them to bring the original Silent Hill to the 360/ PS3 with achievements/ trophies. I don't care if it would look awful in HD, if it would look so awful in HD then don't do it in HD and just bring the game out in all its original glory.

If not for Silent Hill 2's symbolism, plot, character development and about two puzzles, Silent Hill would be by far my favorite Silent Hill game.

@#15 - I actually liked Origins and Shattered Memories.

Origins was a decent game, the only problem was that Travis's story really felt like they were too busy trying to make it tie in with SH1 and Alessa. The game should've had Alessa on the backburner and focused more on Travis to make him more interesting. Basically, it felt like they had some good ideas and just didn't know what to do because they forced all the Alessa stuff into it, so it felt like there was no focus in the story. Just Travis walking from place to place for no reason.

Shattered Memories is only really good on the Wii, since it was built for it and to take advantage of the controls. PS2/PSP version loses a lot with the normal controls. I loved the story and that was enough to get me through it. The game is short and the 'nightmare' sections are kinda useless, so it isn't a traditional SH game by any means, but I still like it for what it is, which is a re-imagining.

@#5 - Heads up:
- SH0 only loosely ties to SH1. It's a good game, but you're not really going to learn or miss anything by playing/not playing it that you won't learn in SH1.
- SH1 and SH3 connect to each other through Heather and Harry, but other than that, you don't need to play SH1 first. You'll just appreciate SH3 more after doing so. Halfway through, Heather summarizes SH1.
- SH2 is a disconnected story. SH4 has a few references, but they don't actually connect beyond one character's name being in SH2 and one character being related.
- Shattered Memories is a re-imagining of Silent Hill 1, but it is not exactly the same story and is not part of the main canon, and is not even the same kind of game. I love SHSM, but it's not imperative that you play it in order to enjoy SH2 or 3.

In fact, I feel like you'd enjoy Shattered Memories *more* if you played SH1 and SH3 first, because there are references to both (as well as a vague reference to SH2 in the one ending).

@#5 Silent Hill are actually great games in their own right. not much connecting them other then actual city and small connection between 1 and 3. I loved all of them so far and whil the story does get a little predictable at times, you still can't help but be amazed at the twists they throw at you towards the end of each game=)

I will pick up Downpour on day one, but have others on PC, so I'll pass.

Both games shown look amazing! Downpour looks like its gonna freak me out. Can't wait! Still think "Collection" is an odd title to give it. Only 2+3? What is wrong with 1+4? I love all 4 Silent Hill games, and would have played all them again.

@#22 - Personally, SH3 has always been my favorite game in the series, and has always looked way better than most of the other games in the series.

It is graphically better than SH2 (obviously) and definitely Origins and Shattered Memories.

To be fair though, Origins was a PSP game that was just converted and retextured. And Shattered Memories really has no excuse, but I guess because the whole game is one streaming world with like no loading, so the graphics took a stab.

SH4, despite being pretty retarded, also looks amazing.

But man, SH3 aged beautifully. HD nothing. It still looks amazing on the PS2.

@23: I really loved Silent Hill 3, it was grotesque in every single way with the images, the monsters and just everything. Vincent is probably one of my favorite characters of any game. But Silent Hill 2 will always be better in my opinion for the symbolism and the plot.

Silent Hill 3 is miles beyond even Silent Hill: Homecoming. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories can at least say it was on the Wii, Silent Hill: Homecoming was on the 360, PS3 and the PC which shows how lazy the developers were.

Silent Hill 4: The Room wasn't awful in my opinion, it just shouldn't have been a Silent Hill game. It had some good ideas, but most of the good ideas got thrown away when people noticed that it was a Silent Hill game.

That last screenshot shouldn't be funny to me but I'm looking at it and I just have to laugh. "Hey." "Sup, guys?" "Nothing much. Foggy out." "Yeah, really."

Anyway, I still think a PSN voucher for Silent Hill should be included with the HD "collection" but I'm getting both of these either way. Can't wait.

I wonder if the HD collection will come with the soundtracks? I remember Silent Hill 3 and 2 (I think part 2) came with the soundtracks. Cant wait for the games, I kinda wish there was a collectors edition with all the games : / that would be amazing..silent hill 8 + hd collection + a Pyramid head statue.

@15, 18 and 20.
I actually own all the silent hill games already and have actually started all of them but only finished Homecoming and the 1st one. I know sharrered memories is not canon but i will take your advice and play it after i have done 3. My plan is to to play them all by the end of the year. I think i will be doing them in this order
Origins,1,3,2,4,HC,DP,SM then end it reading the Comic series.
Thanks for the advice

Does anyone know if Silent Hill HD has the Extras from relentless dreams (i think thats what its called)

@#27 - I sure hope it has Restless Dreams/Born from a Wish. That would be absurd if it didn't.

@#24 - Well, SH4 wasn't supposed to be Silent Hill, but then near the end, they were like "let's just make it SH since we can", but was supposed to be its own thing. So yeah, I like SH4, but it's not much of an SH4.

As for SH2 and 3, I think SH2 has a better plot and symbolism, but I liked the characters and world in SH3 more. I also liked the story a lot because Heather was a believable character and her relationship with her father made me care more than I cared about James finding Mary.

I like James, but he's an oblivious asshole. Although that's WHY I like him.

And yeah. SH3 looks better than quite a few current gen games, honestly.

The fog in SH: Downpour is really badly done. Looks awful compared to Alan wake. I wasn't paying attention to which shots were from which game and actually thought the second screenshot was from one of the PS2 games. Then when the fog has gone it looks alright.

Oh and am I the only one annoyed at all these 'collections' being incomplete? Seriously why not include SH: Shattered Memories on here? For the MGS:Hd collection why not include MGS: The Twin Snakes? Both series have remakes of the first game that would look great in HD.

Can't wait for HD Collection, but Downpour looks absolutely awful. With no more Team Silent, and Akira Yamaoka no longer doing the music, Silent Hill is officially dead to me.
