View author's profile

Like Soul Calibur IV before it, Soul Calibur V will be getting DLC support with a load of customisation items for your created historical pugilists (or freakish fighters) and some additional bombastic orchestral tunes to frame your scavvy ring out victories and clanging clashes of steel.

There'll be three DLC packs to start you off, with the first one coming on February 3rd before another two follow up later in the month. There's not just extra costume pieces, but there's classic music from Soul Calibur I, II, and III, Soul Blade (AKA Soul Edge) and Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny too. Here be the deets:

Pack 1: Launch Day February 3rd - 160 Microsoft Points

  • Nine exotic customisation items including bikinis, wings and face paints
  • Original music from Soul Blade and SOULCALIBUR (tracks also available individually for €0.99 or 80MS points)

Pack 2: Valentine’s Day February 14th - 160 Microsoft Points

  • Nine fearsome customisation items including breast plate, kimono and animal heads
  • Original music from SOULCALIBUR II and III  (tracks also available individually for €0.99 or 80MS points)

Pack 3: February 28th - 160 Microsoft Points

  • Nine exclusive customisation items including mask, face paint, camouflage and skull
  • Original music from SOULCALIBUR IV and SOULCALIBUR: Broken Destiny (tracks also available individually for €0.99 or 80MS points)

Soul Calibur V will be stepping back onto the stage of history on January 31st in North America and February 3rd in Europe.

I won't do this again. SC4 pulled the whole "leave content off disc to do a download key" thing, and it looks like that's what's happening this time, too. Maybe I'll get SC5 sometime in the future, but they lost my release day sale.

Hopefully, none of these DLCs will be necessary for the changing BGM achievement.

i wish for once they would include every piece of equipment included within the game. I mean, we are already paying for the disc. therefore we should get the content of the disc to 100%. At this rate it seems we're getting 98% of the game for regular price, and have to get the remaining 2% by purchasing extra keys. Bummer.

Seems like the DLC is geared towards lonely horndogs.

I feel insulted by how the industry sees their costumers... I mean, customers.

Soooooo they don't find this the least bit insulting that they are releasing DLC moments after they release the game?

A month or so later, ok. I get it. But on launch day? Really?

Fuck you.

More worth it than SC4's attempt at selling you JUST music or JUST costume items for just as much, but still obviously on-disc DLC that they're just tossing out for lulz and a few bucks.

I mean, $6 isn't that terrible for 27 customization items and a bunch of songs from across the entire series, but even still.

Guess I gotta see what songs/items, but probably skipping this stuff, like any logical person would.

whats with all these thumbs down crap. i seriously wish this site would remove the thumbs crap!

as for DLC, 2 things here. DLC is planned well in advance before release date. this is due to lack of time to fit it in before release.

it is also why i dont like DLC. i would rather get GOTY edition instead.

@23 & 24 I don't think its a matter of people whining just look of some recent examples of on disk DLC GoW3 Batman: Arkham City among others. Its not that the DLC for SC is expensive on the contrary its cheap but the fact that the content is on the disc already and were basically paying extra money for what we already bought and its becoming more and more common in order for companies to combat used games sales.

this dlc actually seems pretty reasonable to me, its all fairly cheap and people who don't want to buy dlc aren't really missing out on much.
I'll probably get them for the music, because personally i find customising charecters to be too much effort, I'd rather they just had a sword called "the best attack sword" etc. so i didn't have to fanny around trying to work out which items have the best stats.

@3,12 I sure 5 has heard of jokes before, i feel you're the one who doesn't understand jokes, fyi traditionally jokes are funny

I don't quite believe the music tracks are part of any 160 points DLC considering ONE of these tracks is 80 points already. Sounds to me more like a miscommunication. 160 Points for the CaS parts and a lot more for the music.

Heres a thought for everyone bitching about DLC being on the disc... Game developers and publishers can do whatever the fuck they want... its their game... if they feel that what they are releasing day one is a complete experience then thats their choice... if you dont like them "keeping things from you that you already paid for" then dont fucking buy the game... dont buy it, dont buy the DLC, and dont bitch about how you are "getting cheated"... Im so tired of people thinking the industry is out to fuck them... sure they gotta make money but game makers make games for the gamers... if they didnt the industry wouldnt even exist... developers release shit DLC because PEOPLE BUY IT! If you truly want developers to stop then stop bitching about it and stop buying it!

@33 But.. it's just the fact that it's "DLC", Downloadable Content. Whats the point in even calling it DLC when you have it on disc when you buy it? That's like taking the insoles out of a pair of shoes and then selling it to the consumer for an additional couple bucks and calling it new. Yeah, you could wear the shoes without the insoles, but they are made with the shoes, and come with the shoes. You shouldn't have to pay extra for the small parts just because the makers can make a quick buck off of it.

I'm tired of people bitching about things too, but its a bit of a dick move to include something on disc and call it "DLC" when you really aren't downloading it... At least tell it like it is and just say it unlocks extra content or something. Don't try to be shady about it and be like "Yeah this is TOTALLY new stuff that you are downloading."

I have no problem buy content that was already on the disc, but I do however have a problem with developers being shady about it.

i rather not...this is the worst soul calibur in the series...sc2 and sc4 was way better....sc5 has no game modes which killed it and the lame arcade mode/ time trial
