Gotham City Impostors Gets a Staggering 105 Pieces of Post-Launch DLC
Written By
View author's profile

Yes. You read that right. Gotham City Impostors will be launching tomorrow on the Xbox Live Arcade and already there's more than one-hundred pieces of downloadable content available for customising your Bats or Jokerz character, with basic items starting from 80 Microsoft Points, running the gamut all the way up to 320 Microsoft Points.

We spotted the items while doing our usual Xbox Live Markertplace update, where the add-ons line-up is currently swamped in Gotham City Imposters content. There's premium objects like Bats' cowls, capes and Jokerz shirts that'll set you back 240 MSP, and there's a myriad of other clothing items including face paints, pants, shoes, gloves, logos and the 'Naked Aggression' or 'Knight's Nest' Bats Shirt that'll cost you 320 MSP each.

The pricing seems a bit haphazard and doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense, but we're guessing that if you want to deck out your bespoke Gotham City Impostors characters in the best gear, it's going to cost you. You can check out the complete list of all 105 costume items on Xbox.com. Madness...

Gotham City Impostors is out on February 8th for 1200 Microsoft Points.

You can earn all the content in game. You can just pay MSP to unlock them early is all. Obviously the ones harder/longer to obtain, the steeper the price

@#4 No problem =] There is not any bundles that i know of =[

In case anyone was wondering, i have played the beta and you can 100% earn all items in game and if you click on the desired item without the right amount of coin, a screen appears and said that you can purchace the item early for MSP!

Sees pointless if you can unlock them all for free. By putting them for sale it also makes unlocking them pointless because other people will be running around in top gear on day one.

The items are all in the game already. This just unlocks them early because they made them expensive/hard to get in-game.

It's bad enough the game isn't really worth $15 to me, but for them to seriously try charging this much for stuff you can unlock naturally is just absurd.

I don't know why that's an option/why people buy those kinds of things. D: Like with Katamari. It's bad enough when they are charging for stuff that's just locked out, but buying stuff you can get naturally? Ugh.

It's took up pretty much all the Add-On Marketplace on the dash, just like RockBand does. Wish they wud put it in one section rather then spreadin it out, makes it harder to find anythin else.

This doesn't seem much different from Team Fortress 2's current sales model, except that Gotham City Impostors is $15 for the base game. Still, the beta really struck some of the right chords with me; I'm seriously considering getting it.

Stupid. People should have to earn it. But the world is full of people that like taking the easy way out. Kudos to WB for knowing how sad the gaming public is.

This will be sneaky in-game, because now there will be people who are good enough to unlock the rarer items, and people who simply bought them.

You'll have no idea what you're dealing with!

I was flipping through the DlC for this on the dashboard and started adding it up in my head, which due to the MSP exchange rate got a little confusing, and it's over $206 of content. I was glad to come on here and see that it's all attainable via game unlocks but it's still ridiculous. I mean even the whore that is Electronic Arts sells you "Unlock all item" shortcut packs for around ten to fifteen bucks. I don't like how much space it takes up in the add-on section of the store either, almost all 100 spots.

Lastly for any of you who haven't purchased a multiplayer only shooter for the XBLA, be warned and be careful, in a month there will probably be about 70 people playing this worldwide, a month later probably around 12.

To the people saying that it's pointless to release these items for sale when they're unlockable in the game, I strongly suggest giving the matter two seconds of actual thought instead of posting a dumbass knee-jerk comment.

It may seem pointless from the gaming side of things, but for Microsoft, Monolith, and Warner, it makes perfect sense. It's all about making more money, and whoever whines about "greedy" companies is absolutely stupid. If people are willing to pay for these items instead of earning them in the game, the three previously-mentioned companies certainly should be there to take that money. I'm actually a bit surprised that this type of thing isn't done far more often.

@21 no amount of thought is going to make this seem reasonable. my problem isn't the business side its the consumer. i hope people don't buy this stuff because it leads to the next game having no unlockable content and forcing you to pay for these things.

you nailed it #13. I don't know why they flood the already annoying dashboard with this crap. when there actually is addon's for games they are sometimes lost and if you aren't keeping up on whats expected each week, you could easily miss stuff between all the rock band and kinect crap each week.

The "gear" has no stats, so dont worry about that. But in the beta it said that you can buy weapon nd mod unlocks instead of earning them.

I hate that people are complaining about the dlc though. I've played this game, its gonna be what $20? Fair price. They offer items for $1-$5 for any one that wants to spend the money but they still let you unlock it by playing the game. So whats the problem? They are catering to hardcore and casual gamers and thats fine. If you need to start out day one with five custom loadouts and all the weapons that doesnt bug me at all, I can wait and rack up kills just like I did in the beta.

Also you unlock weapon mods quickly and earn exp even if you loose, if you cap a point you get exp, you get a kill exp, compleate a feat exp. You unlock things by leveling up. Being able to buy these things wont unbalance the game, so if your not going to buy these things dont worry about it.

@#31 That will neve happen. They push out a game with a full story, why cant you just be happy with that? Also That has nothing to do with this game, Monolith didnt make AC, so they cant make DLC for a game they didnt work on.

@38 The PC version has 1000G just like Section 8. Some Steam users are already confirming it as well, I just want to buy it through Xbox.com as at least I'll get 5% MSP back from Xbox Rewards, while I'll get nothing from Steam.

It was a sea of Yellow and Black when I went to the Add-ons section yesterday. Makes a change from seeing the Rock Band Boxart for once I suppose, although they need to sort out shit like this, so it doesn't happen in the future. As i've mentioned recently on here, a sub folder or something similar is needed.
I thought that's what the Rock Band, Guitar Hero & Lips Store Apps were for?

It can all be unlocked in the game through simply playing. Also to those saying people can pay and have 'top gear' on day 1, that's not the case. From what I played of the beta the weapons and equipment just allow for different playstyles, as opposed to being 'better'.

Oh damn, I thought they put out lots of first week DLC out. I would've been happy once I got the game.

This reminds me of a couple of games, mainly recently WWE games where you can download an unlocks pack to automatically in the game. Where it's useful in those games, I rather just play this game and unlock the stuff for it for free.

IMO since they were already lazy as hell as far as creativity goes in apparel if you have the money to blow for this you should get both Jokerz and Bats for the same piece of gear purchase. (example: Penalty Boxer gloves and Slap Happies are the exact same pair of gloves just different faction and so they should come in a pack 2 for 1)

Just sayin.

knowing you can earn it in the game is nice to know. although they are still running the dlc scam here it seems. they are still asking ppl to pay to just unlock something. im still not getting the game. i decided not to support it at all because of the gross amount of dlc they are selling. what happened to the good old days in gaming? is it just all about the money and greed nowadays? i wont be a gamer much longer if this trend continues. and i am not poor btw i just have principles is all.

also @21 i totally disagree with that comment. it is greed. everyone is greedy to a certain extent but this is ridiculous. and for you to say that they should do this cause the ppl are stupid enough to buy it is just wrong. i dont know what country your from but i am from america and i believe the goverment of the united states should protect these ppl from these kind of corpoate practices. the government is built to protect the ppl in a democracy and these corporations should have a responsibility to know better. i have a feeling that eventually the government will change its policies in regards to what these companies are allowed to do in the future but for now i guess we have to deal with it. and coming from someone like me who spent 5 years of his life working and fighting for the ppl (some of whom may fall in your "stupid" category), i find your comment offensive.
