Rockstar: "Don’t Count Out the Possibility of a New L.A. Noire"

Answering a number of Max Payne 3, Grand Theft Auto and LA Noire related questions on its News Wire site today, Rockstar has declared that despite the closure of LA Noire developer Team Bondi, the franchise is still something that's very much on the company's radar and could return in the future.

"While there won’t be any more DLC or additional content for the current release of L.A. Noire (we’re all too busy working on Max Payne 3, GTAV and other games to come), don’t count out the possibility of a new game in the L.A. Noire franchise in the future. We simply have not decided anything," reads the News Wire post. "We don’t always rush to make sequels, but that does not mean we won’t get to them eventually – see Max and Red Dead for evidence of that – we have so many games we want to make and the issue is always one of bandwidth and timing."

In the article, Rockstar also talk a little more about Grand Theft Auto V, promising more details on the massive sequel in the next few months or so. It'll also be the "largest and most ambitious open world game we’ve ever created…" according to Rockstar.

"As we revealed in our announcement about the game being officially in full development, Grand Theft Auto V is set in the city of Los Santos and its surrounding hills, countryside and beaches – and it will be the largest and most ambitious open world game we’ve ever created…"

  • Fix the issues with the game and I'd be fine with that. And by issues, I mean everything about the game.
  • A new la noire would be good but I can't wait for Gta v
  • YES! Best news EVER! I know a lot of people hated this game, but I really loved it, one of my most favourite games of all time.
  • That would be great ! such a great game.
  • @2 what you talking about willis? seriously though L.A Noire is a revolutionary game, granted at times it felt like they were just showing off the technology rather than creating a great game, but the way all three storylines meet at the end more than saves it. And they really sshould have put in more cases where you can actually get the right guy LOL.
  • Grand Theft Auto V is only Los Santos? Hope it's a re-imagining of the original San Andreas map to make it bigger.
  • That is definitely good news. I loved L.A. Noire and was disappointed when I heard about Team Bondi closing. Another L.A. Noire would be a definite buy for me.
  • Honestly I dont really care much about it been a crazy massive map, so long as its full of life and things to do unlike, just cause 2
  • yet another post, I thought another la noire was already been made, called whore of the orient or something
  • Love LA Noire! I can certainly appreciate a game like this. Make another one Rockstar and I'll buy it day one.
  • @10 - That's Brendan McNamara's next project. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/news/news-10213-L-A--Noire-Dev-s-New-Game-Called-Whore-of-the-Orient.html
  • It was ok but nothing special
  • @4 I agree! It was the historical context, love that era, paired with the details in the various cases that really made it memorable for me :) I like the attitude that Rockstar having valuing sequels but not wanting to rapidly pump them out, gives a sense of them getting real enjoyment from developing their games.
  • I would love to see a new LA Noire. The game had a few problems with it, but I thought it was a very unique and engrossing game. I would be interested to see where Rockstar goes with it if they decide to keep the franchise going.
  • have valuing their sequels*
  • L.A. Noire was one of the most engrossing games i have ever played and had great stories, however the main story ending was one of the worse i have seen in a game. It really seems to me that they put so much time into the facial tech that the other area's suffered, for example the city was empty and lifeless, no side missions, forgettable characters, bad ending, rubbish soundtrack (could have used alot better music from that era) etc etc
  • L.A. Noire was a game that aimed higher than any game I think has ever done. They missed the mark (cases were too easy and short, not a lot to do outside of the missions, disjointed narrative, goofy main character, etc.) but the idea that you could feel the stress and self-doubt of police work WORKED, at least on a couple of the cases. The technology also absolutely worked. The motion capture of L.A. Noire needs to be the standard for all AAA title games from now on. A sequel that builds and expands on all the great things about the game could be something that truly challenges movies as the art form of our times. They can even use the same city map for all I care. There was enough of it that I never saw anyway.
  • YES!
  • I loved LA Noire. A sequel would be interesting. I'm thinking less of a typical sequel and something more like a spiritual successor; maybe a modern investigative game? You could still set it in LA, it'd be interesting.
  • Miami (Vice) 'Noire' please! The 80's are awesome!
  • @1 you failed buddy.....
  • @18 i agree that the tech worked, however the tech still adds a hell of a lot of data to the game which is why LA Noire was on 3 discs on xbox, if all future AAA games used the facial tech then all future AAA would be 3+ discs for the rest of this xbox consoles lifespan. They should certainly use it on Xbox 720 games though if they are to be pressed on blu ray discs.
  • How about a new Warriors game or a HD re-make? I CAN DREAM!! :p
  • Its good to see Rockstar have evolved from the one trick pony that is GTA to some of the most respected games in my eyes. LA Noire, Red Dead Redemption and most probably Max Payne 3.
  • Oh, and don 't make the next main character a moralizing hypocrite. I didn't spend $60 to play as a Republican.
  • I think i speak for everyone when i say we NEED another R* table tennis game.... or not.
  • @24 Jack isnt though and he is better than Phelps anyway, the Nazi shagging prick.
  • Give us Bully 2 and Manhunt 3
  • Did they just let a red dead sequel slip through this? he was referring to max and red dead as games they are making sequels to, unless i missed an article
  • Can't wait for GTA:V
  • No thanks. Still puzzled as to why I bought that game, and clueless as to why I also wasted $10 on the dlc. Never played it and never finished the main game. I believe the kids on Twitter would sum it up by saying #boring
  • I am playing through LA Noire for the first time currently and have to say, in my opinion its easily one of the best games of the generation. My buddy was watching me and said it would be cool if they applied the game mechanics to a different time period or setting, and I agreed. Wouldn't it be cool to play as the detectives that went after Jack the Ripper? Or, how about a detective working for the Border Patrol, working cases related to officer deaths, drug rings, etc. The possibilities are kinda endless!
  • L.A. Noire was awesome!
  • I really enjoyed LA Noire. Okay, something about it was little off. I can't place my finger on it but it felt not quite right. However, in general it is a great game, and at the very least a great first attempt at doing something a little bit out there and different from the norm.
  • That sucks! L.A. NOIRE wasn't even that good! Red Dead R was one of my favourite games! They need to make new an sandboxes, i new settings. For example - Japan - Tenchu style, but 10 times better! 18th Century England! So many unexplored areas of time! That's why I don't really care that much for GTA'S and COD's.
  • @2 please explain yourself. It's easy just to say something sucks but not give a reason, which makes you look like an idiot. LA noire 2 ? Great, but I wanna see a bully 2!
  • LA Noire is one of my favourite games, I hope they do a proper sequel, with new (better) management the game can turn out so much better.
  • Not until it's a major improvement over the first one which in my opinion had done bad or downright ruined almost everything that was supposed to be innovative and original.
  • L.A. Noire got kind of repetative but I still had a ton or fun with it and i'd definetly buy the sequel day one if the do end up making it, same goes for another entry into the Red Dead franchise. Looking forward to GTA V as well, I just hope that they bring back more vehicle options like they had in San Andreas. They had a decent variety of cars in IV but there was only 1 helocopter, a boat or two and no airplanes if I remember correctly
  • Rockstar's alright in my book... but LA Noire wasn't anything that I expected. I was bored out of my mind by the fourth homicide case, and never advanced from it. (Not to mention that I never knew that vibration actually helped you out in the game, since I always have it OFF to conserve battery life.) However: if they can address the many underwhelming features of the first, then I would gladly give the second game a chance. :)
  • Dammit Rockstar! Only Los Santos?! GTAV going to be just like GTAIV then. I'm guessing there'll be no car customization, jet packs, purple dildos, hydras, brown thunder, random mayhem, gambling, and about every thing else that was fun about San Andreas. A lot of my buds don't like San Andreas because of CJ but they don't visit this site so I can say that they are a bit racist. San Andreas is superior. No San Fiero or Las Venturas or definitely going to sour the game for me. I'll buy day one still but I don't think I'll like it as much as I hope. There better at least be trailer trash.
  • LA noire was awesome. GTA V will be more of the same crap they've been doing for years. it just gets old
  • This should just wait for the next generation anyway. I don't think anyone is clamoring for this now, and the power of next gen could open up a lot of neat possibilities considering the realism of the first game.
  • @30 I would be happy with a HD- remake of the first manhunt. Still to this day one of the few games that freaked me out playing in the dark.
  • @#44 Well I wouldn't say it is really the same. GTA III-GTA Vice City Stories (never played Chinatown Wars) had a mix of over-the-top action, gritty crime/mafia/gang story, with a huge dose of humor. They weren't quite as goofy as Saint's Row but they were just as over-the-top in their own way. With GTAIV they really abandoned all that in favor a more seriuos criminal drama setting. There was humor in GTAIV and it's add-ons but nothing that really made me doing anything more than chuckle. The gameplay also felt more sim like. I really disliked having to keep kissing my friends' asses to keep on their good side.
  • That's good I got sweet 1400G for LA Noire so I don't mind to see LA Noire 2 next 4 to 6 years. Glad GTA V and Max Payne 3 on way sooner and other new game that they haven't told us yet for what new title is!! M A X P A Y N E 3!!!
  • anything from Rockstar is amazing so bring them all on. i would love a new L.A. Noire though, cause i felt like i got the 1400/1400 so quick, but yet it was so fun in the process. i cant wait to get my hands on Max Payne, cause that was my favorite game back when it first came out.
  • Come on la Norie was way better than gta
  • I enjoyed noire but it just felt soooo repetitive at times. Same exact moves and same exact interrogations with differents words and surroundings. Like watching an entire season of a tv show in one night.
  • Stoked. Looking forward to a new Noire and Red Dead game more than anything else from Rockstar. GTAV I don't know enough about and I still need to actually finish the other Max Payne titles (don't own Max Payne 1, lol). Rockstar easily became one of my favorite company after I got both Red Deads and L.A. Noire (and I always did like GTA titles, just never owned them).
  • How about making the next LA Noire NOT make your fucking system crash even after you clear the cache and do all that other bullshit?
  • New LA Noire? If I want an old school point and click adventure game with new graphics, and I do, I'll wait to see what Tim Schafer's up to.
  • A few months for more GTAV info?!? D:
  • I got LA Noire in december, and can't believe I waited so long to get it. One of the best games I played last year, and the graphics were simply stunning. I for one hope that a new LA Noire game does get released, it would be a day 1 purchase for me. Shame that Team Bondi closed down though.
  • for me a game is made great by the mood it creates. la noire was one of the best. as soon as you start up this game you are pulled into it, the music and menu alone are incredible. they do a great job putting you into the setting. can it be matched? with rockstar there is always something to look forward to. it'd be nice to have this waiting when i'm done with gtav
  • LA Noire felt like a collection of great ideas, none of which were properly finished, all mashed together haphazardly. And I swear, that was my own impression of it when I played it start to finish, before the interview about the working conditions came out (which kinda supports that impression, one guy starts something, leaves the company, the next guy gets saddled with finishing it plus his own work, he leaves, the next guy gets both half finished jobs on top of his own, etc). It could've been great. If Rockstar properly devoted attention to a sequel, to the making of it, not just the publishing of it, then it could be legendary. LA Noire could've been legendary, Team Bondi could've made it their ticket to becoming Rockstar Sydney. They had all the right ingredients, but the project was grossly mismanaged, and that shows in the final product. It's a shame is what it is.
  • I'm absolutely in love with Rockstar at the moment. GTA V is going to be awesome, really excited for that. Max Payne 3 is looking and sounding excellent, I adored the first two. Now there may be an LA Noire 2?! My god, on behalf of the majority of people, thank you Rockstar.
  • I think L.A Noire is a pretty sweet game! I mean sure, its not perfect.. but its still a great game I haven't completed it yet I only rented it, but I do intend to complete this game.
  • I hope a new Midnight Club is amongst those other games that Rockstar want to do
  • Rockstar has got to be the best gaming company in the world! I fucking love u guys!!
  • LA Noire is a great game. I would love to see another LA Noire but maybe in another city. Chicago or New York would be cool but still pretty exciting if the game is gonna be real.
  • @31 Yes there will be a Red Dead sequel but they were referring to Red Dead Redemption being the (indirect) sequel of Red Dead Revolver.
  • No, stop making your goddamn maps bigger. The worst part of GTA IV, RDR, and LA Noire was having to drive everywhere. You don't need maps that big if there's only going to be like ten places you need to go to regularly.
  • Good news, how about Chicago during the 1920s?
  • Great news no more DVD interactive movies what a bore....GTA V and RDR2 stick with what sells.....and no i didn't buy it, i had enough friends who where disappointed with L.A. Noire....
  • "We don’t always rush to make sequels, but that does not mean we won’t get to them eventually" Bully would like a word with you.
  • Hope they make a second one down the line, enjoyed the game thought it was a very good game. cant wait to hear me some yummy news on GTA!
  • this is the best news i have heard in a while LA noire was easily my GOTY last year so a sequel would be much appreciated
  • yes! more LA Noire please... just keep team bondi far,far away from it!
  • I personally loved LA Noire. I'd be so stoked for a new one!
  • oh i wish they would make another one. i loved the first one.
  • I loved the game and I think it would be best if they didn't make another one.
  • To anyone who already said Manhunt 3, I completely agree.
  • great game, loved it. They should definitly make a second one
  • i wish this game would have been so much longer. as much detail as was in this game and as great as it was, I was hoping for 100 hr game, not a 20 hr game. and i was hoping for lots of dlc but that didnt happen either. if they do make a new noire game, hopefully it doesnt take 7 years like this one did
  • Yes!! another L.A Noire would be great! Can't wait. :]
  • Yes! I finally finished the game today and I think I really fell in love with it on the last chapter. The way everything just fell into place was incredible. I really do hope that they make a sequel.
  • i would love a new LA Noire i was a gorgeously brilliant game!
  • Be nice to see a sequel but in another city like Chicago,NYC,London also GTAV looks good they say that about every new GTA game "this game will be the biggest area to explore yet" and I'll admit San Andreas was big I mean yo could ride on highways from the city and into small white trash towns they did it amazing on that,GTA4 is amazing too more personal and in urban sprawling setting liberty city (obviously a NYC version)
  • Seriously, this is some of the best news I've read in some time. If they do make a sequel, I will definitely be one of the first to get it. Meanwhile, I'll still be on my AC3 run.
  • I WANT A NEW LA NOIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVED THIS GAME!!!!!
  • But i Hope there will be a New L.A. Noire! Its really great, i love the graphics
  • Honestly, I'd love to see LA Noire 2. But with Jack Kelso as the main character (for obvious reasons if you played through the story) they (Team Bondi) already set it up quite nicely for a sequel.
