R18+ Rating Could Hit Australia Next Year

The Australian government could introduce a mature rating for games as early as Jan 1st, 2013.
For years the Australian government has only classified games up to MA15+, suitable only for people over the age of 15. More violent or controversial games, meanwhile, have received either content cuts, changes or just outright bans.
However, a new bill was introduced to the Australian parliament’s Lower House earlier this month, with the legislation for an R18+ category prepared by the Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Justice, Jason Clare.
Further discussions are expected soon, with the expectation that the bill will pass with ease, thanks to the weight of public support. Australia's individual territories will be free to implement their own legislation.
"The R 18+ category will inform consumers, parents and retailers about which games are not suitable for minors to play, and will prevent minors from purchasing unsuitable material" said Clare.
Looks like Aussies might get Syndicate after all. Better late than never, eh?
