UFC Undisputed 3
This Week's UK X360 Top 20 Charts

Wallop! UFC Undisputed 3 pinned Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning to the ground and punched it right in the face last week, muscling its way to the number one spot.

Rightly so, too. Our own Rich Walker enjoyed the fighter, saying "UFC Undisputed 3 remains unchallenged as the king of the MMA genre." You can’t really argue with that.

Indeed, such was the Reckoning's beat down that it slumped all the way from first to eighth, a dramatic comedown for the craftsmanlike RPG. Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection suffered similarly, dropping out of the top ten to eleventh from fourth.

Conversely, Kinect Sports had a brilliant week, sprinting all the way from 35th to 15th. Impressive stuff for the enduring run-on-the-spot-em-up.

@6

Why is it that whenever people make comments like this, they never have a single Kinect product on their gamertag.

And Catherine is gone. I really don't know why publishers such as Deep Silver even bother if people are so unwilling to try something different. Such a brave and original game, I was really hoping that it would stay in the charts a bit longer than one week. I will probably get flamed for this... but you could play a new fighting or shooting game every day of the year. How often do you get to be involved in the troubles of a man cheating on his girlfriend? How often do we get brilliant characters and incredible dialogue? How often do we get a game which can make you feel something very strongly? Next to never. And if this keeps up, we'll get such games less and less, and then not at all. But, of course, not much can be done about it really, because there is also nothing wrong with liking more of the same. It is not as if people have to like and buy something just because it is original and different. Argh... internal conflict!

@8 how dare you talk sense on a Monday morning.

I got a few arsey private messages off a DS employer/Site mod last week for the same style of comments and asked about their obligations to provide us with information as to why it was so poorly distributed. Better watch yourself!

The fact is it’s a massive lose because it truly was an excellent though mind bendingly(made up word for the day) hard game. And above all original. Who remembers that word?

Vincent for character of the year.

@8, 9

At some point, a lack of advertising must hold some of the accountability for a game not doing well. Look at Atlus games. If it wasn't for internet word of mouth, they wouldn't have the cult following that they do. Same when Deathsmiles came over here. And Catherine, for whatever charm it has (I do not have it yet, nay), I didnt know anything about besides the tidbits of information that trickled out online.

Heck, theres more advertising for terribad things like The Cartel than there is for unique titles like Catherine. I know the pubs see it as a risk to bother throwing ad money at wacky offbeat titles like that, but if they dont try, John Q Public is going to see it as nothing more than bargain bin fodder.

@8,9 Honestly Catherine needs a demo in Europe plus more advertisement.

But next to that it's a niche product. If the game was about the subjects it is set in an adventure type game it would be different. I for one do not enjoy the block puzzles one bit. Seeing as that is the core gameplay the story might be interesting as hell but the puzzles and their difficulty require you to be really into it. If your not Catherine isn't for you, or in this case me.

Has nothing to do with me just buying shooters, I am all for originality in games. Heck I haven't bought a FPS in over a year and apart from Gears 3 not a single shooter for over 6 months. But still Catherine is just not for me. I on the other hand don't get why not more people played El Shaddai, which I found to be truelly unique and entertaining. And it does bother me that games like Catherine, El Shaddai or even Rayman Origins sell not even 10% combined of a game like CoD.

But simple fact is the more you go away from generic settings the smaller your audience will be, afterall that's why things become generic, because majority is into it.

@15 Two words come to mind, the second word is off.

@20 I would but unfortunately I really didn't enjoy the demo.

I'm surprised UFC went to number one but well done.

zzz mma isn't a genre. its fighting games, of which ufc is meh. better than the last one to be fair, but still not an amazing game.
Kingdoms of Amalar was suprisingly not awful, much more deserving.
