Nailguns and flannel shirts at the ready, as Alan Wake's American Nightmare is now available to download from the Xbox Live Arcade, as part of the House Party promotion. Purchasing all four participating titles will snag you an 800 Microsoft Point rebate.

Featuring an all-new story in which Wake must chase down his dark and dangerous alter-ego Mr. Scratch, before he catches up to his wife, Alan Wake's American Nightmare is less Stephen King and Twin Peaks, and more Tarantino and old-skool grindhouse movies.

You can add Alan Wake's American Nightmare to your download queue here for 1200 Microsoft Points. Check out the launch trailer again below, if you haven't already.

Downloading it as we speak! Can't play it until tonight after work though, sadly.

I'm just glad that this got released. I hope this does well - the fact that the PC version of Alan Wake paid for itself in just 2 days is good news, too. I hope this franchise continues to grow, and we continue to get good games (preferably without multiplayer!)

Done. This is one of those few XBLA games that I won't even bother downloading the trial for. Straight to purchase.

@3 I hear you about downloading it but having to wait until this evening after work.

DL'd it this morning while getting ready. Will have to resist looking at gameplay vids on You Tube today. Really enjoyed AW and liked the two DLC chapters too. Would love for AW to become a major franchise with future additions.

The worst thing about Alan Wake was the combat, and now they've gone and increased it. :( Hopefully they've also improved the mechanics.. Gonna get the game anyway because I want to support Remedy.

@15 No, the worst part was the terrible character lip animations when they were speaking.

Here's hoping it's better now. Downloading now and excited to play! Can it be dark outside yet?

Played for an hour and the voice over is starting to grind.

"the champion of light was going to fight the prince of darkness but thought I'll have a sandwich and perhaps buy some postcards...". Shut up!!!!!

Also loved the trial "you've gotten far enough you've unlocked an achievement" unlocked the full game then walks in a garage and talks to a chick whose hair is a pixelated thatchwork mess.

So far the game is a blast. PROTIP FOR EVERYBODY: Go into game options immediately and set the HUD to "Fading." The default setting is ridiculously obtrusive and some people might not realize that that is the problem. Your welcome :P

Didn't even play the demo. Bought it immediately.

I would've been a little more apprehensive about buying a $15 game on day one (I swore not to, since they are never worth it anymore), but I had a crap ton of free points from Bing and being an Xbox Live Rewards member, so I only actually spent like $5 on it.

Having said that, I didn't get to play it yet because I downloaded it as soon as it came out and then went to sleep. Hahaha.

You do realise this is a 1.3 GB XBLA game, right?

I assume you've forgotten and are comparing it to fully fledged retail games which, ironically, is a testament to it's quality.

Best XBLA game I've played in a long time.

You best sit down fella and get ready for some major complaints my observation was one of mild amusement but I'll guarantee you by the weekend there will be a laundry list of complaints.

It's 1.3GB? It's an arcade game? How very fucking observant. So these things together mean that something I have bought mean I can't complain about it?

Okay then couple hours in start getting massive slow down I mean there I was trying to pick up ammo, but now you mention the 1.3 GB that explains that. I mean the processing power alone for that type action in a game no arcade game is going to handle picking up ammo in a building with no enemies about.

So I really shouldn't complain about the juddering and again near stop in game play when 4 enemies chased me down the street.

Oh wait... That's right ive actually bought the game so you know what? I'll say what the fuck I want about it. 1200 points is a PREMIUM title on arcade and graphically this does not stand up as a premium title. I loved Alan Wake, and I am enjoying American Nightmare. But for a game that has as much hype behind it, it's flawed.

Bottom line is if you like Alan Wake, you'll like this. If you want to see more Alan Wake games but it at full price and support Remedy.

@25 1200 points does not make it a premium title on arcade. There are many 1200 points arcade titles that really aren't worth it. Also graphically the game looks pretty good for an arcade title it is almost on par with the original. I understand everyone has different opinions on things but I don't understand how you can't see that this looks better than most game on the arcade. Also you complained about the game slowing down and juddering, I hope you aren't confusing that with the graphics, because you gave no details on why the graphics don't stand up as a "premium title"

@25 Also grow up, the person you replied to didn't use any foul language at all, try to be civil when presenting an argument.

On Topic I played the arcade mode for a bit, loved it. The combat is more responsive and the game looks great. Gonna start start the story once I get back from the comics store.

I bought it, finished the story and loved it. Although the frame rate did bog down a bit a few times, it's a very minor flaw. Some of the voice acting is terrible, but I would hope to believe it was planned that way...maybe?

Either way, well worth the money. I've bought much worse games on the XBLA (*cough* AMY *cough*) so I'm happy with this buy.

Bought it and have played a bit. It's really quite different from the first Alan Wake, which is disappointing--but at the same time, its really up there for an XBLA game.

@25 I know everyone has there opinions but I don't see how you can slag this game of so much. I've had no or no noticable drop in frame rate and the graphics look amazing for a game it's length considering how small of game it is(1.3GB). Another thing I would considering is the fact that this game runs this smoothly day one with no patches, how many top retail release's do we know that are released and there's a patch waiting.

That's not really slagging it off that much 3 maybe 4 issues at the time of posting. You are also correct everyone is entitled to their opinions. Hence what started as a slight dig at the developers for their choice of positioning the end of the trial developed into a minor rant about the game.

Anything selling on live for 1200 points is selling for the premium price(unless we are going to mention the 2 games that were sold for 1600)Frame rate drop and some dodgy patchwork on the graphics are two separate things.

There were quite a few times when I fired the flare gun and the camera followed the shot screen slowed down to a crawl, the camera ended up in the enemy. Whilst it reset the camera i took damage from an enemy.

Having now finished the story I'm not really happy with it either. I'm sure plenty will find the story clever or a good use of minimum resources(1.3GB) but it just felt lazy.

As for presenting a civil argument what can I say the thought that someone would seriously say I couldn't complain because its a 1.3GB arcade game kinda wore my goodwill for the day out.

That being said I just won 2100MSP so that's nice....

Ok I need to clarify something that for some reason is not told by the magical website that is Imdb.

I am seeing a lot of comments on different voice acting and it's making me worry a bit. To the people who have beaten or played this game, is the same voice actor that plays Alan Wake still playing his character?

@34, I'm almost positive all of the voice actors are the same--Alan Wake, Barry Wheeler, the Anderson Brothers, even the Night Springs narrator. I don't understand how the rumor of a change got started.

I don't know either and there is no way to actually check yet. But never the less if the voice acting is the same, I'm buying the game the next time I acquire 15 dollars.

Most of them sounded the same imo. It can't be the narrator either, because that's voiced by the same guy who voices Tor Anderson. Barry did sound a little "off" though, so it might be him. There are also some new characters in there, so it could be that.

Anyway, it was an easy 200G and I'll buy anything Alan Wake on release. I'll go back for the leaderboards later this year, I can't have my friends beating me now, can I? =P

Hopefully they bring this to the PC as well. Bought Alan Wake from Steam. It is an excellent game.
