New Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 Media Looks at Coins & Pins

In Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13, EA Sports has concocted more ways to play and improve your virtual golfing prowess, rewarding coins and pins that can be used and traded for a variety of unlockable bonuses and attribute boosts. You can earn coins by completing course objectives that you can then use to buy time to play on paid DLC courses, for instance.

Or you can complete all of the course objectives, earn coins and eventually unlock the DLC course to play in its entirety. Alternatively, you can spend your coins on pins that unlock bonuses and attribute boosts, from 'toddler Tiger' and plus points for your golfer to status points for your Country Club.

Check out the pair of new videos looking at the coins and pins features below, and 13 new screenshots in the gallery. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 is out on March 27th in North America and March 30th in Europe.

  • Definitely on board with the idea of getting access to the DLC courses for playing well in the game, smart move!
  • That sounds pretty interesting...
  • If it sounds too good to be true. Then it probably isn't true.
  • If this works the way the article says it will, it is a brilliant idea.
  • People actually praising a move by EA? My God the world is coming to an end...
  • So going by quick maths....500 coins a round, 6000 coins to unlock a playthrough.... 12 rounds needed to play 1 round on the DLC course. 80 greens in regulation as an objective means 5 rounds needed on the DLC course.... Means 60+ rounds to unlock each DLC course. Lot of golf needed to get the full selection for free, but great idea.
  • Great idea! Needs to happen with other games, FIFA etc.
  • @7. Ye if ur good enough to get the objectives in as little amount of play time as possible. Still really good idea.
  • I probably won't waste my time with this game. I don't like Tiger Woods, but the game was fun, until they introduced that DLC crap last year. Late in 2012 if I see it used for cheap(ish) then I'll get it.
  • What about those who get the collector's edition (like myself will be getting cause I grew up playing these games since 1995 and look forward to them every year). Does that mean the 6 additional courses we get with the collector's edition come unlocked or they going to give us enough coins to unlock the 6 courses. I myself think this is a great idea; however, with out actually having hands on yet, it seems quite confusing. Either way, looking forward to this game! Just hoping there aren't a lot of achievements having to due with joining a club, competing against a rival club etc... Like Fight Night introduced with Gyms.
  • It's an ok idea but it's not like you'll own the DLC once you use coins to unlock it, just renting it for one round is how i see it.
  • @#12 - I think you are missing the whole point. I believe the point is when you gather coins you can unlock a single playthrough on a DLC course. During that playthrough you need to meet as many course objectives as possible, similar to TW '12, reaching mastery level. However, you may need to unlock numerous single playthroughs to obtain all of the objectives (@#7). Once all of the objectives of are completed on the DLC Course, the course will remained unlocked for good. That's my perception.
  • NICE!
  • If done correctly..to where you gotta earn to get the DLC, I am actually ok w/it
  • Guess they realized how much they went overboard pricegouging on the last game's DLC. Damn near asking the full MSRP of the game over again.
  • Tiger Woods = Douche Bag
  • How about allowing us to upgrade courses from previous version. The old Links on computer used to allow you to do this every time there was a new version of the game released.
