The Amazing Spider-Man
The Amazing Spider-Man Spins its Web This June
Written Friday, February 24, 2012 By Richard Walker

With The Amazing Spider-Man movie swinging into cinemas this summer, it was obvious when the game was going to arrive too, but Activision has released a specific release date for the webslinger's latest movie tie-in foray, which in the past haven't turned out too badly on the whole. Well, Spider-Man 2 was a pretty fine game, anyway.

The Amazing Spider-Man will be launching on June 26th, ahead of the movie's debut in the multiplexes, with a menagerie of villains for Spidey to fight, including the big old grey horned one and human wrecking ball himself, the Rhino.

You can see Rhino in the new trailer and screenshots below, and expect more villain announcements in the run up to The Amazing Spider-Man's June 26th launch.

It will have a long way to go to reach the heady heights of Ultimate Spiderman from last gen. I thought that was far and away the best Spiderman game... Spiderman vs The Kingpin on the Master System ran it close though. Great photography mechanics that let you take photos of bosses and sell them in between levels to buy new equipment.

I'm sorry but regardless whether this game might be good or not...Rhino looks fucking stupid. He was always cooler with a suit.

The fact that he's an animal-human hybrid (like Lizard) makes it looks like there's some sort of pattern that started from a nuclear zoo disaster.

@7 Don't know where you have been.

Superman, Batman, Spiderman. If you ask people "name your favorite superhero" or "name 3 super hereos form the top of your head" you would probably get those 3 the most. Definitely not wolverine.

Back on topic: Rhino with two horns. What the fu.....just no.

@11 Rhino almost always has 2 horns in every design he's had - even in the 90s TV show and most of the comic book depictions...

@16 It depends on the storyline really. I can think of 2, maybe 3 story arcs where he did ;)

Although, what I was getting at was in the context of the universe, human/animal hybrids make up the vast majority of the characters as it's one of the conventions of the franchise.

Even Morbius the Vampire was the result of an accident with a Bat!

@17 Yes. I'm pretty sure that's quite obvious. But this is a game based on a movie, so that stuff is kind of irrelevant.

Just saying, in a movie where they decided to make the Lizard look so human, it just looks a bit silly to have Rhino an actual...well, Rhino.

@18 I may be wrong, but the screenshots of the movie I've seen show the Lizard as an actual Lizard too, abeit bipedal in stance.

I think that's what the idea is in the film.

I think the Rhinos design looks pretty sweet in the game. I don't know why people always want things to remain the same, that would get incredibly boring. Just pretend he has a line in between his face and the rest of his body BAM you have a suit.

I'm still iffy on this one. I am not a big fan of movie games (although I agree Spiderman 2 was pretty good). I like the comic based Spidey games more than the movie based. We will just have to see.

@ 9 - Really???? Almost everyone picks Wolverine as their immediate default "Liked" character. He's short but never backs down, practically immortal and a badass wisecracker. He's always been one of my personal faves. I dig on Bats for the lack of "powers" and basically being a tough genius. Spidey is identifiable on many areas with me plus he was one of the first super heroes to be recognized as a boy that wasn't a sidekick of some sort, i.e. Bucky and Robin.

OT: I'm going to check it out since the movie games actually have been rather enjoyable after the first one. The only real downers were Web of Shadows and it's drawn out "Acts", Friend or Foe for it's MUA Jr approach with little payoff and I haven't played it but Edge of Time isn't getting the praise Shattered Dimensions did. SD was great for a linear game but sat rigid in the realm of Spideys "Sandbox" career.

I love Beenox but I'm still immensely perturbed by the fact that even though movies take liberties with licensed properties, using "The Amazing" (Universe-616 )moniker in a world clearly built around "The Ultimate" universe (Universe-1610) is just annoying to a loyal fan.

@ 24 Ah yes but Deadpool's made quite the name for himself in that short time-span. Out of all the Marvel movies made, his upcoming spinoff is a huge staple to his career being Spiderman, X-Men, Iron Man, Hulk, etc have all been around since the 60's. Plus DP is one of the most unique characters in that he's

A) More of a neutral wild card anti-hero than good/bad guy
B) Breaks the 4th wall in knowing he's a comic book character
C) Had more encounters with every random sect/group/individual in the Marvel Multiverse (possibly if not as many as The Watcher)
D) Haunted by the possible existence of his own origins due to his sanity

Hell, he beat Taskmaster (who has a photographic memory) in hand to hand combat b/c he's so ridiculously unpredictable and random with his attacks.

@33/34 I dont exactly want to get into a long discussion where we show off our 'geek' as some sort of contest, but as much as you and teenagers everywhere may like Wolverine and Deadpool, you can't argue that they are anywhere near as well known or popular as the 'big three' of Batman/Superman/Spiderman.

There's a reason why these characters have countless movies/TV shows/Videogames/Halloween Outfits/Merchandise etc, it's because they are far and away the most iconic comic book characters out there.

Show 100 random people in the street an image of Deadpool, or Wolverine without his costume, and I bet half of them wouldn't have a clue.

However, just Bat's Cowl, or Supes' cape, or Spideys mask will be recognised by most if not all of them. Hell, they would probably recognise their alter egos before they knew Deadpool.

@ 35 - Ooh baby, you're speaking my flity-talk - Nerdery lol!! Also, no tweeny bopper here. Sporting the ripe young age of 29 =/

I half agree. Yes they're well known but that's b/c Superman AND Batman have been around since the 30's. They started in Action/Detective Comics so that's a no brainer. However, Wolverine has had his fair share of spinoffs as well. I mean, well over 50% of anyone you ask will be able to tell you where "Snikt!" and "Bub" were made famous.

Wolverine without the mask would still be vastly recognizable. His hair/facial features are dead giveaways as well as his posture.

The "Big Three" have just been established for nearly 100 years. The other two however deserve their credit for making such waves in their short time spans. Wolverine started out facing the Hulk. Ironically, these are two of the characters that would take the longest to determine a winner between as well. I've had tons of "What If" discussions about stuff like Supes vs Hulk, Bats vs Iron Man, Spidey vs Bats, etc. Love the theorizing on it.

And IMHO, I've always preferred Marvel over DC due to Marvel seeming more vibrant/bright/colorful and modern where DC has always been rather dark and "noir" in that 1930's back alley kind of feel.

@24 Deadpool will have been around for fifteen years in September.

@35 If you show 100 random people a picture of Bruce Wayne no one will know who that is. It is also because they have had countless things done of them that people are getting bored with it.

@ 41 - Yeah, 1991. I'm huge into DP but I only got into him in the past couple years.

Good point on the Bruce Wayne. I've seen many different versions of him when you think about it. Hell, I was into the comics but I honestly prefer the 89 movie as a better origin especially with The Joker but I do love the Killing Joke as the unofficial Joker Origin.

@ 43 - (hearts hearts - don't ask. Last post got 'eaten?') I liked Ledger but he was NOT the trademark Joker. Nolan tried to put too much "Realism" in a comic book adaptation.

Ledger never ONCE used any trademark Joker move:

Acid flower
Electrocuting Buzzer
The "make-up" was actually his chemically altered face
Smilex Products

Plus, Nicholson displayed much more of the maniacal insane Joker rather than a disturbed "agent of chaos". Again I loved his performance but when you put that up against the scene where Joker "shoots" Bruce Wayne and leaves the present for Vale -, or when he uses the Joy buzzer or even when he hacks into the public access TV with his commercial - "JOKER HERE!"

Everything just screamed the comic-Joker

"NEVER RUB ANOTHER MANS RHUBARB!"

Theres one thing that alot of people seem to be forgeting about this game... its not based on the movie... its set as a sequel to the movie... So, #48, there is no rhino in the movie.

Off topic, yey, 'geek talk' :3

I've only found out abour deadpool recently, but, he is actualy becoming one of my favourite charecters. ^_^
Supermans as famous as he is, because he was the first superhero. I personly hate him, because he's to strong, it makes things with him boaring, hence, why I tend to prefer more limited charecters, wish lesser abilitys. Spidy being a great example of that, he is very limited compared to others, whilse having enough diversity to keep things intresting.
Batman is one of my favs because of the limitations and darker feel, though I do prefer marvel in alot of ways, but my preference changed from charecter to charecter.

I wonder if the deadpool movie will take off after origins, before it, or be completely seperate from it. Time shall tell. :3

@49 After the way that they ruined Deadpool in Wolverine: Origins, the Deadpool movie has nothing to do with it. It's a standalone movie.
