id Software has responded to the commotion surrounding Doom 4 this week, claiming that the leaked images we saw on Tuesday do not represent what we should expect from the finished game.
The images revealed a brutal post-apocalyptic world, far darker than that in Rage, in which smoke billowed from skyscrapers and burned out cars lay smothered in dust.
However, speaking on Twitter, design director Matthew Hooper said, “Those images have nothing to do with what you’re gonna see in Doom 4. When we officially show things, you’ll see awesome. When we officially show things, fans will be happy.”
Interesting to note that Hooper didn’t deny that the images were from id. Nor did he deny they related to Doom 4. All we can presume is that they are an older, obsolete vision of the game. If it ever comes out.
