Gears of War 3
Gears of War 3 Coming to Games on Demand This Month
Written By
View author's profile

Nestled deep within the press release of the titles that were on offer at Microsoft’s Spring Showcase was the news that Gears of War 3 is heading to Games on Demand.

The Epic – pun intended – end to the trilogy is heading to the service on March 27th, the same day that the next map pack drops.

If you’re too lazy to get off the couch to have already bought Gears of War 3 then now you don’t need to even do that. Buy it. It's rather good.

Microsoft also announced that their upcoming Forces of Nature DLC for Gears of War 3 would be priced at 800 Microsoft Points. That said, if you’re still playing Gears of Wars 3 then that shouldn’t really matter because you should have already bought the Season Pass.

i was hoping for maybe a few more maps in some of these releases..but i am still enjoying gears 3 but i am a hardcore gears player for the multiplayer so i can understand people are disappointed with the season pass...since i would buy them all anyway...it made sense for me..i am looking forward to this dlc because guardian was the best mode in gears 2...and also..i am surprised people havent gotten gears 3 yet..lol i expect the games on demand sales to be low :)

@10 If it's GoD, there's no way it will be low.

@3 no.... If you were a fan of previous gears games, then you should be glad that they're bringing maps back... plus, they've only brought 3 back so far, they're bringing two more. that's a pretty good ratio in my opinion.

Man, I get sick of everyone putting down Games on Demand. The games aren't "overpriced" if you look at actual retail versions of the game. For instance, Madden 12 just came out last week. It's $60 (overpriced in general) but I you buy it from Walmart or GameStop its the same price (not including sales or pre-owned). For someone to say that's "overpriced" is dead wrong.

Now, I do agree there should be some discount for digital games, and there will be at some point in the future, but currently it's not fair to claim they are overpriced. There are some people, myself included, that are happy to pay the retail price for a digital copy. I would prefer to pay $60 for a digital copy of the game, even if I can get a retail copy for the same price. There is also the idea of new systems. There is no guarantee they new system will be able to play old discs, but there is a much higher probability it will play old digital content.

So, if you don't like GoD, then don't like it, no one is making you buy games online. But to fault it for charging the same price that you pay at GameStop is an unfair and biased assault on the service.

That is all.

Will wait for a game of the year edition with all DLC. I've waited this long, I'm sure I can hold out a little longer.

I got both Gears 1 and 2 on GoD for $15 each. I consider it more than reasonable for the convenience of never having to fiddle with a disc when I want to play them. Eventually, one day, Gears 3 oD will be down to $20 new and $15 on sale, and I'll get that then to finish the set. So much whining over a convenience service... GoD isn't a flea market, folks. You have options.

The only thing that is bullshit is that my friend cannot play online with me now because he has none of the DLC.

@#3 I was let down as soon as I finished campaign not to mention MP aspect of the game... Oh well, still playing it from time to time and now at least servers seem to be working 50% of the time unlike shortl after release... I just hope they finally make a game mode for all DLC maps only. Sort of tired of playing old ones all the time...

I'm kind of suprised that they haven't just started releasing games into GoD on the same day it hits retail. I'll always buy retail just cause I like to have physical copies of my games but there's definetly enough people that would download it day one to justify doing it. And if they did that they would make a bigger profit since there wouldn't be a retailer involved.

I don't know why people hate map packs with remakes in them, honestly I find remakes more exciting than brand new maps. (Halo and Gears of War handle map remakes the best).

As for this hitting GoD after a relative short period being on sales, this is a great thing and I hope they start going on demand sooner and sooner until eventually they release a big title on demand same day as it's release (Halo 4 would be perfect for this). Seeing Mass Effect 3 on the Playstation Network on Day 1 is a great sign and a step in the right direction. All their GoD games are released so far after release that their retail version is dirt cheap compared to the MSRP on demand version.

My Laptop's playing up now.... >_>

@17 : Digital Downloads are not the future, or at least I damn well hope not. Hard copies sold online or in the high street mean that companies are forced to price their products competitively. Only if you buy every game on release will you be paying $60/£40 per game, and that's means you're either loaded, a dumbshit or both in the current economic climate. If high street and online retailers fail, things like GoD will have carte blanche to set any kind of price and will monopolise the industry. This costs us consumers a shit ton more and would be a complete and utter travesty.

Furthermore, a lot of people have piss poor internet connections and download caps. From downloading Crysis (4.0GB), I had my connection slowed by Virgin Media via a soft cap for 3 days. This doesn't even begin to account for those with hard capped internet and extra charges.

So no, the time isn't right now for digital downloads and until the technology and pricing and fair trading legislation catches up with this idea, I believe digital downloads shouldn't be forced down our throats.

@25 - I never said that the time was right for digital distribution, that's why I said "the future".

It will probably not be fully digital for at least another generation, if not two. But you are way off base if you think it's not going to happen. Just like CDs before it, and even movies not more and more. Games will go digital. There will always be retail product, but over the next few years we will see less and less. Walmart used to have like 5 rows of CDs, now you are lucky to find 1. It's going to happen, whether we want it to or not. And personally, I can't wait for Day and Date releases!

@26 : The OFT will have something to say about a monopoly on the pricing. I can't see it happening here in the EU, but the US will probably take it.
