Turn 10 and Microsoft used their Spring Showcase in San Francisco this year to show off their latest Forza title, Forza Horizon.
In collaboration with Playground Games, as leaked yesterday, Turn 10 and the new Leamington Spa based studio will combine to offer a new Forza experience this year. Quite what that entails is anybody’s guess though.
Playground Games was founded by a group of ex-Codemasters designers who have vast amounts of experience in the racing genre, having worked on DiRT, TOCA Touring Cars and GRID.
The British studio, according to Turn 10’s Creative Director, Dan Greenawalt, is made up of developers who worked at such racing studios like Black Rock (Pure, Split/Second), Slightly Mad Studios (NFS: Shift, Shift Unleashed 2) and Bizarre Creations (Project Gotham, Blur).
The latest “tone” trailer – the same one leaked yesterday – shows various live-action sequences put together in a montage of sorts, much like the Forza 4 reveal trailer did. Like that trailer though, this new trailer didn’t really give that much away about the new game. If we were to speculate from the trailer alone, the inclusion of dirt roads, the festival atmosphere and bikini-clad babes could indicate we’ll be driving overdosed clubbers across the desert to the nearest hospital.
Microsoft has said that Forza Horizon is “fast-paced, pick-up-and-play racing game” though.
Remember, this is the studio that was rumoured to be working on Forza World, so this is effectively that in all but name… not that we knew what Forza World consisted of.
Greenawalt did state that Horizon’s intention was to put “a new wing in the Forza house” – whether he means through the money or expanding the franchise is unclear yet. We assume he means the latter. Either that, or flying cars.
Expect more on Forza Horizon at this year’s E3, said Greenawalt.
