EA has confirmed the opening of a new studio called EA Gothenburg, which will focus upon developing games using DICE's Frostbite 2 engine. With DICE situated in Stockholm, Sweden, it looks like its now become the home of Frostbite 2 innovations.

In an official unveiling of the EA Gothenburg development house, EA has announced that the newly founded studio will be "making a new generation of games on the Frostbite 2 engine", which suggests the studio might be pushing the boundaries of what's possible with the Battlefield 3 engine.

It looks as though the studio could also be working on a sequel to one of EA's existing IPs, but beyond that, EA has remained tight-lipped on offering any further details for now.

They treat that damn engine like its jesus or something.. I still had more fun playing BFBC2 and 1943 (can't remember if 1943 ran on the OG FB..) than battlefailed 3 and NFS The Runs.. Engine is gonna still be shitty on consoles untill we get some new hardware out and about.

In my opinion the Frostbite 2 engine didn't seem to be much of an upgrade, if anything, it was taking a step back in my opinion. In Battlefield Bad Company 2 I have had far more experiences where destruction of the environment was a major factor. In BF3 I've rarely experienced that I could destroy all that much or that it affected my gameplay much.

People think engines are way more important than they really are...

An engine isn't a game, people.
