Mass Effect 2 Cloud Saves Don't Play Nice With Mass Effect 3

Bad news for anyone who thought that storing their Mass Effect 2 save in the cloud was a good idea. EA has reported a bug that's preventing certain Xbox 360 users from porting across their completed Mass Effect 2 save games to Mass Effect 3.
Luckily for most, the issue is confined solely to cloud saves. "While Mass Effect 3 supports cloud saving for new or successfully imported Mass Effect 2 saves, it does not support the importation of endgame saves directly from the cloud," the post on EA.com notes. "Additionally, this can cause it to not recognise save files that have been transferred via cloud to a console other than the one where they originated."
Should you be unlucky enough to have moved your Mass Effect 2 save to the cloud from your HDD, then there might still be a solution to the problem. If you stored your save in the cloud to switch consoles, move the save back to the original hard drive where it was created, then use a transfer cable, USB stick or memory card to move the save across to the console you want to play Mass Effect 3 on. Still, it might not be all plain sailing in some cases.
"Currently there is one scenario in which you might not salvage the completed, endgame save file. If you have ever moved your file to the cloud and the original system is not available to transfer it back to," EA comments. "While it's possible that one might be able to reload a non-original save game near the end of Mass Effect 2 to "re-finish" the game to populate a new endgame save, we unfortunately cannot guarantee that this will work with certainty.
"Lastly, you may also experience importing issues if you've downloaded or used custom Mass Effect 2 saves, or have edited your own save using a community-created program."
The only issue we encountered in importing our Mass Effect 2 save was the absence of our Shepard's facial data, meaning we had to re-create him from scratch. Thankfully, we managed to do a pretty bang-up job. Mass Effect 3 is out today in North America and coming this Friday in Europe. Read our Mass Effect 3 review right here.
