Battlefield 3: Close Quarters DLC Busts Through the Drywall With New Vid and Screens
Written By

EA and DICE are once again showcasing the art of destruction in Battlefield 3, with this new trailer and screenshots taken from the forthcoming 'Close Quarters' DLC, which will see infantry-only matches coming to BF3 with an emphasis on blasting holes into the drywall, plaster and furniture of its tight designer apartment block, posh office spaces and other maps. That'll teach them rich folk to have nice things.

There's also be an emphasis on the new maps' verticality as well as blowing up shizzle with a big gun, and Close Quarters will also provide new weapons to add to your arsenal, new assignments and shiny unique dog tags. It's the four maps that'll be the crux of the Close Quarters DLC though, with the usual Frostbite 2 demolition you'd expect.

Battlefield 3: Close Quarters will be hitting the Xbox Live Marketplace in June 2012, but has yet to be priced or given a specific date. It'll be followed up by two more DLC packs - 'Armored Kill' and 'End Game' - in autumn and winter respectively. Go close quarters with the new screens and trailer below.

Maps like these were severely needed for the 360 and PS3 versions of the game. The 24 player limit shows on some of the huger maps, not so much on things like Op Metro.

Still. I really wish they had managed to have to same map design they had in Bad Company 2. Huge feeling battlefields with the 24 man limit, but you never felt like they were 'too big'.

HAHAHA, I was actually thinking that.

Personally, I am not 100% sold on this. Sure it looks like it could be interesting, but it seems to be one of those run and gun maps that would prompt USAS/DOA'ers. I much prefer the larger conquest maps and metro is always my least favorite when it pops up.

After crappy MW2, I swore to myself I would never pay for another DLC, and I will make no exception for my favorite franchise, especially when they are releasing Black Ops quantities of DLC at Black Ops prices.

@7 not at all. BFBC2 felt just like a BF game and never felt like CoD.

I don't understand why they can't do map design like that again.

I don't get why you lot are crying about having "CoD" maps on BF3. There is nothing that is forcing you to buy a CQB map pack. If you like tight, close quarters maps, buy them. If not, wait for the bigger maps.

I agree with you with the "USAS/DOA'ers". That and someone shooting a RPG down the hallway seem like it could get out of hand. I guess the situation may call for a "adapt and overcome" to the best of your abilities.

@12 for someone who seems to disapprove of COD (and Black Ops in particular) you seem to mention it more than your favourite franchise...but what is your favourite franchise? It was unclear to me, it almost sounded as though COD is your favourite franchise. Have I said favourite franchise enough times? It appears to me that with the huge success of Black Ops, EA thinks they can cash in with their instalment of a shooter. They also know how stupid gamers are and that no matter how much they bitch they'll still end up buying the DLC. To be honest, I'm surprised they haven't jacked up the price of DLC.

OT wow thanks for showing me another destruction video, I think we get it now. It's funny people complain COD is the same year after year, what is Battlefield? The same each instalment with destruction. Just on a different engine, big fucking deal.

Would it not make more sense to release the CQ DLC when the next COD game comes out? Kind of funny how the new weapons have already been in COD too....this DLC screams 'COD wannabe!' to me, hope it's not just USAS frag rounds and RPG spam fests.

I miss Bad Company. Looking forward to the armored DLC though!

Why the fuck does every Battlefield or COD story turn into this 8 year old "my game is better than you're game" or "they're just copying(insert game here)" bollocks!

either comment on the story or piss off and do something productive!

Rant over, can't wait for these maps and hopefully the update will sort out the frag round pussies properly

COD and BF are 2 different games, small maps are not a product on COD games there many FPS that had small maps before COD.

I will be buying this DLC because it will be well Worth he price for not just maps but new weapons which it rarely happens.

If only COD would update the game with not just maps people wouldn't of jump to BF, COD map be popular int he ages of 8 an 14 but the mature gamer is sick of it BF3 is offering more, large maps that you can just run and gun but now small maps for intense action.

It be interesting to see new tactics form from this DLC

Why is everyone saying zomg its cod now? You must only play on Op Metro and Grand Bazaar. Every other map is completely pointless because they're so huge and with only a 24 player limit, you barely see anyone. At least in Conquest. Caspian Border, Operation Firestorm, etc all end with a highest kill count of about 6 because you never see the enemies.

@18, you must be one of those "visual" learners who can't read.
Look at those small symbols that obstruct the main video and they make up a sentence, one of those sentences says "4 new maps" :O

For those of you equating this to CoD you have to remember one thing. In Battlefield you can shoot an RPG at a wall and actually kill the guy behind it...

@12 How is paying 1200msp for 4 new maps/New Assignments/Guns/Dogtags and I am guessing achievements as well anything like 800msp COD map packs? It is NEW content for a game that will keep fans of the game engaged with it longer. Feel free not to purchase it but I cant wait to enjoy my "HD Destruction" in a couple of months

This looks good but still more excited about the second one coming out as vehicles and bigger maps is what Battlefield is and should be all about! hope the 3rd installment is a close match to the 2nd lot of DLC or the back to Karkland kind of format.DICE import old maps in from BC 1 and 2, i.e Harvest Day with choppers & jets! How fuckin cool would that be.

Hopefully with the nerfing of the USAS this will be great. I've generally refused to stoop to shotguning, but it is an effective weapon. I enjoy the large scale meyhem but the magic of destruction on frostbite 2.0 is awesome and hopefully they have a lot of building collapsing awesomeness in this pack. I expect to see it drop at 1200 msp like B2K. Would rather see 800 but who am i kidding? Excited to see some new maps. Maybe we'll get some private match options with this map pack...but again....who am i kidding?!

Honestly, I apologize if this has been answered already but:

Will these maps contain the game types Rush or Conquest...or both? Cause that will be the only way I get this DLC.

If no one knows yet then sorry for asking. But I am quite curious.

And I think it is utterly ridiculous we have to wait another 2-3 months for this map pack, and that they are releasing the other 2 in autumn and winter. They should come sooner, its been a long time since the other map pack. And I really hope they add the UPDATE soon...

Thanks in advance for anyone to answer my question.

COD much? Well, I hope this will be funnier than its mirror product that does this gameplay already. I'll be more looking forward to new tanks, helios, and such on a huge map rather than a tight office style setting we always see in these fps games. I just hope the maps won't become something like a stab-fest.
