Wreckateer Trailer Takes a Second to Wreck It

Microsoft and developer Iron Galaxy have released a new trailer for its castle-smashing XBLA game, Wreckateer, in which you utilise the motion control of Kinect to launch various boulders with unique properties at the walls of a huge fort or castle.

There's your common or garden boulder to launch from your catapult, a Flying Shot with deployable wings for greater control and many other shots that you'll unlock as you progress through Wreckateer's 60 or so smashable, goblin-infested castles.

With 2-player turn-based destruction, lovely demolition physics and replayable playlists for comparing and beating your friends' scores, Wreckateer should be a worthy addition to the expanding Kinect library on the Xbox Live Arcade. Wreckateer will be coming to XBLA in spring 2012 for an as yet unconfirmed price. Check out the trailer.

Looks good. There doesn't seem to be a lot of great Kinect games out there, so hopefully this will hold me over and make my Kinect feel less abandoned.

Honestly, this game looks like decent fun - but if it has no option to play with a regular controler it's actually going to hurt sales in the long run.

I hate to say it as I really want the Kinect to be more than just a novelty act for gamers and I mean no offence to the creators of this game and others as I'm sure they put long hours into it, but games for the kinect to me always feel like a one trick pony for the casual type. Which I suppose is good for the industry. But to the core gamers out there Kinect games seem to detract from a medium out there that is under appreciated and a joke I.e. Rodger Ebert types. And if the money grabbing M$ and Sony's out there try to latch on to that then gaming will never take it's rightful place among serious mediums of storytelling and expression.

I'm over exaggerating the situation a bit but I feel like venting my frustration with the Wii, Kinect, and move.
