Akai Katana
Akai Katana EU Teaser Trailer Enters Bullet Hell
Written By
View author's profile

Originally announced for European launch back in October 2011 and released in Japan during May 2011, Akai Katana is almost ready to shoot its way to the west, and to celebrate, publisher Rising Star Games has released a teaser trailer, virtually identical to its original Japanese teaser.

In fact it is the same, save for a few swanky new graphics, some extra gameplay and English language descriptions. Cue physic powers, Guiding Ore that can be tempered into Guiding Blades, and an epic battle against the forces of the evil Emperor Basho. Forget the story... You can blow things up.

Fully remastered in 16:9 widescreen, with flashy HD visuals, an all-new scoring system, massive shooter combos and 3 modes: Origin, Slash and Climax, Akai Katana is as deep as shmups get. Check out the teaser trailer to see more of Akai Katana, which is releasing in the west in spring 2012. Caution: there will be wailing guitars.

One of my fav shmups on the 360, it's so satisfying shooting katanas accross the screen and having everything turn into bonuses. Here's hoping Rising Star pick up Mushihimesama HD next.

@15 This had me concerned as well.

It says NTSC at 0:07, and at 0:49 in that vid, it show box art with the ESRB "Rating Pending" emblem, so yeah, looks like it's making it to the states.

Happy.

Is it just me or do a lot of these SHMUPs games titles and boxarts are pretty misleading?
With this I've first thought of a game like Eternal Sonata.
Wouldn't expect flying in a spaceship shooting things from this boxart.

@17.

Who buys games based on the box art?
Also in came you can switch from a ship to a character when in power up mode etc. so the characters on the box you do indeed take direct control of in the game.

Most of caves games have pictures of the characters on the cover. It's not like they would use a screenshot instead.
