After at least one false start, and a whole lot of creative hand-wringing, the multiple award-winning platformer Fez finally has a release date.
As revealed on developer Polytron’s blog, the game will hit Xbox Live Marketplace on Friday, April 14th, for 800 MSP.
Fez itself looks like a 2D platformer, but has a rather nifty mechanic where you can spin the scenery around on its axis, allowing you to discover new areas and platforms to explore. Coupled with a a lovely faux-retro visual style, the game has already picked up many admirers.
The game’s creator, Phil Fish, recently angered fans of Japanese games and common decency. At GDC 2012 he replied to a Japanese dev asking what Fish thought of Japanese games by saying, “your games just suck.” Ouch.
Don’t let that colour your opinion of the game though. That looks ace.
Fish is also one of the stars of Indie Game: The Movie, which is currently touring North America. You can watch the trailer below, because it’s awesome. And, as a special bonus, I’ve also embedded the MEGA64 spoof below that. It made me lol.
