Rock Band Blitz
Rock Band Blitz Coming To XBLA From Harmonix
Written By
View author's profile

A Rock Band game using a standard controller and not a big plastic guitar peripheral? On the Xbox Live Arcade, no less? Madness... That's exactly what Harmonix has announced today though, with Rock Band Blitz, which looks to be a game more akin to the developer's early output like FreQuency or Amplitude.

There's 25 songs that are part of Rock Band Blitz as standard, but should you own any Rock Band tracks as part of your overall RB library, you'll also be able to play them in Blitz. That means you can access potentially every one of the 3700+ tracks already available for Rock Band for RB Blitz.

Rock Band Blitz's 25 tracks meanwhile, will be instantly playable in Rock Band 3. There's a pinball bouncing around, special purple keys and a bunch of other stuff too. It's all in the G4.TV announcement video below. Rock Band Blitz is coming to XBLA this summer.

[Thanks, 0nerry]

How much is this thing gonna cost? 25 downloadable songs would normally cost $50 in Rock Band. But arcade games are capped at 1600 MSP, right?

Yes it does look like the PSP RB game #2 but that game was based off Harmonix's first 2 games; Frequency and Amplitude, which are for the PS2 (and are really fun)

This looks great, I just wish they had elaborated on how the control scheme works in the video.

Also, major props to Harmonix. I know of no other developer who would go to such lengths to keep the content we've paid for compatible with new games (and a new format on top of that!).

This is going to be really really cool.

I can play soooo many songs, plus to have these 25 export to RB3

HMX is genius with this one

ummm if what the video shows are the songs included with the game then none of them are new, kinda a bummer.

@15: They announced that the ones bundled in the release are all new. They just filled the list with previous releases, because they're not looking to announce all the songs just yet.

I love playing rock band, but i prefer being tied to the instrument ive chosen so im not sure about the jumping between instrument. Wierdly enough when it comes to GH3 im better with the controller then i actually am with the guitar, so this might be quite decent anyway. Who knows this might have a nice music list so it wont feel wrong buying it for that, then you get new achievements + track in 1 go :)

This is pretty cool. I was a huge fan of FreQuency/Amplitude back on the PS2 and this is quite reminiscent of them.

#24, this is why the industry is the way it is. stop giving in and feeling obligated to play everything a company makes.. if you are hesitant wait for reviews

Really wanted to play the PSP Unplugged game when I was still into RB, now we've got a similar thing I'll definitely pick it up. Can't believe it can play my existing library of DLC tracks as well, Harmonix is great at doing pleasant surprises.

I wonder if it shall have the 400G limit?
I shall buy this because when has Harmonix ever put me down? :D
(except Spoonman in RB3)

Considering you can import all your songs from your RB library, this is going to be great! It's a shame Activision flooded the genre, Harmonix have always been good.

5 songs are stated on the Wikipedia page including, for us old school rockers, Metal Health by Quiet Riot and Great White's version of Once Bitten Twice Shy

They way that I look at it is, I still love and play RB3 - so even if this game sucks (don't think it will) I can grab 25 songs for $0.80 vs $2.00 for RB3(if the game is $20 like most XBL titles)

@33 $20 like most XBLA titles? I am not aware of any except for the upcoming Minecraft. Crysis doesn't count because it was a GoD title.

All 25 songs will be playable in Rock Band 3!

@34: I think CoD Classic was 20. But still, that's just two at this point. Oh, and there were a couple at launch, including Lumines.

@8 Just a guess, but I'm thinking that you use ABXY to switch instruments and the two trigger buttons to hit the left and right notes (and tilt the controller up for overdrive :P).

According to Rock Band themselves (http://www.rockband.com/games/rockbandblitz) it will be 1200 MSP. Can we stop speculating now?
