Mass Effect 3 Update Hits, Fixes Face Imports

The Mass Effect 3 patch hits today, bringing a whole range of bug fixes, Bioware has announced.

Most importantly, however, the update fixes a problem that prevented players from importing character faces from Mass Effect 1 through Mass Effect 2 and into Mass Effect 3. It's a bit late for most, obviously. But hey, better late than never.

Check out the full patch notes below:

  • Fixed issues when in some cases Shepard's customized facial features from ME1/ME2 may not be properly imported to ME3.
  • Fixed an issue when quickly and repeatedly selecting to Resume a Save could result in Player Level reset and a potential locking of powers.
  • Fixed an issue when selecting Multiplayer in the Main Menu while under a poor network connection could result in an unresponsive state.
  • Fixed a potential crash while accessing an in-game terminal from Eden Prime level.
  • Fixed an issue when attempting to login while Server is down. It would display a Server Down message and accepting the Server Shutdown message would shut down the game.
  • Fixed a potential memory crash while loading a Quick Save of a custom FemShep.
  • Fixed an issue when restarting missions and acquiring an above max amount of weapon mods results in displayed debug text on-screen.
  • Fixed an issue when an unresponsive game state could occur during transition after the Conduit level.

  • They didn't refix the ticker reset issue when it comes to achievements? Oh boy.
  • Still waiting for this game to get a price cut, then I'll consider buying it...
  • At least they're trying :D
  • #4, stop trolling us with your crappy comments.
  • Standby for the same old tired trolls Glad they fixed the face import issue, I'll now do playthroughs with my custom Sheps.
  • @2 it's cheap everywhere open your eyes
  • Its a shame that most people have already completed the game, would have been nice to complete the series with the same shepard i created in mass effect 1
  • @4 "You trolls exist because we allow it, and you will end because we demand it"
  • Wow, just in time for the long Easter weekend... Oh, wait...
  • Glad to see this fix out since I'm planning on getting the entire trilogy on PC and picking up a copy of ME1 for 360. Also, isn't there some free DLC slated sometime this week.. if not today?
  • at least i can play as my shepard from ME+ME2 for my insanity play through.
  • @2 open your eyes mate it's almost half price everywhere at the moment.
  • I wonder if FemShep's "crossed eyed"-ness has been fixed? IF not I'll still get some laughs out of her looking every way except from the person she's talking to.
  • I'm still waiting for my Operation Raptor rewards as I never got them due to the glitch that some players found. Sadface
  • The free multiplayer DLC is also available for download right now.
  • I can't believe it took them a month+ to fix this.
  • To late finshed it then sold it. Mass let down.
  • My Name is Garrus valkarian, and this is my favourate patch for mass effect 3.
  • Shit game.
  • Uh huh!
  • @17 You do realise how long it takes to get a patch tested and approved by both the developer and Microsoft... Right?
  • How big is the free download for maps and characters please?
  • is the patch online? Started it up and didnt get the update. Got the free dlc, so I'll play that for a while.
  • Love you BioWare for keep, care and perfect patches for one of Game of the Year 2012 games!! :):)
  • @23 128mb
  • @22 Sure. What I also realize is that thorough testing and QA should be essential elements of the game development process, elements a lot of developers seem to have abandoned these days.
  • does it fix the ending?
  • @22 99% of developers manage to either fix the bugs before release or issue a day 1 patch. not multiple patches 2-3 months after the game came out.. this isnt even the first patch and its an F'ning single player game, games that have continuous patches are MP where players are constantly trying to find glitches in maps. singleplayer focused games should be fixed before release.
  • @14 If it fixes the messed up interaction with Liara and Glyph (I think the first time they talk after Mars) where Shepard "follows" Glyph with their head/eyes instead of looking at Liara. Funny, but creepy moment.
  • i have been lucky i have not ran into any glitchs.... @28 i wish it did but looks like we are gonna have to wait longer for that haha
  • To the X360A staff, could you possibly work on a quicker way to thumb up or down comments without it having to reload the page? Some people are complaining about things that they have no right to, but it takes forever to dislike their comments.
  • I loved the past two titles. I would have bought 3 on release ...but I was broke and then noticed the rumour mill starting about the ending... I guess in a way I'm glad I was broke when it happened I will get it when I see this closure patch set for the summer I believe?
  • @2 - The price has already plummeted.
  • @32 When you click the thumb up or down buttons, open a new tab (which for me at least, is just the side button on my mouse). That way, you don't lose your place on the instance of the page you're currently reading, and you can just close the extra tabs later when you're done. On topic, it is insane the game shipped with this glitch. Love how even now in the patch notes they're saying it was happening in "some circumstances". It was every import that originated with ME1, which let's be honest, was probably the vast majority of 360 imports.
  • I'm probably going to get thumbs down for this, but shut your moaning! Yes they released a game that needed patches but at least they are bothering to, they could of just not bothered. Wow you couldn't import your face, who gives a shit? I couldn't import my Call Of Duty save into the next game, i got over it. Also they have like 200 people test out a game and the chances of a glitch or problem are close to none, but with 5 million people playing the same game im sure you are bound to find a glitch or 2. Glitches don't make or break a game. Mass Effect 3 has got one of the best reviews ever as well as Skyrim. In short, shut your bitching or make your own game!
  • @36 "In short, shut your bitching or make your own game!" Yes, of course, how silly of us. Because we're not qualified to create games ourselves, we're really not in a position to criticise those that do. I mean, that's why all game reviewers are game developers too? And why all food critics are also master chefs? And why all sports fans who trash other teams are in fact professional athletes? Just because we can't do something ourselves doesn't mean we're not able to critique someone else's work. I can't make my own game, that doesn't mean I have to kiss the ass of anyone that can, as if their work is unquestionably awesome.
  • @37 They just released a game that got one of the best reviews of all time, what have you done with your life recently ;) It wasn't until recently that they started making game patches and i bet my hat that customers didn't complain about glitches back then as much as they do now...and why, because customers have become greedy little morons who complain if they don't get what they want like a spoilt child, don't want the game don't buy it. Ps It wasn't meant to be taken literally, it kinda meant stop bitching and do something else with your lives instead of trolling. (Unless you have a profession in criticising someone else work you should kinda keep your mouth shut considering most critics have in-fact delved into what they are criticising)
  • Patch isnt up on Irish XBL yet ;-;
  • ending still sucks asshole.
  • @38 You're either an actual idiot, or you're deliberately just typing garbage to bait people. There's just no other option. You think game patches are a recent invention? Idiot. You think this recent invention of game patches only came about in response to greedy morons complaining, that if they hadn't, the game company would quite happily leave it's products broken, and be right to do so? Idiot. You think that if you buy a game, you should happily accept that it has glitches, and if you want a working game, well, you should buy something else rather than expect it fixed? Idiot. Finally, you think we should all stop bitching and keep our mouths shut because we haven't "delved into what we're criticising"? We do know what we're talking about, we have played the games in question, therefore... You're an idiot. Or a troll. Which probably makes me an idiot for even entertaining the idea your post was serious, but makes your "do something else with your lives instead of trolling" comment all the more ironically hilarious.
  • Finally they patch it up. Now i don't have to stare Garrus in the crotch... or have Shepard turing his head like in the exorcist... :)
  • This should affect me, but I'm not going to do another play-through of ME3 since my choices don't matter in the end anyways.
  • @41 Are you a professional games reviewer, because i somehow doubt it. And its only since the 360 and ps3 came out that patches have come out for games, before that customers had to accept what had been released and people didn't complain (to themselves maybe but to the developer not so much). If a developer takes its time to release a patch we should thank them for it, not slander them for making it bad in the first place because at the end of the day they are trying to make up for it. Also playing a game doesn't make you a critic, it makes you a moron thinking your opinion should be taken seriously. Game developers have asked for opinions yes, but saying "your game is shit and i wont accept your apology patch" isnt exactly helpful is it? The developer giving us this option is a luxury, not something we should expect.
  • Well, I think that most of those that were planning on importing their ME1/2 saves have already done that, therefore the facial import fix is irrelevant at this point. It should of been done before day 1 instead of working on day 1 DLC, IMO
  • I can't imagine the face import issue was something that bothered many People anyway?
  • @44 "only since the 360 and ps3 came out that patches have come out for games" Ever heard of a pc? Also I would love to let you know you win troll of the day.Congrats!
  • Is this patch live yet I'm trying to get it but wont download when I start the game.
  • Is the quest log worth a shit now?
  • SMFH at people thumbs downing anything that doesn't completely kiss Mass Effect's ass. God forbid anyone constructively criticizes something. Sheep.
  • @47 I kinda meant console wise or to be more specific consoles with the ability for online (other than just multiplayer). Yes you are correct that PC has had patches for years :) .My point was more aimed at that we should welcome patches not scrutinise developers for it.
  • And #32 is a moron. On what basis do people have "no right to complain"? And I really don't think your eagerness to click a stupid button is gonna have any affect on anyone's valid points against Mass Effect 3.
  • Awesome news! Now I can finally start the campaign instead of just playing Multi like I have since it came out. It was so hard to wait, but it'll be worth it to play through the game with my custom face.
  • @51, i dont care about the hate, ive gotta agree with you. look at halo CE, that game is riddled with glitches, but when they released anniversary, did they fix all the glitches and make a smoother, sleeker version? no, they left all the glitches in because "it adds to the charm that made it such an iconic game." and with a game like mass effect that has so many variables, you cant be expected to find everything right away. i for one am just glad they care enough to put the effort in to make the patch.
  • Have they fixed the Pistol glitch yet ? One of them isn't able to rank up to X.
  • I played ME3 today and it did not update
  • They fixed the face importing? Only took them slightly over a month to fix something that should have been found during testing and fixed before the game shipped. This isn't a minor bug, this is a HUGE, OBVIOUS BUG that should have never made it into the main game.
  • would be nice if they fixed stats from resetting. was 300 kills away from 5000 when it reset, extremely lucky i finished my insanity run the night before.
  • I just tried and it hasn't updated yet for me either
  • Ummm... wtf? Where is this stupid patch that will finally allow me to play as MY Shep? Did they announce a date for the patch but screw that up too? And now... we continue to play the waiting game.
  • Has anyone noticed when Shepard has conversations on the Normandy (I just got onto the Normandy) character positions are totally messed up? I was speaking with Liara and my Shep's head turned either left or right to speak, although she was right in front of me. Then when I had a conversation with Engineer Adams, when the camera was focused on where Adams was presumably standing he was totally gone, but still talking. No big deals, but it is kind of annoying.
  • Players get so angry at a few bugs. I can't imagine how incredibly difficult and meticulous a job it must be to program a modern video game today, and make it flawless. Think you can do better? Go ahead write some code and program your own modern blockbuster video game by yourself and make it 100% flawless....completely devoid of a single glitch. Go ahead and try. No? Then shut up. I came into a forum that peaked my interest and I voiced my opinion on a matter. Yes, I must be a TROLL!!!
  • Am I the only one whose bug wasn't fixed with the update? My Shepard from ME2 still doesn't look like he should--he's all bald and fat lol.
  • No, face import is still messed up for me. >:-(
