Resident Evil 6 Street Date Shifts Forward Into October?

You've had your T Virus and your G Virus in previous Resident Evil games, but have you ever fought the C Virus? No, you haven't, because it's Resident Evil 6's new strain of bio-organic weapon-creating nastiness, causing lots of Alien-esque eggs to hatch with new mutant menaces. And it looks like we might be fighting it much sooner than we first thought, as Capcom appears to have shifted the game's release date according to this new Italian subtitled trailer.

Showing more of Resident Evil 6's dramatic globetrotting story featuring a new hero character and the return of a slightly more grown-up Sherry Birkin from Resident Evil 2, the trailer has snowy locales, new monsters and even a clash between the game's two lead protagonists, Chris Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy.

It looks like there'll be more than a few fireworks in Resident Evil 6 then, when it launches on its new date of October 2nd, 2012. More than a month sooner than it's initially mooted November 20th date. Score! Check out the trailer below, which we'll replace with a better version as soon as one is available.

  • Welcome news for this guy! Looks like another packed October.
  • Sounds good to me, Assassin's Creed 3 and Resi 6 in October, and the possibility of GTA V the same month. Gonna be a good month if it all pans out.
  • I think Capcom are having 2nd thoughts about going toe to toe with CoD 113. Looking forward to see how they pull off a cover system and TPV combat, because ORC didn't do the best job.
  • Hey I can watch the videos again !!!
  • Gotta say that looks awesome, name dropping on wesker Jr was a surprise and the push forward of release date
  • @2: If GTAV comes out in October, everything withing a 4 week radius of the game, coming and going, will have hightailed it into 2013 faster than a prairie dog into it's nest during a thunderstorm.
  • I knew that guy had to be related to Wesker in some way. Also, Chris Vs Leon = Awesome.
  • Hell to the muthafuckin yea!
  • also waiting for "A" virus in further future... haha
  • What the fuck did they do to this series...UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH!
  • IMO i just wish that they could just go back to the old style that started the series, I want to actually have a good scare once in a while 1,2,3 used to scare the crap out of me. I'm in my 20s now and the 1st 3 still creep the shit out of me.
  • @11 I agree, these new ones dont scare me at all. OOOoOOh a plant creature whoopity doo! The old school zombies were best. Hopefully this will be the last to the series just storyline wise. I'm assuming that the Asian woman is probably Ada Wong, which will be good to finally see her get her comeuppance, its been a long time coming.
  • Call of Evil 6
  • I think I speak for everyone who played resident evil 5 when I say I hope leon shoots chris in his big stupid head
  • Wesker Jr? I knew that guy had something up his sleeve still!
  • UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH change scares me! With RE6 and Dragons Dogma coming out this year my love for Capcom has shot through the roof.
  • Feb 10th 2012 whoo hoo!! wait...
  • Wesker Jr really?!
  • Sherry Birkin with Wesker's son + Chris vs Leon with Ada in the middle as the "villain" (Well, Capcom's taking my money.)
  • This is brilliant news :D
  • Omg I'm a happy guy.. Early October!! Cannot wait!! :)
  • im going to play this game
  • Has everyone already forgotten the shit that is RE: ORC? Sad to say that of RE6 is ANYTHING like that, I won't be getting it and will be finished with Capcom for good. I also expect to see details of upcoming (on the disc) DLC for RE6 in a few weeks time sigh..,
  • Is it just me, or does one of Chris's army guys look a little too much like Dee-Ay from Operation Raccoon City?
  • 6 still looks like a woman blowing a giraffe.
  • @23 Res 6 (like all numbered entries) is developed in house, not by Slant Six, who made that POS Operation Raccoon City. Also, the DLC jokes are getting old.
  • Is this Survival Horror? Action Horror? or neither?
  • #27 They're calling it "Dramatic Horror".
  • Thats What i need:) looks good
  • Oh god yes!
  • @26 Capcom themselves have already reported that they want RE6 to be more like COD. That sounds pretty awful to me. And regarding the DLC; I wasn't joking.
  • I honestly don't get some people's beef. I've been playing RE since the beginning and I am super excited for this and some closure on Sherry and maybe Ada. Sounds and looks awesome. #31 - I don't remember that, but regardless if they said that, it doesn't change the fact this game looks nothing like Call of Duty. You have to do better than "LOL CHRIS HAS SOME MERCENARY GUYS AND THEY SHOOT" with that joke. And regarding your post in #23, Operation Raccoon City wasn't even made by Capcom, so I don't know why that would even be relevant. That'd be like saying "EVERYONE FORGET RESIDENT EVIL GAIDEN ON THE GAMEBOY?" and using that as evidence of where RE is headed. #10 - Made it great. As awesome as the original games were, they were also the same thing in every game. It's also only been 2-3 games that have been like this. And if you're talking story, I don't see the problem. RE5's was ridiculous, but this seems to be heading back in a direction that makes sense. #18 - You realize that's not his name? That's just what Ada is calling him. #11 - The world has moved on. And truth be told, the original games aren't that scary. You'd trade a genuinely more fun experience for sluggish controls and jump scares that any normal person would get used to after playing multiple times? I honestly can't get scared by any RE game anymore, and as much as I love the originals because they were classic and scary when I was in 5th grade, I don't know that I'd actually want the series to be like that again. I only missed the zombies and better creature design. RE6 looks like it's remedying that, in my opinion. #12 - You realize plant monsters have been in the series since the original, right? I don't even know why you mentioned that. Plant-42, IVY, etc...
  • I still think "Wesker jr" might be Steve burnside from code veronica.
  • I'm still hesitant to buy it. I loved RE 5, mabye because I didn't play any others, and it was fun. I'm a big TPS fan but I don't like the fast-paced gameplay they are trying to create. Almost every game is trying to be like COD. Whether we like the controls or gameplay etc. we should be thankful when a series keeps its originality.
  • shit me. HEY PEOPLE, THE MASTERPIERCE IS COMING ON OCTOBER... The Game which will do Revolution and Evolution in Game Industry. YAHYEW!!! Haleluya!!!!!!!!!!
  • @28 Oh I see, so is half the game gonna be cutscenes? @32 Granted we all have played the old RE games and they arent as scary as they were back then, but doesnt mean I want them to completly scrap the formula that made them successful. I think if they put their mind to it they could create a survival horror RE again that WOULD scare you. Other companies can do it, why not capcom?
  • @32 considering you love RE so much, you obviously don't read the news about it. Try this http://www.xbox360achievements.org/news/news-11231-Survival-Horror-Not-Big-Enough-for-Resident-Evil--Says-Capcom.html Try telling me that doesn't sound shit.
  • Its so stupid that the game that defined survival horror, is no longe going to be a survival horror game... I will buy this, seeing as its a main title, I've always loved the resi evil games (despising Resi5) and it does look like an improvement on resi evil 5 luckily, though, I wish they took a more middle ground rather then moving away from survival horror, it just doesn't make any sense, sure, they want to sell more, but thats not justifiable to change the nature of a game that was one of its genders founders/definers.
  • @ #38: I stopped reading your post once I realized that it's a bunch of separate ideas crammed into one rambling sentence. Punctuation isn't scary. @ #32: I couldn't agree with you more. When Resident Evil 3 was released, fans started making noise for a change in the formula. When Code Veronica's first details were released, fans were in an uproar over a fresh coat of paint being slapped onto the tired, old system. OT: People saying that the series should return to its "roots" are, in my opinion, remembering the games as being far better than they were. The controls are serviceable at best and awful at worst, and other than jumping once while playing RE1 (the first dog) and once during RE3 (Brad's first appearance) during my first time through each of them, the scares were nonexistent for me. The only RE game that ever generated an atmosphere of dread in my mind was the GameCube remake of the first game. I enjoyed the plot of the first four console games; fighting zombies, the endearingly-bad voice acting, and the characters all appealed to me. However, I own the first three on PSN, and they have not aged well at all. A return to that style of game would be a massive mistake.
  • @31. They want it to COMPETE with CoD. Not be like it.
  • Surprised about the release date i thought if anything it would go up rather than down
  • @#37 - I actually -have- read that. And you're misreading it. Capcom said that Survival Horror is basically dead and not selling because of the fact that audiences, specifically in the Western part of the world, are more interested in buying games like Call of Duty. And they're right. Survival Horror games died off. And not just because of RE4. They just don't do well. It's a niche market. The biggest money makers are FPS titles. So the idea isn't to make RE *like* Call of Duty. It's to sell more like Call of Duty, which requires a little more action, as opposed to trodding along in corridors with a zombie popping through a window for a cheap scare. They also said that numbered RE games would "keep their identity". If anything, they were trying to justify Operation Raccoon City for existing and being a straight up shooter. You should go back and read it more thoroughly. @#39 - That's the sad truth about fans. The whole reason the formula CHANGED was because Resident Evil fans were running around bitching that the first 4 games were all the same. So they took RE4 in a new direction, everyone (mostly) loved it, so RE5 followed that direction. Then everyone bitched that Capcom lost their touch and they needed to go back to the formula they wanted them to change in the first place. Even though RE5 is almost a carbon copy (right down to animations) of RE4, which people loved. The only real problem (gameplay-wise) is the atmosphere in RE5 (and honestly, it was weird in RE4 too). And some people complain about co-op/Sheva, but I just handed her a cattle prod and left her alone and I had no problems. Owning a Gamecube, I was already used to fake co-op (Resident Evil 0). @#36 - It really doesn't matter what they do. Fans are going to hate them anyway. If it's too similar to the old games, newer fans are mad. If it's too similar to RE4/5, older fans are mad. If it's a perfect middle ground, people will find/make stuff up to complain about. If there's nothing wrong with the game, it will be the DLC/on-disc DLC or something like that. They could easily make it action/scary. I feel like Dead Space did a great job of being pretty scary *and* being an action game. I feel like it is a nice middle ground. Not quite survival horror, but it definitely draws enough from it to feel fresh in a world where the genre has essentially died. RE6 looks to be a lot closer to that, though not quite there yet. But I think the problem is that they've put themselves in a spot where they can't go back unless they go back to 1998 in the story, and they are trying to push the story forward and put some closure on the Raccoon City incident and all the key players who were involved. And now they have the split fanbase, which is a problem Sonic has also run into. No matter what they do at this point, some group is going to be up in arms about stupid crap.
  • wesker jr? da faq?
  • @39 I have issues with punctuation/spelling, not that hard to understand what I wrote. I don't want the controls of old, I'd much prefer something like dead space, that had a great blend of both horror, survival, action and fluid controls. This looks at least partially like a resident evil game, unlike 5, which just had you roaming around shooting black guys and a few monsters. If you took out the lead characters of 5, would you honestly of recognized it as a resident evil game at all? (bar a few creatures returns of course) I enjoyed resident evil 4, because it still had elements of mystery and horror to it, it was more identifiable as a survival horror, unlike 5.
  • Alex wesker....called it (not sure why people are so surpised as it seemed obvious IMO)but so far resident evil 6 appears to have some potential as long as capcom don't fuck up the end product.
