Skullgirls has managed to surpass the 50,000 sales mark, Reverge Labs has announced via its Skullgirls Twitter feed, declaring "Even with a partial EU/ANZ release, managed to sell over 50,000 copies in its first 10 days of release!"

A wonderfully animated and visually appealing fighting game, it's not hard to see why Skullgirls has been a resounding success for Reverge, and keen to support the game, the developer is hard at work on the first updates.

"Reverge Labs and Autumn Games would like to sincerely thank everyone for their support. We've started on the first updates, so stay tuned!" Reverge tweeted.

Skullgirls is out now on the Xbox Live Arcade for 1200 Microsoft Points.

this is why MS charges so much. people will go out & still buy it at any price. people complain about pricing. then support it by buying games/add ons at 1200pts or more. which is ridiculous. i'll wait for the pricing to drop to a reasonable price. i'm not a sheep.

@8, That, or you know, they need to charge that to be profitable. 50,000 sales at 1200 points equates to about $750,000. Admittedly that's quite a bit of cash, but I don't know if it's enough to fund this kind of project. I mean, that's not even enough the hire 22 employees for a year, if you pay them as little as $35 a year. This thought isn't taking into consideration other development expenses such hardware, software and other basic resources. Nor does it factor in the fact that Microsoft gets a cut of each sale.

I'll fully admit that I have no idea how large the staff for this project was, nor how long it was in development for, but I'm not so narrow minded to recognize that a project like this wasn't a cheap endeavor and when the end result is only 50,000 units sold there is a good chance that they didn't break even, even if they are charging $15.

@ 9/10, I was gonna be that annoying guy who pointed it out.

Given the analysis you gave it, I'd like to know what cut Microsoft take too. I know sales will still come in and there will probably be another spike later on when it hits DotW but short term, it'd be interesting to know the financial side of it.

It's a good fighting game, and for 15$ it's worth it. Believe it or not I'm one of those people who always think that majority of arcade games are over priced.

Oh and lovely fellas before jumping to conclusion how much they make, you should notice it's Japanese studio. So it's tons of money for them e.g 500,000 copies sold for any game is out of the world for their industry.

@13 please grow up. if you look at the figures & knew how much it costs to make. you'd know they made back their money & then some.

@9/10 i know math & i respect what you're saying. if you knew too how much was made. now minus the cost to produce. you'd see how much profit they just made. no offense but this isnt a disc based game. so no extra costs (shipping,books,cases,extra). its a straight digital transfer. which cuts costs dramatically. so they actually made a killing on this already.

now look at the lack of stages & fighters. now compare it to fighting games out now. there is a HUGE difference in cost,developement,extra. thats why i say xbla games/add ons are over priced. remember oblivion at 1200pts? i have yet to see any content yet that stacks upto the hundreds of hours shivering isles produced. that & its digital are my grounds for this being over priced. plus its only been 10 friggin days! imagine a month/year from now. ya they're making an absured amount of money off of this already. thats not including future DLC too. which all who bought the game will buy! now think of the figures again. :)

@8

agreed. i typically never spend more than 800 points on xbl content. i'll be waiting for this to go on a deal of the week

@9

don't forget, this 50,000 sales number is just the sales for the first week and a half. they will continue to make more sales. of course as everyone else has said, we have no idea how big this studio is beyond the assumption that they are small since they were founded less than 2 years ago. they might not even have 10 people for all we know.

Surprised.

The game is too much for the content you get and considering you can get tons of better fighters that have dropped to be around the same price.

It looks nice, has great references and is made by some funny people, but it just simply isn't worth $15 for what you get.

I mean, that's cool that it sold a lot, and against FEZ, but huh.

I'm one of those guys who waits for Arcade games to go on Special and then buy in bulk for a rainy day, I got X-Men for example when it was 400 points on special (possibly 800 I'm not 100% certain) and haven't touched it yet, I know I'll enjoy it, but I just wanted a bargain game to play between games, unfortunately, Mass Effect 3 has taken all of my gaming time! :D

@17 Okay, lets talk proportions. If you argue a game at $15 with eight fighters doesn't have enough fighters a $60 release with 32 characters wouldn't have enough fighters as well. So games like Dead or Alive 4, Soul Calibur IV and V and Street Fighter IV came up short here as well. I'd point out information on stages but for the life of me can't find any info on the number of stages there are.

I also hate poking more holes into your bubble, but Shivering Isles was initially 2400 points for about 30 hours of new gameplay. Granted this is still probably the greatest deal for DLC since the inception of DLC, your facts are just a bit off.

All I'm really saying with my posts is we can't assume this game was priced this way to gouge the customer. Games are not cheap to make and new IPs are often risky endeavors. I am honestly unsure if 50,000 downloads in ten days is a lot. You hear about games like Limbo hitting a million in five months, but you can be reasonably sure a huge chunk of those where right when it came out. Has the developer made back their money? Possibly. They seem excited enough, but this could just be them stoked that the game is well on it's way to making a profit. Unless one of us is an employee for them there is no way for us to tell. Regardless They deemed $15 an appropriate price tag and apparently 50,000 people thought it was acceptable. That doesn't make it price gouging.

people buying something doesn't mean it isn't price gouging. just look at call of duty's map packs. they sell great, but are clearly price gouging.

(i'm not necessarily calling this game price gouging, but its definitely more than i'm personally willing to pay for it).

Definetly a good game is Skullgirls! I've yet to buy it but I enjoyed the demo and have a few friends who bought it and love it. I believe it's more accessible then other fighting games out on the market right now (the tutorial is one of the best out there too!). Sure, every fighting game is bound to have the exploitable character who can spam the screen with projectiles (Saggat or Akuma in SSF4, Arakune in BB, Peacock SG, and just about every other character in MK), but there's ALWAYS a way around this and if you play enough you're bound to find it.

@9 Thats all fine, but judging from the comments (not just this game) people seem to find the price too steap, so if they'd priced it at 800 there might have been 100.000 downloads.
Not saying this game isn't worth 15$, but I think companys should sometimes not try to borderline the maximum amount they can possibly charge and count on selling more units at a lower price.

its funny that youll go spend 20 dollers to see the same dull ass movies but a 15 doller arcade game that can be played as much as you want is to much.i mean cmon i know most of you seen that pile avatar.im sure skullgirls is way better than that.plus its a fully hand drawn game.thats bad ass in itself.

I don't see why people are arguing about the price. Are the full 360 games like Skyrim worth 60 bucks? It really depends on how badly you want to play the game! Sure, I wish Skyrim (or any of the other $60.00 games started 10 dollars cheaper), but the developer (or publisher) decides what a game is worth, and if it will sell for that or not.

How long a game stays at the original price is ultimately decided by US! Crappy games like Duke Nukem Forever dropped REALLY fast, because it wasn't worth what it started out at!! I think it's going for 20 bucks or less, now.

I bought Bankshot Billiards 2 a LONG time ago for 1200 MS Points. I didn't gripe about the price... I saw it, I got it! Of course, now... there are SO MANY GAMES to choose from (not to mention I have a huge library of games to play - including many I don't have all the achievements in)... I just wait until a new game I'm interested in goes on sale, or the price is reduced.

Honestly, though... if Krome Studios suddenly released a follow-up to Blade Kitten (for 1200 MS Points)... I'd be all over that like a cat on catnip! Any game that makes me laugh that much can have my money (the dialog is HILARIOUS)!! :-)

BTW... I wasn't part of that 50,000... and I won't be part of the next 50,000... I have no interest in Skullgirls, though I'm glad the developer & publisher are pleased with the sales!

@37

the problem with your comparison to full retail games is that those games DO get adjusted based on how they are selling. xbla games however, do not. skull girls will be $15 today, tomorrow, a month from now, a year from now, right up until the point xb360 arcade games are discontinued (aside from isolated 1 week sales). this price is set in stone and completely unaffected by how it sells
