Dust off your Kinect, because here's something you'll really want it for. A demo of From Software's Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor has gone live on the Xbox Live Marketplace today, giving you the opportunity to pilot a Vertical Tank using both the Kinect sensor and a controller in tandem.

Set in Manhattan circa 2082, Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor's world is one without computers or modern technology, meaning wars are now fought in hulking walking war machines called Vertical Tanks. You'll be able to jump into the cockpit of a VT in the demo and try out the hybrid Kinect and controller system for yourself.

You can add the Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor demo to your download queue here. The full game is out on June 19th in North America and June 22nd in Europe.

Looking forward to this, even if it is just so my Kinect can do more than voice control on Netflix..

While I like the idea of games integrating the Kinect well, I can't help but feel a little hurt that there is no usb attachment to use the original game's 200 dollar controller with this.

In my opinion, this is a step back for Steel Batallion

This is great! I have no idea if the game will be good or not but I have been very interested in this since first hearing about it. Demos for these unproven games are great for the consumers.

The one with 2 sticks and 40 buttons?
You can still use that one.

@5 Source? While I hope this is true, I have major doubts seeing as how this is a "Kinect Required" game.

Did not expect a demo of this. Thought it would be one I'd have to wait for reviews to come out and rent first.

No controller = no play. Microsoft can eat a dick for making kinect.

Why is this kinect only? I can see optional kinect support; but they've cut out controller usage completely?

That's going to limit the number of people that could be enjoying this game.

well, i gave the demo anbother shot and it recognized me now, but jeez, it does seem complicated. @ 11 you can move around using the controller, and use kinect for some stuff inside the mech, but its going to take a lot of practice

Not sure why #4 got thumbsdown. They can't help that they haven't played originally but are willing to give this a try. Least it will be different from fps and 3rd person games that are all over. Not saying it going to be any cop but worth a play.

Shame my 40 button controller won't be able to come out of the loft though.

@11 yeah and the $200 dollar controller that was impossible to find required to play the first 2 games didn't limit the number of people that could play the game?

I actually really like it, I will be playing it over the weekend to perfect the controls and decide whether to get it then. I like the fact as well that you can sit down and stand up to look out of the tank thingy.
Also did anyone else use the self-destruct? :P I opened it first then closed it, but then I thought does it actually work and Booooom haha
