Dead Space Graphic Novel Short: A Teaser For Dead Space 3?

Dead Space 3 has to be a dead cert for E3 2012. It just has to be. As if the numerous leaks, speculations and frankly frightening rumours that it could be an FPS (please, no) aren't enough, EA has today released a Dead Space 3 graphic novel short, introducing Earthgov Sergeant John Carver.

Stationed on the planet Uxor, Carver witnesses an attack on the marker site during his patrol, releasing a swarm of Necromorphs and a huge pulsating mass of Necromorph nastiness that'll change his life forever. John must now fight his way through the colony and discover his place in fighting the alien threat.

"This is just the start of John Carver's saga in the Dead Space Universe" reads the description on the official Dead Space website. Is Dead Space 3 the next part? If so, where does that leave Isaac Clarke? Hopefully, we'll find out at E3 next week.

  • I loved the first 2 in the franchise, let's hope the next one lives up to expectations.
  • There were no rumors of it being an FPS. There was just a job listing for a game that really didn't imply Dead Space at all, and you guys started drawing your own conclusions out of nothing. And speaking of drawing conclusions, they could just be talking about... a 2nd graphics novel. Or that he appears in DS3. Or one of the expanded universe things (like the movies, the graphic novels/comics and the Ignition 'game' or Extraction). Pretty sure all signs point to Isaac being the main character of Dead Space 3 (and presumably will be his final starring role) and it being the same 3rd person 'horror'-action as the past two games.
  • this years E3 it looking to be the best
  • I enjoyed the animated graphic novel tie-in for Dead Space 1 and I'm glad their bringing them back to hype up DS 3.
  • if isaac was here he would be saying shit here we go again.
  • I wonder if isaac will appear in johns saga :) Bad ass vet with his plasma cutter
  • Cut off their limbs! Dismember them!!
  • Maybe this "John Carver" dude will be like a playable co-op character from some of the rumors discussing co-op in Dead Space 3. Or maybe Isaac's "demented shadow" is just a metaphor for Carver's behavior in the game.
  • John Carver might be player number two & they are trying to introduce him to let people get a feel for his character before Dead Space 3. Or he might just play out as a side character in Dead Space 3, I hope this is the case because I'm really hoping player two will be Ellie. Or a third option is he might pop up in the Dead Space FPS spin off EA is looking into starting.
  • His helmet looks bad ass
  • I would love to see a co-op mode for Dead space 3. Dead Space 2's multiplayer was brilliant and I had hours of enjoyment ripping humans up with my friends.
  • Anyone else think that they might be done with Clark? Personally I don't really see what else they could do with him. I was never a big fan of the series story though I love the games, but I think they need an over arking story. Like at the very lest some group intentionally spreading these things trying to wipe out humanity (maybe an intelligent alien race?) or some interesting and dramatic story to carry over multiple games. I'd make things more interesting imo.
  • Like 9 & 10 said maybe a co-op character? If EA does do an FPS, hopefully it's not part of the main series, kind of like they did with "Extraction."
  • I would be fine with a co-op mode, as long as it is separate from the main campaign. Dead Space 2 had multiplayer, but thankfully the single player was still amazing, and there were no online achievements (but holy moly that Hardcore achievement was stressful!) I absolutely love this franchise, and I really hope they don't take it down the RE5 route and make it not so scary anymore.
  • @13 I highly doubt Isaac will not be the main character or have a major role in Dead Space 3, that would be like not having Shepard in Mass Effect 3 lol. It would be a HUGE problem for almost every fan of series, as for Isaac Clarke well all my chips are on him dying off in Dead Space 3 that's just my prediction for 3. It would most certainly open it up for more Dead Space spin offs & such. As for Isaac's character I feel they can still go a few routes for his story, one being the most obvious with him going out in a heroic bang saving day.
  • Not trying to sound like a wuss but if ds3 doesnt have isaac and isnt scary anymore dont know if ill even buy it man they do need a third one tho the ending of the second one definetly didnt wrap things up and the way isaac looked at the end gives me a few suspcious thoughts.
  • Cannot wait for Dead Space 3 so much. Novel look so good. Yah, I hope Isaac in next series because he is one of best game heroes. :)
  • @16 it doesnt have to be issac.itd be best if it wasnt.we need a new protaganist.they proved with the severed dlc that he was not needed. im done with issacs story.as far as im concerned he is already in a mental hospital or dead.his mind is fukd.he cant be in any shape to keep fighting.
  • Well, E3 news may or may not be a deal breaker for me with DS3. Some of the rumours are horrible for this type of game.
  • Protip: EA fucks up every series if the first game is successful. The game is going to be awful.
  • I searched for 'dead space john carver' on youtube so I could put this vid in my Watch Later list. Second video? 'Dead Space 3 Co-op Partner Revealed - IGN News' Way to jump the gun IGN.
  • that big mofo at the end looks like it will be a pain ijn the ass. but im excited for 3 XD
  • @19 like bad mental state has ever stopped a protagonist...
  • @23 All shittier than previous games.
  • Logos have leaked online.. check em out.. Id link but i dont feel like it xD
  • No John, you are the demons. And then John was a Necromorph.
  • Fun fact: The Dead Space main site has a countdown in unitology. It's at roughly 6 days and 5 hours (and some minutes) right now.
