Dead Space 2
More Dead Space 3 Images Revealed, Showing John Carver, Dual-Wielding and a Beard
Written By

A drop has turned into a trickle. More Dead Space 3 images have leaked, apparently from the official site, showing the action horror game errr, in action.

The images feature Isaac Clarke and the subject of the recently revealed motion comic, John Carver. That the character has been fleshed out via that animated video would seem to discredit the rumour that Isaac will be accompanied by a alter-ego representing his fractured, failing mental state. Possibly.

Drop-in, drop-out co-op, another of the rumours, would appear to be all but confirmed.

In addition to this, the images also show a new mutated necromorph, a nastly looking thing that looks like two people mushed into one. We also get a glimpse of Clarke with his helmet off, sporting a rather dashing beard and dual-wielding. Dual-wielding! [Edit: Or, erm, piloting a ship. Damn our knackered eyes]

Have we mentioned E3 is next week, ‘cos it totally is! Expect more then.

Co-op always makes a game more fun, just like it did Resdient Evil 5 (don't hate, not saying it was a better game just saying that its more fun to play with someone).

In my experience whenever you add co-op to a scary game, you lose all the scare. I don't like that they're adding co-op but, to each his own, I just won't be getting it.

#4, you don't have to play co-op you know. Maybe for achievements but then just play SP. Lol.

I have faith though that DS3 will be amazing, as long as Visceral is still making it, and only them.

That does it. I am going to go and get Dead Space and Dead Space 2, finally.

@4 so you won't be getting the game simply because it has the OPTION to play co-op? :)

If its like Resident Evil 5 co-op, the co-op partner will be AI controlled, which still detracts from any scares to be had.

Would be awesome if it had split-screen campaign co-op, (damn future soldier and their false advertising!)
Also drop-in, drop-out co-op usual means no second player achievements :(

I am beyond annoyed by "forced" co op. I think optional co op modes are great but when it is forced upon me, like in Resident Evil 5, it makes it really annoying. I'm all for change and new ideas but I just don't want this. Half of the tension in Dead Space is being alone most of the time. I'm not gonna be all that scared if I have some other guy with me. Don't penalize me with incompetent AI in my single player game.

I know we don't have any real details yet, but if you don't have a friend to play with, you usually have to babysit the other player.

I'm just certain it was another "brilliant" EA decision.

Looks awesome. Co-op be damned. I'm excited.

@#5 - I think they mean the fact that there is always a 2nd character. Single player is still co-op, but now you have a computer player.

@#1 - I can't stress enough that there never were any FPS rumors outside of this site drawing conclusions from stuff that never implied it was about Dead Space 3.

It doesn't say anywhere that you HAVE to play with a second person, whether it be AI or another player on LIVE or split-screen, whatever. Maybe the co-op is able to be disabled/enabled whenever, both for AI and other real players. Either way, it's Dead Space so I know I'll love it.

There's a spot of truth in what you say, but EA were looking at an FPS Dead Space spin-off. A spin-off that almost killed DS3, apparently. It wasn't just us.

Nice job passing on potential spoilers 360A. You could have ommitted that from the article and just discussed the pictures for what they were. If the twist mentioned in the article turns out to be true, then it is YOU here that have spoiler it for me and probably others too. So for that, Fuck you very much!

Oh boy, co-op in a game that shouldn't have co-op! As long as it isn't FORCED on you, like how Resident Evil 5 gave you an AI player if you were playing alone, I'll be okay with it. Hopefully that gets confirmed soon.

I'm also put off by the enemy with the gun.

maybe the coop will be a new gametype for the series, not the campaign.i agree with most of you and dont wanna chore around with an ai partner.that being said any game should be playable in coop.remember cod waw was it by your self or bring a friend with.
the one thing ive always hated about deadspace is the way they charge us for the extra suits on the marketplace.those should be bonuses already included on the game disc.
now on to the fps rumors.i expect to see an dead space fps sooner or makes good business sense for the owners of the ip.remember they alredy did a succesfull on rails fps.just to bad that we never got it for the xbox.

@ 41 LOL love the EFNY reference ;)

I'm all in here. Want to see what they do for a limited edition :D

You know, the co-op factor may... MAY detract from the creep-out factor, but I don't care, games are more fun with a bud.

My only hope for it is that they do local split screen as an option, playing this with my brother on his 60" flatscreen is going to be awesome.

@45 The fire appears to actually be in the ship, so I'm betting its more likely from the beginning or maybe there is a part where they use a ship to travel and get shot down. Either way, most 'leaks' with screenshots like this are either intentional or from promo shots sent to magazines and websites in advance of E3, so spoilers would be very unlikely.

Looks like Dead Space franchise will rapidly follow the Resident Evil one down the toilet.

People are writing this off due to co-op without many details. The others weren't particularly scary just atmospheric with moments that made you jump. Wait for more info before you join either bandwagon would be my opinion on the matter.

I would be ok (I would love it in fact) if the co-op mode was a separate story like portal 2 or a horde mode with story based objectives so that you got the best of both worlds.

Just adding co-op to the campaign means that the levels are designed for 2 players to the detriment of people who want to play solo.

I am sure DS3 will be a great game but EA will have cut out the bits that made dead space special (bar the dismemberment) in order to appeal to a larger audience for more $$$

The tense fear was what made this game what it is. That's like giving out to people who would be upset with a decision to introduce aliens into Terminator.

Obviously not quite as bad, but people will always have their opinions, and 'pathetic' is a matter of opinion.

I've been reading a lot of "co-op ruins the horror aspect of survival horror," posts lately. We're all a little desensitized to horror in the twilight years of the genre; if it's not overtly disgusting it won't really hit us in any way shape or form as being "frightening." I'm still waiting for the Human Centipede: Full Sequence: The Game!

I'm with #56.

@#56: There are different kinds of fear, and one key factor in a lot of them is becoming immersed in the game. Having a co-op partner has a tendency to break that a lot of the time.

That said, all you need to not destroy the mood is the right partner. Dead Space 2 wasn't as scary as the first, but it was pretty fun. Here's to hoping Dead Space 3 can get the balance right and, I daresay if it needs to lean in one particular direction, let it do it in the favour of fear.

I feel EA is slowly killing this series for me in some ways. Isolation, with minimal soundtrack was the key to the scare factor in the first game. Dead Sapce 2 has jumpy moments, but felt more like Bioshock 2 in terms of ambiance. And I personally don't care about multi-player that they brought in. I go to the plethora of Multi-player games already out there for that experience. Dead Space 3 looks like they have piled on too much. Less was more for the first game, and I'll still stick with that motto. It's too much now.

Do people not do any research on games anymore, it was explained that co-op mode in Dead Space 3 was drop-in drop-out, that means that you can play with another person if you wish to but if not your not paired with a AI partner akin to Resident Evil 5, you play alone with no one else and John Carver will appear in the game but only in a cinematic cut-scene sense, when a human partner is playing Carver, he will appear in-game with Isaac and the cut-scenes will play out differently to account for Carver being with Isaac the entire time and further more additional story will be told through optional co-op mission centred around Carver and his experiences and I know that because there is an achievement for completing them all.
