It’s all go at Payday: The Heist developers Overkill. Not only have they picked up a publisher for a sequel to their co-operative shooter, they’re also rumoured to be working on a prequel to Valve’s Left 4 Dead series.
Let’s start with Payday: The Heist 2. Overkill confirmed that publisher 505 Games has picked up Payday: The Heist 2 via its website today. It added that the deal allows complete freedom to take the series in whatever direction it chooses.
"Players will be psyched to know that publisher 505 Games have joined the Payday crew!" says the statement. "We know we found the best partner period.
"This new co-operation lets us be Overkill and lets us develop the Payday franchise in new fantastic directions long term. With the support and skill of 505 Games we are going to pull off heists on a scale never seen before!
"In the words of Dallas: Let's do this!"
Platforms for the project are yet to be announced, however it’s worth noting that the original Payday: The Heist was a PC and PS3 exclusive.
Perhaps even more exciting is a rumour that began circulating this morning, which suggests that Overkill are also collaborating with Valve on a prequel to the Left 4 Dead series. The game, if reports are true, will tell the story of how the zombie outbreak originated.
Last month the studio revealed that it is working on an “in-depth collaboration” with Valve involving Payday: The Heist and Left 4 Dead, though no further details were given.
“We are working on a very cool blend of PAYDAY and Left 4 Dead. I am sure it is so exciting that it will have some players check into the hospital before we are done,” said Overkill at the time.
Again, it's worth noting that this is just a rumour. The game has yet to be officially unveiled, nor platforms specified. Left 4 Dead is currently a PC and Xbox 360-exclusive series.
I’m gonna go right ahead and say EFF YES.
