E3 2012: F1 2012 Interview - Driving a Few Laps With Paul Jeal

Before F1 2010 came along and Codemasters Racing resurrected Formula One racing games, it was a neglected sub-genre that had been left in the wilderness for three years. With the success of F1 2010, the studio subsequently built upon that success for F1 2011 and now it's pulling out all the stops for F1 2012.

Having enjoyed a couple of laps around the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas with Game Director Paul Jeal, we stepped outside the LA Convention Center during E3 to talk in more depth about F1 2012 and what the future holds for the franchise, as Codemasters looks ahead with a multi-year deal in place for the FIA Formula One license.

Check out our interview below, and stick around for some outtakes at the end. You can also read our hands-on preview with a live demo video here.

"The cars are the stars this year, they all look great."

Clearly he's not much of a fan!

still struggling to find a decent F1 game after the PC Grand Prix games and the Sony PS1 classics,I thought this series was getting there but so far in massively disappointed , they are currently a mix of arcade and sim , that never really gels

Such a shame these previous games were such crushing disappointments.

#3, #4, I do not understand why you are such disappointed about this game. Sure it can be much better and there is a room for improvement but this is the case with 99% of games out there.
I do not know how you played the game but to appreciate this game you need a steering wheel. It makes the hole experience much much better. I consider it one of the best adaptations for steering wheels (at least the 2011 version).

I do have a steering wheel , I really wanted to like these games as im a F1 fan but there is something massive missing.I can't put my finger on it but it seems to me this game is more style than substance.i think less emphasis needs to put on graphics and more on getting the F1 vibe as this to me feels like DiRT with open wheel cars

I would love to see what Turn 10s physics engine could do, and really can Codemasters not be bothered to secure licensing on "the chain"?
