Street Fighter X Tekken
Street Fighter X Tekken's 12 Extra Fighters Coming at the End of the Month
Written Saturday, July 07, 2012 By Richard Walker
View author's profile

Street Fighter X Tekken's 12 additional fighters were originally scheduled to release as DLC following the release of the PS Vita version this autumn, but it appears that Capcom has decided to push the add-on pack forward, as you'll now be able to download the extra characters at the end of the month.

Adding Blanka, Cody, Dudley, Elena, Guy and Sakura to the Street Fighter side and Alisa Bosconovitch, Bryan Fury, Christie Monteiro, Jack-X, Lars Alexandersson and Lei Wulong to the Tekken side, the pack brings the 38-strong roster up to 50, but at a price.

Releasing on July 31st, you'll be able to purchase the Street Fighter X Tekken character pack for 1600 Microsoft Points. 31st July will also see a new balance patch coming for SFxTK, addressing the following issues and more:

  • Ryu, Ken and Akuma's Tatsumaki Sempuu kyaku have all had their hitboxes reduced in size
  • Rolento's jabs addressed
  • Xiaoyu's crouching hard kick phoenix loops
  • Raven crouching HP loops
  • Auto-block gem has been re-balanced

Still don't have this game, and if I did I wouldn't pay for content on the disc. If I have money, I may pick up the anniversary set for it and SSFIV with all dlc.

I stopped playing this game a while ago. To many issues and it got boring really quick. I'll only consider buying the (on-disc) DLC is the characters are also sold separate. All I want is Cody and Bubba-ray.

@12 To be honest I think we should all just not buy them. I think this was really wrong of them to do. I wouldn't mind waiting for more characters(TT2), but paying $20 for them lol no.
If no one buys them maybe capcom will smarten up. Sadly people probably will buy them.

i am probably going to get those, since i wanted to use alysa from the beginning. capcom doesn´t give a shit if people buy those or not since they´ll make a fortune with RE6 again. if no one buys it its like a coin falling out of their pocket.

if they were released in september like they said i would have passed since TTT2 and DOA would be out.

i might get this i would like to play as lars its is pricey but i think its worth it if u play this game alot if u look at it this way its a great deal MK9 only had 4 DLC characters and if u bought each 1 by there self it would be 400 for each so there is 1600 msp gone right there.

Yes been waiting for this, I hope none of the horrid PS3 bonus characters are included in this (Streetfighter & Tekken characters only please)

And if your bitching about this don't download it then, I think 12 characters for 1600 points is fair.

Just make a street fighter ALPHA 1,2,and 3, remix and give us ALL the characters on release date. Then we all will forgive you for this LOCK ON DISK STUNT you tried to pull.CAPSCAM, I mean CAPCOM.

Overpriced? I understand people are angry about the disc lock, but they are by no means overpriced. Downloadable characters in fighting games (SCIV, SCV, MVC3, MK9) are always $4.99 (400MSP) each. 12 for $20 is way better than 4 for $15 (MK9).

@25 Well there will always be people who complain about the price, but honestly it would be less of an issue if it wasn't on the disc already. And the reason for the bump up is due to lower than expected sales of SFXTKN and the PR fallout over the on disc DLC. Thankfully while they might over charge on DLC for RE6, at least I don't have to worry about any of it already being on the disc.

So over at Kotaku they said that if you own the Vita and PS3 versions you will be able to get the DLC characters for FREE on PS3 (because of transfer from the Vita version).

I don't know what to make of this. Sure, on one-hand that means you need to own two copies of the game, but that's also retarded. If they're going to be free on Vita, it should just be free on everything.

@#26 - Not necessarily true. RE6 has been in development since before they said "we'll stop on-disc DLC maybe", and they may use that as an excuse if it does have some.

Considering we're getting like 4-6 maps or so for Mercenaries on Day 1, and it was announced waaaay in advance, I am positive some of it is on-disc. But we'll see.

@#25 - For the fact they are on the disc, yes they are overpriced. If they were NOT, then it wouldn't be as bad.

It's also overpriced when you consider the fact that Vita gets them for free, and PS3 will apparently get them for free as well if you own the Vita version.

@#18 + #22 - Even worse, BlazBlue sold DLC characters for $7 if I am not mistaken. 3 characters for MORE money than the 12 you get here.

@#19 - Yes, because god forbid there be two characters (Mega Man & Pac Man; the others were all Sony characters) you don't even have to play included .

Horrid? Really? They're just characters, and it is just a fighting game. You don't have to play them. Stop acting like this is some SERIOUS BUSINESS where the game is tainted by the inclusion of those two.

A minor point (or two) worth mentioning:

* The Blazblue CS DLC Characters & Mortal Kombat 9 DLC were actual DLC.

* The Street Fighter X Tekken characters "DLC" is buried on the disc that the customer has already paid for.

So don't come out with PR bullshit about SFXT's on disc "DLC" being greater value for money. For the price of the on disc DLC, you could SF3 Third Strike, Marvel Vs Capcom 2 and/or Super SF2 Turbo HD Remix instead. At least you'll know your actually downloading something.

Jesus - does NO ONE know what the reason is behind the "on disc" content? Everyone complains but it's done so User A (buys the content) can still play against/with User B (doesn't buy the content) without User B having to download an absurd DLC file (as this would be too big as JUST a TU) just to still play with/against each other. As seen many times, the on disc characters often lack some functionality, aren't balanced, or simply lack the final polish. They are added to the disc as a convenience to the user. Now, like Dead Rising 2 extra costums, you'll need to download separate files (even if you don't plan on buying the content) to play with users that do have the content. Simply because people ASSUME they're being nickeled and dimed from THIS when other companies are releasing the same game on a yearly basis for $60 with multiple DLC packs containg content from last years game for about $15 a pop. I often think people bitch when DLC is trying to work for the end user and then accept getting screwed over when it is blatantly part of a rip-off.

And I expect the above to get a lot of thumbs down but HOPEFULLY some of you will actually read it and understand. DLC is a separate budget for developers. You may think you're being "scammed" but 90% of the time you're not. You don't need to buy it. If you own the game you bought it without expecting that content to be part of the release and the reviews are based only on the final product. DLC should simply add value/repeatability to people that enjoy the game and want more. It didn't "need to be part of the game in the first place" and the game should still have the same value it had before if you don't buy it - it's just extra. Would you prefer they re-release it as another game for a full $60? Is that better to you or would you rather just not have the DLC? If not, don't buy it. But complaining over an act it just seems naive unless you know the reasons behind it and the development process. But then if you did, you probably wouldn't complain.

@#34: "As seen many times, the on dice characters often lack some functionality, aren't balanced, or simply lack the final polish". Do you seriously expect me to believe that 108 to 140 kilobytes of memory (the typical file size range for on disc DLC) can make THAT kind of difference? One look at the file size of your old PS2 save files or Microsoft Word files on your office computer will make that argument difficult to believe.

If you know how code works, yes. You should believe that. Just like any rebalancing TU they release. Often times the code is stretched between the TU they release the day before and the DLC (which will often cause the DLC to be relocked if the TU is removed). You don't HAVE to believe it if you want but the assets take the most space. Throwing all them on the disc (models, audio, etc) allows a small code fix through Title Update/DLC to fix any issues with it. I mean come on... Have you played a busted game and then got a TU that fixed it before? Same thing. It's just code. They rebalanced the MvC3 characters a few times this way. Perhaps you should read up on Development before questioning it.

Also, PS2 save file not the same as a TU.

Is that why most (if not all) of the update patches I've received through XBox Live when I put on certain games for the first time in ages tend to exceed 1 or 2 Megabytes?

Is that why there was Youtube footage of the extra characters in SFXT being fully functional in a hacked copy?

Gotta love reading capcom complaints, its always a good read whereas at the end of the day it still comes to the same thing: buy it or dont. its simple.
Either way for 12 characters i will pick it up. and for SSFIV arcade add on was 1200 for like 4 characters so people need to start thinking before bitching

@41 Dear dumb fuck,
the Arcade Edition characters came out a year after the release of SSF4 and weren't even developed before the game came out. It also wasn't even meant to be on consoles but it eventually did make it to consoles in order to please the fans. The price isn't the main problem here.

The thing about these DLC characters as opposed to BlazBlue or Mortal Kombat characters is that these are on the disc. Completely finished. BB and MK had to create completely original characters post release and sell them. Another thing which is more of a personal opinion but BB and MK9 have much more diverse character designs and depth than SFxT characters. Focus on the quality rather than the quantity here.

- Hopefully there's a buy individually option. I don't feel like blowing 20 bucks right before Persona 4: Arena but I wouldn't mind trying out a few characters.

if capcom would have released the characters like MK or BB lets say 400 each and made a complete bundle for 1600MS points, everybody would buy it. whats done is done. the price is no problem, its actually quite cheap for 12 characters.

don´t get me wrong, i too think that what capcom did to their FG community here was lame, since its obvious that the characters should be in the game but were locked shortly before the release, because sony is trying to push their poor vita sales. (Cody/Guy in CG trailer).

@40 So they're fully functional and completely balances? Perhaps you glossed over that point as the MvC3 ones were not. Also, did you miss the point where I called out the code is split between the DLC and TU (most of the time) and it's not large because it is just code? If you want to keep blaming "greedy" Capcom for offering you something you DON'T need, go right ahead. But everyone that does so without any game development knowledge is being arrogant.

I'll pass.

I already don't play the game anymore since a while.

I thought it would be as good as "SSFIV" but it's really far from that.

I would rather buy a "Capcom vs SNK 3" if they don't change the old gameplay, or even a XBLA version of "Capcom vs SNK 2".

@52 It appears the "issue" to most is that the content is on disc. Since people then assume it's complete content on disc and they're paying more to "complete" what they "already own". If it wasn't "on disc" then most people wouldn't be bitching OR yes we would then see more complainants over why EXTRA content costs money and what not even though 12 characters for $20 isn't a lot at all (especially compared to other DLCs) and you don't need any of it to have a complete game with a large enough roster.

it is the price of the on disc content. if it would be for free nobody would complain since they would get what they paid for after all, just a little later thanks to PS Vita.

not going to argue what is right or wrong on SFxT news though.

when will we ever pay for characters that are worth playing? all the dlc characters should have been playable to begin with. why can't capcom break the 50 character limit in their fighting games? oh well, no use complaining as i might get this anyway just to play as bryan & alisa. same goes for the upcoming MvC Origins

Had a feeling they would bring the characters out early due to Tekken Tag 2 coming out before hand. They know by releasing now that they might be able to make some money before, where as if it was after TT2 no one will buy it.
Glad to see most of the people here saying they wont get this rip off DLC due to shitty actions from capcom.
There are always some morons that just got get the whole disc locked content like 41 and actually think its a good thing.
Vote with your wallets people and DONT BUY the dlc, get the patch instead :D
