Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 Has "Evolved Quite a Lot" Says Gearbox

It's been incredibly quiet (read: radio silent) where Gearbox's Inglourious Basterds-style Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 is concerned since the game's original announcement at E3 2011, but Gearbox's Randy Pitchford has assured that the game is still coming and has "evolved quite a lot" since its initial reveal.

"We haven't been talking about [Brothers in Arms] and we won't for some time," Pitchford told Digital Spy. "I wouldn't expect us to be talking about that until either before or after Aliens ships. It's evolved quite a lot, and it's seems like it's going to evolve some more, so we won't be talking about it again until we know what it's evolving into."

It seems that we won't be hearing anything else about Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 and its departure from the series' traditional reverent WWII stories with its more tongue-in-cheek take until 2013 (post-Aliens: Colonial Marines) then. And as Pitchford notes, "it'll seem very different" when we see it next.

"Because when we talk about it again, it'll seem very different, and so we want to see where it gets to, because we're not sure how different it's going to get, but we're having a lot of fun with that. It's exciting to us, but again, it's just too confusing to talk about it," he said.

When I first read about this it sounded like it had a style like the movie "Inglorious Basterds", which of course is awesome.

I hope this game gets cancelled altogether or at the very least re-named, Brothers in arms is about realism and this furious 4 rubbish is far from it, its got nothing to do with the BIA storyline so why even use the BIA name?

Gearbox need to continue Bakers story after Hells Highway, and they need to drop the BIA name from this game.

Nice to know they're still working on this game, as I hadn't heard anything about the game since E3 2011 till now.

@lothra Calm yourself, It's a spin-off. Randy has already said that they'll go back to the traditional BIA after they're done this... Like as if the industry needs more traditional FPS military games right now anyways -_-

@1 well done you just copied the first line of the article.

@3 I agree completely. Even if it is a spin off its only using the name to sell the product which in turn has nothing to do with the main series. For me its just cheapens then series. Much like ridge racer, goldeneye etc.

Borderlands 2 then Aliens: Colonial Marines then Brothers in Arms: Furious 4

Combine 3 games to be awesome from Gearbox!! :)

I hope Aliens and Brothers in Arms turn out great games. Of course Borderlands 2 will be awesome as it is already cos Gearbox mention that biggest improvements over first. :)

When they revealed this last year I was looking forward to it, and I've always kept an eye out for it, but it's a little disappointing to not have any updates on the progress because that's normally a bad sign. From the first time I saw it, it looks like they took Borderlands and moved it to WWII, and made it bloodier. And I'm not saying that's a bad thing

@3 @8

8 nailed it. This way it is more popular with the name Brothers in Arms, and they hope to sell more. Which is stupid cause as you both stated, has nothing to do with the series.

@5 (Strawberry)

I don't think you know the definition of calm. If anything, you need to calm down. Plus you obviously can't comprehend what he means.

Hells Highway was bad enough, the singleplayer in that game was decent enough but the multiplayer was such an embarrassment in comparison to the first 2 games! Now they repay fans by bringing this out i dont understand the logic!

This looks more like an "Inglorious Bastards" spin-off game, more than a Brothers in Arms game, it just seems to be cheating the franchise name for sales. What happened to the seriousness and the realism?

Hells Highway wasn,t a bad game but compared to the first two it seems the kinda rushed it thru looking at the graphics now it looks realy average compared to others, but storywise it was great. Its funny the still call it BIA Furious 4 as i read an article a good month or two age Gearbox dropped the BIA name on Furious 4, now it seems they did not.
But it still can be a fun game if they not only make it look like some points hunting game where one earns points for kills and stuff. I,m pretty sure they still could add a good story in this and make gameplay fun instead of a compete against my friends kinda game. And about Hells Highway MP, it was terrible but thats mainly because it got slammed in almost at the last second and thus not had much of a polish or any other improvements.

Would be cool if they toned down the cartoony presentation and made it a little less over-the-top. I want a shameless Inglourious Basterds rip-off.

@13 really? You're going to be a condescending prick because he doesn't agree with your opinions. Yes he does know what calm means as he is using it the correct way, and as for the whole not being able to comprehend're really going to judge somebody and try to make them seem stupid for their opinion? You just made yourself look stupid.

I agree that this game has nothing to do with the series.... But gearbox is doing what THEY want, they can call it whatever the hell they want. It's just a spin off... Not a sequel or anything that has to do ith the main franchise.

I'm actually quite Excited for this game.

brothers in arms is a WW2 universe that gearbox is creating.its obvious that they feel there are many different stories that can be told within said really looking forward to this only saddend by the fact that im not able to play it this year.

also i dont really think that the BIA name would carry much weight in todays market as just another WW2 shooter.its good that they are changing it up a bit.

First Call Of Juarez, now Brothers In Arms. Sigh. Ubisoft could have been bigger than Activision and EA. Heck, EA even wanted to buy them at one time. Probably not anymore. It all started with that overly westernized Prince Of Persia reboot...

@29 to answer your question without any form of aggression.... I simply saw your comment and perceived it to be quite offensive toward the person you directed it to. I'm simply stating that it is unecessary to belittle others based on their opinion.

Fair enough, but the way you did was completely hypocritical. And the reason I was rude (I admit I was), is because I hate when people say calm down to others when

1. you can't really tell if they are not calm

2. in no way did the guys comment suggest he wasnt calm. That guy also was stating his opinion, so really all we have here is a trend of people saying shit to others over the same thing.

I understand....I get annoyed by that as well.... Ill admit I was being rude to you as well. I should have approached it in a more peaceful manner.

I have been reading the comments in this site for along time and yes, everybody does seem to talk shit about others opinions. Personally, I get rather annoyed by that due to some people's aggression toward it.

Hopefully no harm is done over this. May we act like adults and just move on without having to resort to a childish argument.
