Rockstar has today announced that it has closed down the Vancouver studio behind Bully and Max Payne 3, and will be moving the 35-strong team to a new custom-built facility in Oakville, Ontario over the next six months. This larger, expanded Rockstar Toronto studio will house the Rockstar Vancouver and Rockstar Toronto teams, and is supported by the Ontario government. This will add over 50 new positions to Rockstar's expanded Canadian team.

"Expanding Rockstar Toronto and bringing our Canadian development talent together under one roof underscores our commitment to building world-class teams that can make the kind of groundbreaking entertainment experiences Rockstar Games is known for," said VP of Publishing and Operations for Rockstar Games, Jennifer Kolbe.

"We believe a single Canadian team will make for a powerful creative force on future projects. We plan to add more than 50 new positions to our combined Canadian team, and are pleased to be entering into this strategic partnership with the Ontario government."

Can we have a new Bully game now then, please?

Somehow I don't think many of the people who work there will be super thrilled to move 3300km from here on the beautiful west coast to Oakville.

It's just another sad day for game development in Vancouver =(

@7 The audio was made by R* New York, and I am sure that QA and such was sourced out to various agencies around the world. I'm pretty sure I saw R* North in the credits as well, and more than likely a few other departments were involved, too.

@7: It was delayed from March 2012 to May 2012, and a load of other R* studios had to help to get it finished on time. Look at the wiki page and you'll see most studios credited with 'additional work'.

@#5 - Would they rather move, or be unemployed? Plus, they don't HAVE to relocate.

Good to see our shitty Ontario Gov doing something decent for a change for the "arts", rather than ignore it, and shit on it, unless it's Aboriginal based.

@3: I very much doubt you will ever get close enough to a girl to produce any children.

@11, there are a few dozen developers in the Vancouver area. I'd suspect that at least a few of the Rockstar employees will look into working with Capcom, EA, Ubisoft or others before they move to Toronto.

Partnership with the Government? Guess they didn't read the tale of 38 Studio. Kidding, Rockstar is led by competent people.
